Kim, just thinking last nite that I'd been missing your posts! So glad to hear you're recovering well; hope this doesn't interfere with Thanksgiving or Christmas! I know Christmas is a big deal for you, please take it easy on yourself and let Mr. Kim and Jessica help!
-
Kim, all best wishes for a speedy and full recovery! Bright thoughts to you!

Ohhh, cottage pie en croute! Yum!

I would attribute the better browning on loaf #2 to the added sweetener, though.
-
Erm, they CAN be bought on Ebay, etc. %)

The grains came preblended. The leftover was good next day, reheated and eaten with milk and brown sugar.May I ask where you purchased them, and what the brand name is?
-
Please, tell me you molded those in the walnut shells!
-
Dejah, did the "Ancient Grains" come preblended, or did you do them freehand? I only cook for one normally, but that sounds so good, I'd like to make it for a group I cook for occasionally!
-
Thank all y'all! I needed a good laugh today!
-
Yes! Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes! And a whole lot more common than you think!

Elizabeth, the cheesecake is gorgeous, but other than the tangerine section and the strawberry slice, I don't recognize anything in it, except cream cheese. Is that a mango fruit topping? What type of seasoning is in the cheese? Inquiring minds and all that!
-
Liuzhou, how was the corn cooked, and what was it coated with? Looks great!
-
Olmoelisa, is that the zest from 1 lb. of oranges, or 1 lb. of the zest peeled from G-d knows how many oranges? (We have hot summers here in south Florida, too!)

Fruit flies: Where do they come from and how do you get rid of them?
judiu replied to a topic in Kitchen Consumer
K, at about 1/8 inch, if you have typical widow screens, I'd say yes. They're even drawn to the overripe cherries in my fridge! -
Guess I'll have to keep a closer eye on them!

Goozing is my new favourite word even if I think grilled cheese sandwiches are highly overrated! Goozing is my new favourite word even if I think grilled cheese sandwiches are highly overrated! Goozing: how I've been needing this word! Thanks! Anna N, I too thought grilled cheese sandwiches were highly overrated, before I started messing with the ingredients. Now I've made a convert of my husband. Perhaps you're next? One of the best apps I've had in a long while was a tomato fondue served with grilled cheddar brioche (bite-sized for dipping). I haven't tried to recreate it yet...any suggestions for making tomato fondue? Thank you all for the appreciation of my made-up "goozey". I love that word! Teapot, was the fondue creamy or soupy? If it's creamy you're looking for, use tomato sauce and cream cheese and "stuff" to season to taste.

Comet cleanser now has a non-scratch formula, similar to Bartender's Friend and Bon Ami, but with bleach. Might help...

Lisa, the problem with Tuesday Morning is price. They're consistently higher than TJ Maxx & the like; service is also lousy at my local TM. Marshall's is a decent alternative, as are Bell's Outlet stores. The retail stores are no bargains, but the outlets are great! Don't forget the Sally and other thrift stores!

Porthos, I personally prefer nutmeg to cinnamon, but YMMV. You could also add whole spices to the tea while brewing, for the flavour. Have you considered macerating the dried fruit in wine, or apple juice (or other fruit juice) or booze, and cutting back marginally on the actual tea? HTH!

Sorry, Bloody Awful is a New York version of a Virgin Mary. Heh! Onion rye bread, decent Swiss cheese, good ripe tomato slices and precooked bacon, cooked to almost crispness. Butter on the outside, mayo on the inside is optional. Cook slowly over low-ish heat until browned and bacon is crispier. If you're lucky, the cheese will melt and hit the pan, so you'll get the crunch of that, too! (You can always press this down to encourage "goozing").

DH needs a good talking to, I think. Not liking fruit cake? What's wrong with the man?? Must be something in his raisin'. Maybe he was swept up in a currant as a child. Now he just can't see the appeel. Sorry; I'll stop now ... Fruit cake + cheese is a long-established tradition in Yorkshire and probably other parts of the UK. There's a particular very soggy, tea-flavoured cake called Yorkshire Brack that's eaten with Wensleydale cheese. Cracking, Gromit. And as James Herriott pointed out, the traditional drink to wash this down is good whisk(e)y... Who knew?

Holy, uh, merde! They must LOVE you over there!

My 43 year old sson is pretty much the same way. He'll eat almost anything when he's hungry, likes good food, but has no intrest in making it for himself or others.

Yeah, pork country ribs, good sauerkraut, onions, apples and caraway seeds. Country ribs, baked (roasted) with apricot-mustard glaze and mashed potatoes, sausage and mashed potatoes and applesauce. Roast leg of critter with mashed rutabaga and broccoli with a bit of garlic, roast chicken and dressing with creamed onions and corn off the cob. Oh, hell now I'm hungry!
