  1. Would you consider yogurt cheese? It has some tang.
  2. To hijack this thread - anyone been to Made In Kitchen - Asian Bistro - 701 8th (I think). Very attractive, Vietnamese-Thai-Malay food. Like an upscale Malay Satay/Tamarind Tree. They package salt for to go items as the food is not heavily salted. But the Malay eggplant was seriously hot, without added peppers. High quality, good flavors.
  3. Baja Bistro on Beacon Hill will sometimes sell their house made corn tortillas by the dozen. They are very good.
  4. Not Ling, but I think she buys it at Nancy's in the PPM. (That is, the Pike Place Market Creamery)
  5. After looking at half a dozen recipes, I checked on line and found this one: scroll down a bit But as I mentioned, I had no milk and substitued soy milk, and used fresh tangerine juice and tangerine zest. I baked it in 4 individual ramekins - the fluted ones. Other than that, I followed the recipe. Thanks for the reminder, there are left-overs in the fridge.
  6. We really aren't an unfriendly group, but you will find we have written exhaustively on where to go, where to get the best vegetarian meals, including tasting menus, hidden gems...give us something more specific and we'll be more prolific. Try out the 12th Avenue corridor - Lark and Licorous, Osteria La Spiga (watch out - the delicious flatbread is reputed to contain animal fats), Crave (if you stand the attitude), 1200 Bistro (nice, quiet brunch, not sure about dinner) for starters. Some would add Cafe Stellina. I wasn't pleased, but it has creative veg fare.
  7. Mmm, I just made a tangerine pudding cake - and despite substituting soy milk (who has dairy in the house?) it was lovely. No butter, but plenty of sugar. Too bad I can't post a picture. I made it in individual fluted cups, so there is some left...5 minutes to prep, 45 in the oven...
  8. especially the pass area I think they will actually have some kitchen area hidden from view this round. Maybe even dishwashing. BTW, they are predicting re-opening April 13.
  9. You can read about it here. ← The place is hopping. The food was very good, very good, but not as challenging as I was prepped for.
  10. For history's sake - I think the first of these (at least as far as my memory goes) in Seattle was at Fuller's at the Sheraton Hotel. Don't recall which chef started that.
  11. Remember the space that once held Mama's little spin-off? Across the street to the North of the Bon (oops, Macy's) garage. It is being renovated into Entre Nous - French tapas and fondue. Why not just petits plats?
  12. Well, March is the 25 for $25 month. That's get you 3 courses for $25 - a mini-tasting menu. But not necessarily the best the chef has to offer. There's also Bento boxes at Japanese places, or all those side dishes at Korean ones. Another option is to make your own tasting menu - at Union and many other great places, the appetizers and bar menu items are in the $8-12 range and are big enough to be considered tastings for 2, at least. So order 6 and split them. $30 each more or less, plus drinks. You can create your own tasting menu pretty easily this way. We eat this way often when we go out.
  13. THis might be of interest: article I wonder if Andaluca still offers that deal? Brings to mind Qube, though reviews on line haven't been great. Chez Shea - $72 + $30 for wine Union - probably $95 or so? Nishino - oh, omakase, but you might get fois here...
  14. I think Le Gourmand's is $75, no dessert. Rover's $80, $95, and $130 Earth and Ocean - $42 plus $27 for paired wines Cascadia, $50 or $65 plus $40 for paired wines. Little experience...
  15. Thanks for the suggestions. Anything else along the 1-90 corridor would be great - east side of Bellevue?
  16. Union, Tilth, Lark. Any place with a good chef.
  17. THe Chocolate Box is getting ready to open on Pine, next to (and associated with) the Simply Seattle Store. Kind of a Dilettante Cafe, but with Zoka coffee and locally made chocolates (not sure whose or what.) Funny, Dilettante just closed their place around the corner/across the street. sschocolate.com is the site - but if you add an s to the end of chocolate you get an odd Chinese auction site. Anyone want to spend 76 yuen for a pair of shoes?
  18. Any new thoughts on this subject? (I have reasons to be spending some time nearby, including easy movie access!)
  19. Welcome - we love having food people here and encourage shills (don't we?) Even better when you disclose. Now I have a reason to get over to Walla Walla too. Bakery, check, creative food, check, beef cheeks...check. Cannele, really? There has been much discussion on these and I haven't had any..
  20. Tilth's counter also faces the kitchen, but the cooking is a ways back. But you can see Maria plating at least. Didn't Cascadia used to have a table in the kitchen?
  21. Found this old gem from The Weekly: Tacos Patzcuaro truck (8303 Martin Luther King Jr. Way S.) while snacking on pupusas revueltas—Salvadoran corn cakes stuffed with pork, beans, and cheese and topped with a kicky cabbage slaw. Maybe still there?
  22. Really? I'd heard pretty good things about it, but haven't gotten there. ← ← It was almost really bad chinese food. Interesting how much indo-influence there was. Despite the good reviews over the years, when we tried it last year, it was bad. Maybe something had changed. One of only a few truly bad dining experiences I've had in the Seattle area. (Up there with Thanksgiving dinner at Charlie's on Broadway.)
  23. Wouldn't that be nice. Stay away from the Peruvian place in White Center. It was almost funny.
