  1. I totally agree with Ghostrider. P&O is so overated, yet they just keep packing them in. It's just what "middle america" eats these days..mediocre food..and lots of it! I dined at Corrado's a few years back and enjoyed it. As I remember it, the fish dishes were superb. Daruma is also very good for sushi, but a bit on the pricy side for NJ. They even charge for green tea!

  3. I've been invited out to dine at Chegdu46...yes Chegdu46 not China46. I don't feel it would be appropriate, at this time, to try to change the venue. So, help me here.. Are there any dishes you would recommend?
  4. Would try it, but that's exactly my thoughts..
  5. I just opened a jar of Whole Foods natural chunky peanut butter... Oh my gawd!!!!!!!
  6. Glad to hear it reopened. Sorry to hear it's not in Nutley. I would be nice to run over for takeout like I used to do. Can't wait to enjoy the yummy spring rolls and duck salad.
  7. Well, my cousin caught that intestinal virus. Good thing I premade the crabcakes. At least we had NY Eve dinner.. and had to do the cooking again today for all, and with instructions from cook123, I prepared a Prime Rib for the first time. Came out perfect! Whew!
  8. You just reminded me of their excellent Low fat and regular Guacamole..
  9. Hanging out with my cousins in Hoboken. They requested that I make the crabcakes I did for Xmas Eve, and I'm also making Mussels with Shallots and Thyme. We'll probably go out for drinks, afterwards, and then come back to celebrate the new year. Happy New Year to all!!
  10. For everyday Extra Virgin Olive Oil the "365 Brand" at Whole Foods is great.
  11. Crabmeat and Avocado Salad at the 340 Club in Hoboken.
  12. Christmas Eve was at my house. Just couldn't do seven fishes with the three of us. We started the evening with Honeydew Bellinis made with Mionetto Prosecco...munched on marinated mussel bruschettas. Next up was Salad of broiled scallops on mixed greens, with toasted almonds, and radishes with a lime/ walnut oil vinagrette. 2002 Greco du Tufo Pinot Grigio. Spaghetti Alio e olio with Anchovies and frissled capers. 2000 Villa Puccini Red. Crabcakes with Tomatillo Salsa . Frei Brothers Reserve 2002 Chardonnay. Dessert was a recipe from MaryAnn Esposito's book. Semifreddo with Crocannte di San Giuliano ..served with a Tomasello Winery Vidal Blanc. Christmas was at chef 123's home. Pomegranete Martinis with harvest foccaccia Shrimp Bisque A scrumptuous Prime Rib with Fingerling Potatoe Gratin, and Minted Fresh Peas. He opened a special bottle of wine that was in his wine Cellar. Can't remember the name but it was from Paso Robles. Dessert was Cornmeal Scones topped with Lime Cream and Berries, and a Sauternes. No need to ever dine out.. ;-) Hope everyone dined as well.. A joyeous Holiday to all!!
  13. Is that in a good neighborhood? If my memory serves me, that area is pretty seedy.
  14. Haven't been to River Kwai. What dishes would you recommend there? ← For appetizers I would definitely recommend the steamed mussels in chili-lemongrass broth, barbecued crispy duck salad and any of the soups. They also have this new very unique appetizer they call "Angel Wings", which is a molded chicken drumstick that has a batter that tastes very much like McDonald's chicken McNugget batter(!) and it is stuffed with bean thread noodles, ground chicken, and various other veggies. It is served with two different kinds of sweet and/or spicy sauces. Very unique dish to say the least. For entrees I would recommend the crispy duck with green curry, Pad Prik King, Thai omelete and one of my favorites, if they have it - Turnip Cake Pad Thai. Also, alot of their dishes feature asparagus, and one of the best that features it is Pad Nam Mun Hoy - stir fried choice of meat with asparagus, mushrooms and scallions in oyster sauce. Their desserts are also very good, but it requires much willpower to resist heading next door to the Applegate Farms ice cream shop. ← Where in Passaic is El Chevere? What would you reccommend?
  15. We enjoyed one purchased at Williams Sonoma. It had a slight sugar and nut topping that was a nice addition.
  16. An excellent Creme Brulee can also be had at Latour in Ridgewood.
  17. Thanks, I'll definitely be picking up those gloves (and checking out my Middle Eastern grocers). ← FYI I purchased skinned hazelnuts at Whole Foods, this past weekend.
  18. Oh....I've added another dessert: Roasted Pears with Hazelnut Syrup with Candied Hazelnuts.
  19. The honey and Lavender roasted shallots sound devine. Would you e-mail me the recipe?
  20. Your 3 onion tart reminded me of last year's leek, prosciutto and gryuere tart made with puff pastry. It was yummy. Is this the first time for the cranberry sauce with Port? I've made that too, and it was enjoyable.
  21. I thought it would be enjoyable to read what everyone is serving on thanksgiving.. What's on your Thanksgiving Day menu? Here's ours: Breakfast: Cranberry Scones Noontime : Harvest Focaccia ( made with Grapes, Walnuts and Thyme), Champagne Dinner: Salad of Greens with Roasted Pears, Dried Cranberries, and Walnuts Roast Turkey with Herb Rub and Shitake Mushroom Gravy Triple Cranberry Sauce Mashed White Potatoes Sweet Potatoes baked with Brown Sugar & Jack Daniel's Syrup Braised Fennel with Chestnuts Sauteed Brussel Sprouts Broccoli Grandma's Old Fashioned Stuffing Fresh fruit and nuts Dessert: Cranberry and Apple Pie Pumpkin Cheesecake
  22. I know I've said it before, but AF has the best Pumpkin ice cream, too!!!!!!!! Hmmmmmmmm. Think I need to make a stop on my way to Whole Foods...
  23. I went to the one located on 41st Street, off 5th. They were to die for. ..Not too sweet, just right. Light and crispy...not soggy at all. You must try these!
  24. I appreciate the thought. I'll do that.. as for the problem of scaling it down...Just give it to my brother, the chef, who has done it many times.
  25. Had an enjoyable stay at the Alladin over the Columbus day weekend. Each morning we ate at the Notre Cafe in the Paris Hotel..Cafe Americano and a pastry. Yum. We decided to skip lunches...to save room for our dinners: Thursday Bellagio Buffet. Great Buffet. Great Desserts, Nightscotsman. Will you part with the recipe for the chocolate roll? Friday _ Had made reservations at Bradley Ogden, but I honestly couldn't find anything on the menu that I was really in the mood for...so rather than spend a fortune on a dinner I was less than enthused over, we opted for Mesa Grill, and were very happy. ...Cactus Pear Margaritas, cormeal breaded Oysters topped with Caviar, and the Signature dish of chile rubbed Pork Tenderlion. Our waiter was great and made it a memorable meal. We had just enough time to get over to the Celine Dion Show...which was Great! Saturday Lotus of Siam- My friend was not adventurous at all, and was not happy that it was a little more upscale looking.... We did order the Sour Sausage for our appetizer and the crispy Shrimp. Both were excellent, in my book. She wanted the Pad Thai, and said she's had better. The wine our waiter selected was perfect, and he also brought over a sampling of a dessert wine , which went nicely with the wonderful sticky rice with mango. Sunday evening we stayed at our hotel and dined at Crustacean. Another great restaurant! We shared an appetizer of Summer Rolls, and both chose the Vietnamese White Clams with Vermecelli and Thai Basil. I've never seen clams that white!!! Accompanying it were several Bruscetta to dip in the sumptuous broth. For dessert we ordered the coconut flan, and this is must if you dine there. It was more like a creme Brulee topped with crispy coconut shreds. WOW! They also had a nice selection of wines by the glass, and we ended the meal with a nice glass of tawny port. I would say we ate well... ...as for gambling...that's another story. :-)
