Here he is in all his glory. You have to make allowances for a nearly full grown poodle puppy full of the joys of spring running through a meadow and me getting a very lucky shot with my new camera! ← AHA! What a wonderful picture it is, too!

I'm not sure how I would feel eating around this if it radiates a lot of eat. It maybe fun to look at but sitting around this if it's a hot day, winding, the food burns a little and smokes... Seems to be just one big cooking surface to show off cooking skills to guests... is that really enjoyable? ← Yeah, it would seem to (ducks and runs)

I'm sorry, but you CANNOT tell me that beast in your avatar photo is a POODLE! I thought it was some kind of bear with VERY strange ears. I KNOW a poodle can't hold its' ears up like that; neither can a daschund; no cartilage in the ear itself to keep it erect. So, what's the secret?

Where, oh where, did you get that blue spatter ware plate-dish-bowl-whatever? It's TOO beautiful!

I don't care what the "real" name is; in my book they're just called "YUMMY"!

David, is that a teeny tiny squid tucked into that mussle shell, or a standard sized on in a really HUGE mussle?

Fifi and her beloved garlic-bashing "mushroom"! RIP, and a sweet trip to the Summerlands for you!

Mike, have you ever tried the powdered buttermilk supermarkets sometimes sell on the baking aisle? Just mix up as much or as little as you need. I used to use KLIM for milk when cooking, but it's SO rich (like 26% butterfat or some such) that now I'll just go get a pint of milk or half-and-half. (KLIM is powdered whole milk, sold in cans.)

My Mother, who is now 83, would be someone who would have put canned, diced pineapple in coleslaw. I don't know if she got the inspiration (if that is what you would call it), from Beard. I love pineapple in cole slaw; for me good cole slaw is creamy and a little sweet; dear Mr. Beard considered adding pinapple to be "an abomination". And, by me, NO onions in it either! -
Bruce, my sympathy to you and your family for your loss. I know how important our fur families can be!

Thank you so much for killing my Saturday afternoon plans with 5 pages of great reading! I do hope that your story of another guy from PNW is about James Beard; he's one of my culinary heros, even though he and I disagree about pineapple in cole slaw. Great blog, thank you! -
I have to assume you live in West Texas, New Mexico or Arizona and have access to good tortillas!

Oddly enough, when my doctor found out that I was using liquorice pastiles to soothe a cough brought on by a combination of meds, she gave me hell because "Liquorice will rasie your blood pressure!" Who knew?

Not even a smidge of bacon drippings on the kitty food?

And on the side, deviled eggs. Marcia. ←

In the carnival/non-perfomer circus atmosphere, the johnnie-come-latelys are usually treated to requests for a "bucket of steam" (to degrease the ride) a left handed monkey wrench, a canvas stretcher or a bale of cotton for the cotton candy machine...

Sugar snap peas (from the same source as my haricots vert), bacon and sauteed onions. OH MY GAWD; too yummy! (Holy s*&t! We've got spell check!)

I, also, read that book as a child, and was totally fascinated by the look into another culture. I still remember it to this day, but couldn't recall the author's name. Thank you! I'll now have to check out our local library's juvenile section and see if they have the book; I want to read it again! I also just ordered the Molly O'Neill book from Amazon as a Mother's Day present to myself.

I purchased a timer with a probe thermometer, count down and up feature, and a very audible beep for under $20.00 at Target, of all places! It even came with an extra battery. I love the darn thing and even use it when I have a load of laundry in our communal washer and dryer here at my condo. It ain't elegant, but for the price, who cares? (It, by the way, is going on three years old, and so far, I haven't used the second battery.)

And where, pray tell, did you find those candies?

I suggest the name "Shooting Star" for the starfruit and the sparkle in the soda water!

I cut my baby teeth on Milk Bone dog biscuits; the dog stole my Zwieback, I stole his Milk Bones!

Lovely, just lovely! Is your polydactyl cat a male? Both of mine were; one was a tan-ish tabby and the other, his son, was pure white, with gold eyes. Thanks for a great blog! -
Kent, your text says baking powder, but your picture shows baking soda. Which is correct?
