    Dinner! 2013 (Part 2)

Gfweb, what are the browned nuggets in with the sprouts, please?

    Dinner! 2013 (Part 2)

Kim, I too love the onion loaf that Bobby Rubino's serves, but these onions are prepared just like yours, but cut into "strings" , rather than rings, just floured and deepfried, not battered like an onion loaf would be. They come out dry, almost greaseless, crisp and airy, hence the "cloud".

    Dinner! 2013 (Part 2)

Kim, there is an easy recipe for fondant potatoes in the yellow Gourmet cook book (as opposed to the green one and the original old one). Those onions, down here in South Florida, are known as "onion shreds" or an "onion cloud". They're great! Ususally, the secret to Mac and Cheese is not only more cheese, but different cheese (usually use Swiss, with holes, as opposed to the American Swiss, which can be best described with a pithy four letter explative, IMHO) and Coleman's Dry Mustard (just a little) for a bit of bite that just sneaks in.

    Breakfast! 2013

Lemon stilton? Does it actually taste lemony, or is it just a color thing ?

    Dinner! 2013 (Part 2)

My 43ish son, a graduate eater, with a PhD in Brussel sprouts, would kill for that meal, preferably with mashed potatos and gravy...!
  6. I'm not fer sure that it handles the entire globe, but DHL does a lot of business shipping stuff from S. Florida to the Carribean. Personal stuff, like clothing to Haiti. Don't see why kitchen stuff would be different, just a little more awkward!

    Some Garlic Questions

Jarred, peeled garlic? Why bother! I was making ribs and kraut, which calls for a LOT of pressed garlic (I was cooking for a crowd), used about10 cloves and it barely even tasted of anything. (GRUMP) (/GRUMP)
  8. The Penzy 's salt free Caravan of Flavor is great. That's not quite the right name, but I'm not at home to check... It's a citrus and herb blend, that goes great on tuna salad, smoked fish, broccoli or anything that you'd use lemon on.
  9. I don 't have my bottle handy, but if you have access to a Publix, their own brand of soy sauce is excellent, doesn't taste too salty, but adds a huge umami hit.
  10. Beneath my dignity? No way; I have a tiny kitchen and a dining table not fit to roll or knead on, and also a large streak of lazy! Home made style bread in under an hour? Bet your butt I'll try it!
  11. Sylvia, maybe some Aquavit, or Kummel ( non-sweet) ?
  12. Have you tried Clamato (tomato with clam juice) or Beefamato (tomato with beef bouillon)?

    Caviar for newbies

In an omelette, with cream fresh, sour cream or cream cheese. Top deviled eggs with a bit, add chives.
  14. Patrick, is the Thai mortar and pestle shown in the photo as your avatar? Beautiful colour!

    Dinner! 2013 (Part 1)

Have you thought of using the disposable pan as a liner for the stoneware one? Just a thought...

    Superbowl – 2013

4 Can Bean Salad. It's 1 can each of garbanzos, blackeyed peas, canallini beans and petite diced tomatoes. Drain beans, rinse well, shake off excess water, combine with tomatoes in a large bowl. Reserve most of the tomato juice, use the remainder in with the tomatoes & beans. Add a large red onion, chopped fairly fine, and one head of 'celery hearts' (generally sold in 2 packs) ditto. Season to taste with salt, moisten with Newman's own dressing (original flavour, or olive oil Italian) and leftover tomato juice. Season with plenty of thyme, a bit of basil, oregeno if desired and pepper. Can garnish with roasted peppers. Add a can of corn to mix , if desired, and black beans, too. Chill for several hours, covered, stir, add more Ital. dressing if desired and bring to cool room temp before serving. ETA: black beans.
  17. Re the paper, maybe coffee filter paper would work? Just an idea...
  18. Let's see: raw bell peppers, melon of all types - they repeat on me. Canned veggies, except tomatoes and corn. Cooked carrots, cooked spinach, collards and mustard greens. Beets. Anise seed. that's all I can think of now!

    Dinner! 2012

I was gonna say Japanese red maple, but now I'm not sure... Any inherent flavour or odor?
  20. Busboy, you have my deepest sympathies. My husband passed away in 1995, and I still have not gotten used to cooking for one. I either eat junk, or just one item, meat or veg. Weird, huh?
  21. Rotuts, is it the cream cheese or the celery you object to? If is only the cream cheese, try pimento cheese, instead!

    Adios Twinkie

Jane, Butterscotch Krimpets are a Tasty Kake product, IIRC. Several other companies make the fried pies besides Hostess, Krispy Kreme among them.
  23. Bread: fresh, stale, day old? You say 'broken into pieces' so I assume stale? Thanks for the recipe!
  24. Jerry, that PROVES that at least the sales staff and managers the company hires have a sense of humour, otherwise they would have chucked you out!
  25. David, how about cranberry ice, or a cranberry - (other fruit) combination? I personally love cran-raspberry or cran-grape 'cocktails'. I love the idea of the creamed green bean casserole, creamed onions were always a favorite of mine ! What kind of 'something more' do you have in mind to go with the pie ? ETA green beans and pie.
