  1. Laughing Cow. Its pretty funny imagining a giggling bovine- "Your hands tickle when you milk me!"
  2. Perhaps instead of the raisins w/ rum you could use dried cranberries w/ Grand Marnier, dried cherries w/ Kirsch, dried apples w/ Applejack or even dried pears with Eau-de-Vie de poire?
  3. Ex-boyfriend used to chew tobacco and spit his sludge into his empty soda cans..WELLL his mom decided to take a drink of her sons soda and got herself a mouthful of ICK! God, it was funny.
  4. Got a wild hair up the..! Thanksgiving in summer- Turkey breast, smashed potatoes with chives and thyme, cornbread stuffing, gravy, green salad with blue cheese dressing, buttermilk rolls and scads of wine- husband loves merlot.
  5. Are these what you are looking for? http://www.jlist.com/SEARCH/plastic%20food/1/
  6. How about a laser knife? Of course it would include a feature that would turn the laser off before one 'cut' a finger. -nerd alert- Dinner prep would then resemble a Star Wars movie...the kitchen Jedi!
  7. If you dont mind me saying, get-in-my-belly, you nearly sound like Anthony Bourdain in disguise. Funny, interesting and unusual!
  8. German chocolate cake? Just a thought, but it seems as if most grooms cakes are chocolate. So maybe...?
  9. Edible flowers (torn rose petals, calendula, violets) frozen in a clear lemony-based liquid might be nice.
  10. I nuke a plate of tortilla chips n- cheese and serve with home-made salsa, sour cream and beer. Sometimes, late at night after it has cooled down, Ill throw together a chicken and vegetable pasta salad to serve chilled with wine and fruit the next day.
  11. Ive done a brine for thick cut pork chops that included maple syrup. It also provides a fine pool for my bacon to swim in. Sometimes Santa would include Vermont maple candy in my Christmas stocking- so sweet my teeth hurt thinking about it! Has anyone had maple syrup that was drizzled on snow and allowed to harden a la Grandma Moses paintings?
  12. Im not sure where people get the idea that Kimball is smarmy. I find him down to earth, dry of wit and frugal. I love Cooks Illustrated for its cut and dry style. Thing is, because they tell you exactly what they did to acheive a specific result I can pin point where in the recipe or technique I want to change something to tailor it to my tastes. If I want pretty pictures I buy Waitrose, Saveur or go online.
  13. How lucky you were! I live in a smallish community in Oregon but not small enough for my neighbors and their children to be comfortable with a modest apiary. I would adore 'raising' bees! I was never afraid of them as a child...but I will admit, it is AWFULLY sweet stuff for a lady without a sweet-tooth to speak of. My Mother taught me to use honey as a skin 'refiner' after an herbal (comfrey-rose-mint-lavender) steam. And how wonderful it was to lick the melting honey mask from my lips! BTY- I finished with a whipped egg-white mask and tea..sweetened with honey, of course.
  14. My mother loves lavender! She has made raspberry lemonade scented with lavender (sometimes she used rose petals instead). She also makes lemon sorbet, again, only scented with the lavender. It IS such a strong (and wonderful) herb that often by merely scenting the dish with it, one can taste it. Her mother would wrap lavender wands around bars of bittersweet chocolate tied with twine and give them to me when I would visit. Odd combo to some, but chocolate, lavender and lemons signal summers arrival to me.
  15. Raiders of the Lost Ark- When a captured Marion is finally untied, Belloq offers her potatoes, bread and booze. Pissed off and indignant, she shovels the simple fare into her mouth... she made it look oh-so-good!
  16. Fake potatoes with fake gravy, IMO and Lawrys seasoning salt. Canned peas, ketchup, butter and black pepper. Campbells condensed cream of mushroom soup eaten straight from the can- husband refuses to watch me eat this one. edited to add the ever-important ketchup to peas. wont eat em without it!
  17. Fireweed and orange blossom honey are preferred for drizzling on warm, fluffy biscuits. Alfalfa, clover and Columbia Gorge wildflower honeys for my tea. As a child I loved honeycomb. mmmm, chewy honey-wax!
  18. Raspberries and black pepper Lavender and bittersweet chocolate Sparkling wine and rosemary Not unusual for many, many people but still pretty new to me!
  19. Well done tuna tends to become very, very dry and mealy. Tunas best qualities (in my humble opinion) lie in its beautifully delicate texture, rosy color and clean flavor. You could save time and money purchasing canned tuna instead of overcooking it. But, honestly, if thats the way YOU enjoy cooking and eating the fish, by golly, do it...its YOUR food!
  20. Dill pickle 'juice.' With a spoon. And occasionally I swallow my gum, probably not supposed to do that.
  21. I have always tipped on a meal delivery (think Chinese or pizza) but havent even thought to tip for takeout. Not sure I understand why I should, even with the previous explanations...no table service, no drink refilling, no "Can I get you anything else?" or "Is everything okay?" If I could understand why I should tip, I will consider it, but Im just not seeing it. Sorry.
  22. I wonder who thought that the gelatin from boiled animal cartilage would make a yummy picnic item...just color it green and add pears!! ohmigod.
  23. Indeed. I could never say it better. Too young, he was, dammit!!! Beans, I forgot the "I bid you peace." I...just cant say..how dear, dear that is to remember...thank you...-sob-sniffle- edited to give thanks...
  24. "Earth Muffin?!!" Damn, damn funny!! Oh cheeze, what a giggle-fest!!
  25. I was lucky enough to be whisked away to Timberline Lodge (Oregon) by a very considerate ex for my 21st birthday. I was a budding foodaholic and he was a baker and breakfast chef for a small local restaurant. I had salmon with hollandaise and an artistic swirl of raspberry and a decadant chocolate torte with chantilly cream and more raspberry sauce. White wine from the Umpqua Valley. Afterwards we watched a screening of "The Shining." Appropriate since I was born on October 30th. I awoke the next morning, opened the window to better smell the fresh, cold snow, put my feet up, turned on Ramblin' Rod (cartoon/kids show) and proceeded to make my way through a bottle of Wassons Raspberry wine. This was at about 8:00 a.m!!! Romance, raspberries and good ol' Ramblin' Rod!
