  1. My favorite will always be cold silken tofu with soy sauce. So refreshing. About a week ago, I experimented and had ceviche with my tofu. Very yummy.
  2. Man oh man, I never thought I'd see the day Bourdain was stuffed. The amount of food served him in au pied de cochon was obscene! I love this show. I love Bourdain. His is the first tv program I've bothered taping in several years (Not since Mystery Science Theatre 3000)
  3. Low Calorie? Only if you just have some veggies and no dressing. Lunchtime? In a pinch, also I went when they had those punchcards. The bread is terrible - soft and not much flavour. Quiznos is toasted - and tastes better. Subway's toasting just makes the bread less wet. Quiznos is more expensive though. Dinnertime? Er no. I'd like real, soul-satisfying food in the evening. The thing is, even their veggie and meat options taste bland to me.
  4. Good grief! The reciept must be 3 ft. long!

oh Megan, that looks amazing! Your pasta dishes are always so colorful and light looking. ~Radio
  6. Oh man - this is my new favorite thread! I don't know whether to laugh or toss my cookies Bring on the creepy dishes!
  7. Oh! You should make Nanaimo Bars (from Nanaimo, BC, Canada) They are SO good! To Wit: Base 2 squares (oz.) semi-sweet chocolate 2 cups graham cracker crumbs 1 cup coconut 1/2 cup softened butter 1/2 cup chopped walnuts 2 tablespoons sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 egg Filling 1/4 cup butter, softened 3 tablespoons milk 2 tablespoons instant vanilla pudding 2 cups confectioners (powdered) sugar Glaze 4 squares (oz.) semi-sweet chocolate 1 tablespoon butter Procedure: Base Combine ingredients. Press into 9 inch square cake pan. Chill. Filling Combine butter, milk, and custard powder. Blend in confectioner's sugar. Spread over base. Chill at least 15 minutes. Glaze Partially melt chocolate and butter. Remove from heat and stir until melted. Spread over custard layer. Chill. Store in refrigerator, covered, up to 1 month. Makes 24 bars. Serve chilled. They're rich, so small portions may be appropriate
  8. There's a sushi place in Brentwood, CA that has some rolls wrapped in a thin strip of cucumber. Tastes good to me; I'd try these new ones.
  9. I wouldn't eat horse, primarily because I have spent a lot of time around them, and find their smell quite unpleasant. I don't like the idea of eating one. Cow I'll eat. Chicken I'll eat. Non-endangered fish and seafood I'll eat. Cats and dogs, no way. I hate the idea of them being slaughtered. I'm not uncomfortable with the above being slaughtered (minus the horse). Snakes, snakes look like they'd be all reptilian-y tasting too, and that seems pretty ick. My rhyme and reason for all this is purely subjective. But so are my tastes in other foods. To each his own.
  10. Hi GG, I am curious, what with all this talk of the exotic (to n.americans) warthog and eland, etc....What food is exotic to you? Loving the blog - what a lovely place to stay! ~Radio
  11. I loved the Japan episode in Osaka, and man that sushi bar at the end was heaven!... I loved the China episode (couldn't believe he'd never been there!) And I am SOSOSO looking forward to the 'leftovers' special next sunday night. I wish I had TIVO
  12. Excellent! I'm going to print out the new info for her now. Thank you!
  13. Thanks! I'll mention that to her. You'd think it wouldn't be hard to find japanese cooking lessons in Van, I'm quite surprised.
  14. Wheat Thins crackers. Barely a day goes by without me having consumed some. (love salt!) The last few months, I really got into buying 'Cheerios' cereal bars. I'm not as enamoured right now - I think I finally made myself sick of them. Popcorn is almost always a 'go'. Luckily (?) for me, I'll go through a phase of being particularly into a food, then I'll get bored of/inured to it, and move on. So it's rarely a permanent state of addiction, thank goodness. One summer I blew my tofu fetish into the stratosphere. Last summer it was edamame beans. And believe me, they aren't always so healthy. lol. I've yet to become sick of Wheat Thins though......
  15. Henry - you rock. And your home is most impressive. Hooray for creative living!
  16. Wow. I am envious of your frequent dinners with neighbours. Cool stuff. I look forward to following your blog along, your writing is crisp and eloquent - a pleasure.
  17. Next month (April) my parents move to Vancouver. My dad has lived there previously, and they have visited enough to be familiar with the area. They're moving to an area near Stanley park, but whatever is in the city will be fine. My stepmother is a very good cook - and she is eager to take some Japanese cooking lessons in Van when she arrives. Does anyone here have ideas as to a good cooking school that she might attend? Thanks, Radio
  18. The guy in my life likes: cheeseburgers onion rings chicken tika masala chocolate milk breakfast sausages rice/tapioca pudding coconut cake I like: medium rare steak sauteed onions beef sashimi and all things japanese wheat thins crackers *edited for spelling.
  19. No sir, not wrong t'all. I think KFC coleslaw is the bee's knees - I wonder if yours is as garlicky as the kind they serve in American locations. I have gone there often solely to buy it. Yum

    Kraft Dinner

LOVE the kraft dinner. (Yes I'm Canadian). It was the first thing I learned to make, aside from pancakes. About ten years ago I tried making it with no milk - just boil the noodles, drain 99.9% of the water then pour in the cheese powder and stir. Since then, that's always how I make it. I'd probably do a jazzier version if I ever served it to company though.

    Salty Snacks

I am addicted to 'wheat thins' crackers. Oh man, soooo salty and soothing. Try regular or the honey variety. The reduced fat ones are great too - I actually prefer them to regular. Yes, I'm a salt addict.
  22. No offense here but that was pretty much what Mom served you after a day at school ... nothing real arousing actually ... Comfort food doesn't make you sensual and ready for ... it should be erotic ... and ... stir the inner passions and heat ... ← Maybe douse'em in liquor and light them on fire? I dunno, the rain made me think more 'cuddle up in a blanket and have something warm'.
  23. What about comfort food? Maybe some mini grilled cheese sandwiches with a nice hot tomato soup. Works for cuddling up in the rain, I thiink Warm, gooey and soothing.
  24. Just wanted to mention, I went to "Langers" about a month ago and had some very good cabbage rolls!
