Not enough acid in German wines? Try going to the wineries and tasting the young wines for a couple of days - your teeth literally hurt from being assaulted by all the acid. Some of them are so acidic, its almost like drinking lemon juice.

You just havent had enough of them, Steven... and I think you're making excuses just because you hate the krauts and its fashionable to do so. Sorry, I can read you like a freaking book. You really should go to Gluckstern's next germanic tasting in NYC. You'll taste a LOT of wines from many regions. I think the next time is in October: http://www.winesforfood.com/Taste/taste.asp

Yes. I like the Alsatian Reislings but most of them are a bit to hot (high in alcohol) for my taste. Most good German Reislings are anywhere from 7.5 percent to 10 percent alcohol, where the ones from Alsace can be up to 13.5. To me thats a flaw. In Alsace you just dont get the variation in terroir from Reislings that you do in the various regions of Germany that grow it. Saar-Mosel-Ruuwer stuff TASTES different than Rheinhessen and Rheingau, etc. Austrian Reislings are nice too. HOWEVER, When it comes to Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris, Alsace is where its at.

Stir Crazy is opening a location in April in the Palisades Center mall in Nyack - if you're stuck up that way shopping it may be worth checking out. I reviewed Stir Crazy at the Palisades Mall Here: http://forums.egullet.org/show.php/act/ST/f/4/t/12047

You're right about the wine list at Legal - and they don't price them outrageously either.

Legal Seafood is an exception to the chain rule, in my opinion. If you want really good fried clams, short of going up to New England, thats the only place I'd reccomend. At least in Northern New Jersey.

do you own stock in America? No, I don't, but its a kickass restaurant just the same, which is why I recommend it so often.

I have to admit, whenever I go on vacation to some tropical island, I have to buy some kind of locally made wacky liqueur. Today, because I was bored of watching Aaron Brown and Wolf Blitzer 16 hours a day, I decided to open up two bottles I bought on my last trip to St. Maarten and do some shots. Passoa: This is a really sweet passion fruit liqueur from the island of St. Barthelemy. I like it a lot. Rachel says it tastes like cough syrup. Maybe thats why I like it. Afri-Koko: Chocolate and Coconut combination, brewed by license in Holland by King Opoku-ware II of Ghana. I like it, but next time I'll throw it in some coffee or perhaps in a granita. Definitely a nice alternative to Kahlua if you can find it. My current fave is Rum Jumbie, a rum flavored liqueur from St. Maarten which comes in a not so politically correct bottle. On St. Maarten, theres a barbeque joint right next to the landing strip at the airport that bastes their ribs with this stuff -- I have to try that this summer the next time I grill up some ribs.

Thats a very good analogy Darren, but outside of that worldview, which I think is a legitmate one, I think there is also a difference between meals which are prepared with the intention of being "Vegetarian" as opposed to vegetable dishes. I mean, there are tons of vegetable dishes in chinese (and thai, and indian, and well, lots of cuisines) cooking that are prepared without meat for the express purpose of showcasing the vegetables, not because of some inherent aversion to meat or any other kind of animal protein. They just -are-. But I realize that was only one example.

Hardly an ideal last meal for a Hindu though. Sorry.

America, in Tenafly. Most definitely not loud and probably one of the best upscale restaurants in Bergen County without question.

I like Cel-Ray with pastrami! So there! Cel-Ray is the natural accompaniment to any Jewish deli sandwich. Gotta have it. Necessary belching inducer.
-
The kind I had was totally uncooked... just had cooked (but cooled) rice in it. The veggies and the beef were raw.
-
I've had this as part of a bimbimpap with a spicy dressing, but not served just as raw beef.
-
And of course, you haven't eaten Jersey till you've had an Italian Hot Dog. Or have had the Atomic Dog at Fink's.
-
Fuck. Yet another place I can't eat at because of my allergy.

Actually Spencer, if you'd like to post it, broken up into several posts, feel free.

But they obviously do because otherwise they would ignore it This, in a nutshell, encapsulates your highly distorted sense of self-importance and entitlement on this site, Steve.

Works for me.

NYC's Last Smoke Of notable news, Montecristo Rum will be releasing a White Rum, as well as a premium, 100 percent blue agave Tequila in the near future.

I like the Smint dispenser. I dunno why.

sure they do!!! it occurs to me that if i were looking for women to meet, i certainly wouldn't be looking at the cheesecake factory or chi-chi's. Gee I guess I have to get out more. I didn't seem to have problems getting into TGIs (and similar type places like Houlihans, Steak and Ale, Chilis, etc) when I was working up in Mahwah (read as: chain restaurant hell) this last year, but then again, it was usually during lunchtime. BUSTED! Nick Hey, don't knock it unless you try it. I actually LIKE the Chilis boneless buffalo wings.

I remember there used to be this packing material that was essentially cheesy puffs without the cheese. You'd open up this big box of computer equipment and you'd smell this corn flavor. It was edible, but not particularly tasty.
