  1. i think we need to add that emoticon list that katieloeb has to the software.
  2. it doesn't even *have* a nose. true. more exactly it looks like the rest of your face would look like when you're wrinkling your nose.
  3. about what i figured. and welcome!
  4. Of course you didn't, elyse; you're too much of a lady!!! you must not know her well enough. Wink emoticon, herb! don't know that i know you well enough to wink at you either. plus, it doesn't really look like a wink to me. more like wrinkling your nose.
  5. yea, but there's ways of making yourself available without intruding. the thing about checking once, soon after stuff being brought to the table is accurate. afterwards, just constantly be walking around, observant of people trying to flag you down. not hard to stay in a diner's peripheral vision, and to keep them in yours. never had that happen, but that would be annoying.
  6. wow, it's like a good 'ol showdown.
  7. use mapquest to plot it, then get the driving directions. you may be able to take the blue line, then transfer to a bus at frankford station, but it will take too much time. if you're going with friends, turn on the charm and talk one into driving there.
  8. yup, it's a national chain. owned by jack in the box. wonder if they're ever gonna stick one of them here.
  9. as i recall, i do believe qdoba is a chain. haven't looked it up or anything though.
  10. as i recall, they have the same owner. if that's the case, it should definitely be the best combination of the two. i knew it was a mistake for them to open fish and coffee anyway. there wasn't enough business for it, especially not there. i was just wondering when they were going to close it. but with the lease on midori running out (i assume), they were smart enough to realize they can just merge.
  11. as far as needing help finding culinary silk screen makers. i can respect that. i think the place to start would be high end pastry shops. start as high as you can get. torres' place, bayard, etc. ask if they know anyone appropriate. ideally, ask the top guy there personally. nonetheless, there's a way to structure your thoughts such that you can organize your research process.

  13. i do like the concept. their site now says they take reservations for 5-10 people. i suppose just chancing it there would be like chancing it for front room at gramercy tavern in NYC.
  14. yea, well you're just picky b/c you're in the biz. you've corrected enough errors that you notice them much easier than a normal customer. i'm the same way.
  15. yea, well you're just picky b/c you're in the biz. i'm the same way.
  16. i would say that shaken is just seen as cooler. plus patrons wanna see you working that much harder for their money.
  17. the whole bit about kids and IM abbreviations getting into formal papers and stuff is stupid. don't matter about poor typing skills. i type fast, but i make a lot of mistakes. i just go back over them. from what i can understand, it's something like does anyone know anything about silk screens. I am trying to have one made but the man doing it says it needs to be made with a poisonous coating. does anyone know what they are coated with because i need help. first, i would guess that it's probably better to ask a silk screener about this than anyone culinarily oriented, as this board is. therefore, i'd use schools, yellow pages, the internet, personal acquaintances, rather than message boards such as this. they're more likely to know something like that.
  18. yea, always seemed more fun. especially the costumes. seen enough interesting costumes at beaux arts (been to 2). david's party's costumes i would expect more of them to just be entirely jaw-dropping though.
  19. sorta. wouldn't quite say young see and be seen sets. at least not the entire event. ball on square and beaux arts usually set it up with a full dinner, after which the doors are open to everyone. the more wealthy and prestigious will be at the dinner, and the young hipsters come afterwards.
  20. so that's a jewelry store? if it's the place i'm thinking about, there's no sign out front, no visible indication of commerce being conducted inside. happened to look inside randomly one day, noticed some gorgeous interior design showpieces everywhere. it's gotta be the place. hmm, so that's henri david's place. i remember seeing he was a giant purple spider approximately 20 feet high. at the beaux arts, seems to me there's usually about a fifty fifty split between evening wear and costumes. i remember one costume from 2 years ago of a guy in red and black, sorta devil-type costume, with a face reminiscent of fester from addams family.
  21. i understand the sales end of it, them trying to sell more wine. as much as anything it may be second nature to them. i know there were things i automatically thought about doing when i was serving, and even when i they weren't the ones paying me. did you tell them you'd prefer refills to a lower level, or refilling it yourselves, perhaps pulling the waiter aside on your way to the lavatory if necessary?
  22. just saw something about this. evidently, the first US branch of a Hausbrandt cafe is opening in Philadelphia within the next few months.
  23. ok, so elyse compressed a snicker/giggle? didn't know she had such composure.
