  1. Kent, your text says baking powder, but your picture shows baking soda. Which is correct?
  2. Un-be-freakin-lievable! THANK YOU!!!!!!
  3. hmm...I think the message he was sending was that he was uncomfortable with that level of formality (he's only 2 years older). I'd heard about the turning to the side / covering your mouth thing before too, but I thought that was a more extreme level of politeness (older relatives / significant other's parents / etc.). and I think the finger/face comment was a reference to your avatar... ← It was indeed a reference to your avatar and certainly no offense was ment! Sorry if my wise ass typing fingers said something rude..

Thanks for the link; now to find my conversion tables to fix the metric stuff... BEAUTIFUL breadstuff!
  5. It was a one-eyed, one-armed flying purple people eater I thought it was a One Eyed One Horned Flying Purple People Eater ? Now: remember this? "Raspberries, Strawberries, the good wine we brew; Here's to the girls of the countryside..." Same guys did: "Scotch and soda, Jigger of gin; oh, what a spell you've got me in..."
  6. 3 is from The Tallahatchee Bridge Song (aka Billy Joe McAllister Jumped Off the Tallahatchee Bridge) by (erm, I've had too much Jim Beam tonite) 4 is Norwegian Wood by the Beatles, featuring Ringo Starr(Richard Starkey) (does that make up for my other memory lapse?) And I THINK that 2 is from Strawberry Wine, a first hit by a country singer whose name is not in the memory bank at present. (see # 3) Editied to add 2.
  7. Peter, thank you so, SO much for a wonderful trip with your great family! I only hope "the vermin" bite you!

Oh, recipe, PLEASE! I have a whole club full of people just waiting for that cake...!
  10. When I can, I prefer to use a knife and fork to peel my shrimp because I hate it when my fingers smell like shrimp!! The only problem is that I suck at peeling my shrimp with my knife and fork, so I usually just use my hands. My mother can do it really well, though, but that's because she was taught to do so. ← Yeah, but at an all you can stuff in shrimp boil picnic? Dayum!
  11. Dont forget Katz's. When I was in Charlotte last year, I was told they were an authentic Jewish Deli. It was pretty good. Where I live now, there is NOTHING in the way of Deli. If I want it, I make it myself. I'm currently in S. Florida visiting family and I'm in Deli heaven. This morning, I visited the Sage( an appetizer shop) and brought in a bagels, and smoked salmon. Yummy. Oh, I also had a very fresh Black and White. ← If you're around Broward County (Ft. Lauderdale area) pm me and I'll tell you about a GREAT joint!
  12. I once told a dear friend that a "friend" of hers was a pretentious b*&^%h because at a picnic we were attending, she peeled a shrimp with a knife and fork. Sure enough, a few weeks later the "friend " decided to sue my pal over a totally bulls**t circumstance. Just shows to go ya!
  13. THAT is why you keep a wooden spoon close to you at all times while cooking: SMACK! GET OUTTA MY KITCHEN!
  14. Not to blow my own horn , but I do a "Main Dish Pasta Salad" that tends to dissapear very quickly, and it makes a TON! 1 pound of Barilla Gemilli cooked by the directions A couple of medium sized red onions, halved longways, then cut into thin strips, to mimic the size and shape of the pasta Two celery hearts, cut as above (or you can slice them in a food processor, or on a mandoline, but I like the long thin sticks) About 12 oz. of decent Provolone Cheese, slices about 1/4" thick, cut into matchsticks Same of decent Salami Marinated button mushrooms, drained (optional) Marinated artichoke hearts (ditto) Roasted red peppers (ditto) ETC. Dress with Hellman's Mayo, or homemade, then thin a bit with Newman's Own Original Salad Dressing or Newman's Italian. Remember, the pasta will soak up a lot of dressing as it cools. Chill overnight for the flavors to blend and serve cool or at room temp. HTH!

Ran into some (free) beautiful haricot verts tonight ( a freind's sister works for a veggie wholesaler, and if he doesn't like the look of a case of veggies, out it goes, and we benefit!) sauteed a chopped onion, a ham patty, chopped fine and the blanched beans. Good stuff!

  24. It was Astro, and he could talk.
  25. Actually, that "Green Dessert" isn't too bad, in a "lowest common denominator" kinda way. It's also known as Watergate Salad, and it really is pretty decent, if extremely sweet...
