  1. Matt's in the Market - she has to get off the Ave sometime. They have wine by the glass or bottle, great food, funky place. They'll fuss, in an East Coast way over her birthday (as in, give her a bad time, probably no freebies, but you never know.)
  2. Drove by Istanbul Cafe on 45th, East end of Wallingford - not sure if it is open yet. Walked by a sign for 3rd Avenue Bistro - 600 block - feisty part of downtown. Just a leased space. The red space at 1st and Battery is advertising for servers, etc.
  3. I loved the special at Nishino - and some regulars were so jealous of my meal it was funny. Thye ordered many of the same dishes, paid more, and got less! If you've never been here, I'd say take this opportunity.
  4. I'd take Sound View Cafe in the Market over Lowell's - but the food isn't much either. I tried both this past fall, looking for breakfast with a view. The company was more fun at Lowell's. The food at Sound View (not such a hippie place anymore) is quite fresh, just lacking in flavor (how do they do that?) Go down the hillclimb and pick up lunch from The Spanish Table (and visit the spice merchant), or across the street, get a nice lunch from Sestos and walk on down to the waterfront. Coming back up, you can get gelato. Or the Mexican (pig) place on the hillclimb has some view seats. Also the Japanese place on Harbor Steps. Go to Essential in Wallingford and take lunch to Gasworks. Go to Fremont and enjoy the canal. Go to Ballard and eat fish and chips at the locks. Seattle + summer + food = dining outdoors. Invest in a nice picnic set (a basket or backpack with real plates, silverwear, glasses, cloth napkins...) and you'll be a star with your visitors.
  5. I was wondering if anyone had been recently - I was told by some bar mates at Crow (was that you?) that the food there is great.
  6. As spring approaches, and Farmer Markets start their seasonal events, you could select a neighborhood based on the day of the week the market is set up, ie, University on Saturday, Ballard on Sunday, Columbia City on Wednesday...once you know the day, the restaurant and other adventures will pour in. Since the market is year round, you might start with Ballard - don't miss Cafe Besalu for lovely pastry. Dandelion would be a good dinner spot, or Oxaca (did I spell that right?) Not sure who is/isn't open for dinner on Sunday. Lots of other choices as well, and fun little shops.
  7. Vios on Capitol Hill has a low fee for opening wines bought in their shop. Is this an acceptable alternate?
  8. ChefShop's mailing today - PRALUS PYRAMIDE SAMPLER : licky
  9. I think that they are adding an Indian restaurant into the compilation - not sure if the Chinese part stays or not.
  10. I haven't been to any of these, but wonder if anyone has tried this place? Handi
  11. Too bad they aren't in Tacoma - got a permit for 6,000 sf restaurant after a 70 minute meeting!

    Dinner! 2005

Chicken braised with curry, figs, sweet potatoes, winter squash, onions, and tomatoes. From Fig Heaven.
  13. A chocolate dinner is a big player in "Eating Crow" thread
  14. Have no idea what these are like - but Cosi, at the Bon (Macy's) is serving wood fired oven pizza, and The Whiskey Bar now has a tiny pizza stand attached. Guess the law didn't like them serving cheap cocktails and no food!
  15. You bet your sweet a**, you better be! Have a profitable VD.
  16. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the show, but are its ratings as high as your post seems to suggest? ← 5 seasons ain't chopped liver.
  17. Where is it? ← East of Rainier, on Ferdinand - or Edmunds? On another note, Belltown closed - the short lived replacement to the pub, that is. Sign said Business for Sale - sign is already gone.
  18. They have them at the little place behind Sisters and Jasmine in the market - not the piroshki place right out on the street.
  19. Is the place run by the guy who used to make desserts at Tango in Seattle?
  20. Welcome Craig! Wow, quite the move. I was just out looking for a Temperanillo (and I can tell I spelled that incorrectly) from Oregon. Had a glass at Matt's in the Market (Seattle) but didn't catch the name (maybe started with an A?). It was a smooth glass of wine. Have a great time getting to know the PNW, if you aren't already familiar.
  21. And did you have lunch at Market Grill? Someone at the counter mentioned heading here for dinner Friday.
  22. I checked out The Cheese Cellar last week. I have to agree that they are fabulous people and they have great cheese and treats (lots of special Italian things.) I tasted so many different cheeses, without feeling like a freeloader - Dennis just kept sampling out things and chatting. I ended up with 3 - one, a goat (and I think sheep and cow) soft cheese packaged in a little dixie type cup. Two hard cheeses with herbal rinds - one an Irish Gouda "Coolea" that is sharp and great, the other, from Spain, with a buttered rind "Leiyea?" They printed out an information sheet on all three while ringing up my purchases - but of course, I don't have it with me. They also have some tasty cheese from a woman cheesemaker in Montesano...a good story there - I'll let Dennis tell you. Go. Do not let these people fail. Oh, the cheese is priced by the quarter pound, and he has a heavy hand - so when you ask for a quarter pound, you might get (and pay for) 6 or 7 ounces.
  23. I think these are the people who have been selling at Farmer's Markets and local fairs. Swoonful scents, but the lines were always too long to wait for it.
