  1. I dont think they are related at all.
  2. Theres also a good korean restaurant (theres actually two) on Piermont road called Hae Woon Dae that Rachel and I have been to a few times. Oh, my and lest I forget, the AMAZING Umeya, a fantastic Japanese-owned sushi restaurant in Cresskill on Piermont Rd. Pricey but well worth it. And Samdan, a pretty good middle eastern place. Although I think Sapphire in Tenafly is a little better, personally. Can't put my foot on exactly why though.
  3. BTW, both America and Jerry's Osteria in Tenafly would be excellent alternatives, if you have to be in this area. Those two both have liquor licenses as well though.
  4. Well, Pasta Amore is NOT BYO as its in NY and they have a bar. I think Peking Duck House has a liquor license as well, but you should check up on it.
  5. I wasn't aware there was a Peking Duck House in Piermont. There's one in Closter. Its a fairly solid Chinese restaurant but no China 46. I've been to Pasta Amore twice, its not a bad place at all. Fairly standard mid-range Italian place that aspires to be better than your typical Italian-american restaurant.
  6. Saint Martin + Rum competition.... wow that's two of my favorite things in the entire world. Will you be serving Rum Jumbie Ribs as well? Thats the only thing I can think of to improve the situation. Wish I could be there...
  7. Good point.
  8. I think this can be improved with bacon.
  9. What do you guys think of "Texmati" ? Is it a worthy hybrid for use in indian cooking?
  10. Funny you should ask that. Had dinner at Lugers tonight. Phenomenal as usual. I dont think the quality will suffer. "Steak for 2" is a whole porterhouse, whereas "Steak for 1" is a small porterhouse I beleive. As you scale above 2, then they just double the amount of porterhouses, I think. the only cut Lugers has is the porterhouse. that's it.
  11. AH Riise rum can -only- be bought at that store, so dont forget to buy some. Try to get as many French Rhum Agricoles as you can find, because those will be problematic to get in the US as well. Have the guys there seek out the most rare and weird aged rums as they can find for you, otherwise you'll hit yourself on the head if you can't get them when you get home. Hopefully, you won't be going there on a cruise, because you want to be able to go shopping on a day the cruise ships AREN'T in town, i beleive the "bad" day is on a wednesday, where there are up to 5 ships in at a time. St. Thomas gets totally mobbed. I would first hit the local supermarkets BEFORE AH Riise only because their prices will be better, and then for the really unusual stuff go to AH Riise afterwards. At the supermarkets you should be able to find Cruzan Single Barrel Estate and a few other good rums, if you can't get it at home, definitely get some there.
  12. So you've made Pho from scratch then?
  13. I seriously doubt that on a flight back from London the customs are looking for Cuban rum or would even know what it was if they saw it. I brought back several bottles from Canada and from St. Maarten last year and they didn't even bat an eye or open the boxes. Frankly, Customs is more preoccupied with other things these days...
  14. I definitely need to get back there, perhaps a stop off in the spring if we head down to NC, armed with Ellen's latest book.
  15. "Laid back. With my mind on my money and my money on my mind!" Ginger Ale and Grapefruit juice. It's like homemade Fresca. My family hated Fresca. More for me! I love Grapefruit flavored sodas as well. I wish Pellegrino made one like they do Limonata and Aranciata.
  16. its been at least 4 years for me, but yeah, Rachel and I used to go there intermittently when we lived in Cedar Knolls. It -was- a solid sushi restaurant then, but we havent been there since we moved out of the area.
  17. Just remember pho is not just the sum of its parts. This stock is very time intensive to make. Its a royal pain in the ass.
  18. There are plenty of nice ports avaliable for $100, that are drinkable now. I'd never gift someone a bottle of wine unless I ABSOLUTELY knew their taste though.
  19. Damn tony... you must go through Imodium by the gross... that Dende oil is serious GI lubricant
  20. I will also note that as a variation, Blood Oranges and a combination of pink grapefruit and orange make great juice for Gullies.
  21. No point. Just make the homemade stuff. Its easy.
  22. No but I am monitoring my alimentary canal as we speak.
  23. I think at some point, Young Chow became bastarized into "House Special Fried Rice" and then "Ten ingredient Fried Rice" in which they went completely to hell with the rules of fried rice engagement. But yes, Young Chow only has shrimp, peas and ham (and egg) in it.
  24. Well, considering McD's demographics, you would think that would be a bad move.
  25. House special fried rice -- meant to have egg, diced carrot, peas, diced chicken, ham, shrimp and very light or no soy. That is key. You want the flavor of the stuff. That's why they put all the stuff in there. This was, at first glance, too dark I have to categorically disagree with you about the amount of soy used in fried rice. I believe that unless its Young Chow fried rice, which is a very SPECIFIC and delicate rice dish that is supposed to highlight the delicateness of the shrimp, peas and ham in it, and has no soy at all, there should be an ample amount of dark soy used in fried rice, otherwise it it will be too bland. The absolute WORST kind of fried rice is that yellow stuff, with no soy in it at all. Putrid.
