  1. Yeah... Yeah! That's it! I love veg food, but I never feel quite satisfied if I eat a veg place. Ricky Li's... schezuan eggplant. I left feeling very satisfied. Full, even. The now defunct Zephyr Cafe... gazpacho start and tofu wraps with rice noodles (delicious, BTW, generous portions). I was starvin' like marvin when I left. ← Friends: a vegetarian diet NE eating only vegetables. Your meal lacked any protein component (beans, tofu, whatever) so no wonder you felt hungry. Don't blame the concept when the application was lacking.... Milagai ← Um... yeah. I didn't mean to blame the concept. I made a bad entree choice. It won't happen again. I chose what looked tasty... and it was extremely tasty.... it just wasn't very filling. Next time I'll just go for lunch.
  2. BEHOOOOLD!!! Bernaise is the smartest woman ALIVE!!! Damn... that sounds so good. That should be the official snack of PMS.

    Razor Clams

Ohhhhh... oh the drooling. Daniel, that is gorgeous.
  4. I'm so sorry, but I am laughting my ass off. Gorgeous writing. Absolutely Fabulous, even. A certain member of my family went through a similar procedure recently and we tormented her relentlessly... if not for our own fear and discomfort. She's fine, but a medium rare beef roast, mashed yukons, and a healthy dose of brown gravy certainly helped her recovery from the experience.
  5. I'm sorry... I have nothing to offer here. I just looked up asafoetida. They keep calling it the "stink finger". The 13-year-old-boy in me finds that very amusing. Carry on.
  6. Does having a preconceived notion count? I'm country folk, you know. I thought sushi was the grossest thing that I could ever imagine... until I tried it. My (now)husband introduced me and it's been an absolute addiction ever since. I'm going to credit the restaurant (Golden Dragon, Cuyahoga Falls) because, even tho' it was the first, I still think it's the best. I've been around the block since then , but I haven't found anythign that comes close to Chai's amazing creations.

    Dinner! 2005

Oh... baby. You got me. Look at those avocados. That's my last meal, right there.
  9. I love vegetarian dishes and for the most part, I've had good experiences in vegetarian restaurants. No one makes a better cup of gazpacho... around here anyway. The only bad ones would have been bad no matter what they served. I know some people, like my father, who don't feel like they've eaten a complete meal if there isn't any meat in it. That's just how he feels and you can't tell him any different.
  10. Cool, I always contemplated getting these. How do they stand up to the dishwasher and microwave? ← They've done just fine in the top rack of my dishwasher but I haven't tried the microwave yet.
  11. Oh thank goodness. Here's hoping it gets replaced by something revolving around a dysfunctional family with precocious children... preferabely with a stand up comedian in the father role. TV's really lacking that department.

Oh man... that looks soooo good! Great photo!

    Lunch! (2003-2012)

Camel Lights and pretzel sticks. I forgot to pack my lunch and my lunch break errands took longer than expected. Tomorrow will be better. I'm making chicken soup tonight.
  14. The public? Like, the general public? I'm not really sure that they cared in the first place.

    Lunch! (2003-2012)

I ran for the boarder. I had a jones for a Spicy Chicken Soft Taco that I just couldn't ignore. It's going to be a long afternoon.
  16. I don't have a LOT of people that I have to make "yummy gifts" for, so I watch for sales on kitchen towels. I wrap the edible stuff in plastic wrap and then gather the whole thing up in a kitchen towel and secure it with some decorative ribbon, rafia, beads, lace, flowers, sprigs, ornaments, etc. Whatever looks good. That sounds pretty corny when it's written out, but they really do look cute... and who can't use another dish towel?! God help me... Martha has gotten to me. Forget I said that.

    Lunch! (2003-2012)

Crappy chicken wrap from the local delivery place. Stale flour tortilla wrapped around funky fatty chicken chunks, shredded iceburg, shredded provolone, and old tomato chunks. Blegh. I hate semi-rural Ohio at lunch time. This particular place only has one saving grace that keeps me coming back... their house dressing. Pink Italian. This stuff is so good, I could DRINK it... this coming from someone that doesn't really care for a dressed salad. I wish I could duplicate it but I have no idea where to even start. I've begged and pleaded with them to give me the recipe but they're not budging. Stingy bastards.

    Kolaches

I guess we can get bakin' now.

    Kolaches

Mmmmm... kolaches. Around here they're the cream cheese dough, sweet filled variety. Usually with some kind of nut filling, sometimes preserves, and then sprinkled with powdered sugar. You can't escape them at Christmas time and you can't prepare a Christmas cookie tray without them... people will start asking questions.
  20. Sounds like a match made in heaven to me. She's gonna do great there. Hopefully she won't have to field phone calls. I always feel sorry for her when she has to take phone calls. BTW... I can tell I'm getting older now because, in my mind anyway, Food Network has fallen out of my favor in the same way that MTV did about seven years ago. MTV (and now VH1 and my beloved MTV2)... no videos. If I want to see a video, I'd better be awake at 2 am. Food Network... very few quality cooking shows. I can't just tune in and expect that there will be someone/something interesting on (that I haven't already seen 1,000 times). Now I actually have to check the guide to make sure it's not "Unwrapped" or something. Sigh. (Where are thou David Rosengarten?) Anyway, if I want to watch some great cooking I just wait until Saturday morning and veg in front of some good old PBS for about four hours. No flipping needed.
  21. Eh... I'll watch again. It had enough amusing moments to keep me tuned in. It wasn't great but I haven't seen too many great shows lately.
  22. Sorry about le divorce. I know that my husband's ex-wife is using top-shelf baking ingredients and it pisses me off. Ditto on the off-brand butter. I only buy Land-O-Lakes if the store is running a killer deal AND I have a coupon. Now this is gonna sound stupid... I don't know where Northville is... but are you close to any farms that might have chickens? In my experience (at least 'round here), farms that have an "Eggs 4 Sale" sign out front should actually have an "Eggs 4 Free" sign. The folks that I've dealt with would rather make you a deal than waste the eggs. I don't have time to do it every week, but if I'm planning on making something special, I'll make the drive and get some amazing and cheap (free!) farm fresh eggs.
  23. Sweet! Here are my votes... * Lunch at an Amish restaurant - Hey, pick me up some Amish Roll Butter while you're out. I LOVE Amish food. It's like eating at your grandma's house on Sunday, but when ever you want. * Special "Parsi dishes" like Dhansak or Sali Gosht or Machi (Fish) nu Sauce - I'm intrigued... * Breakfast Bonanza - Ohhh yes.
