Sogno is one of those places I've been meaning to try. Now, I'll have to put it on my list.

Curlz, Where did you finally wind up dining?
-
Please note: The Farmer's Market is not in Rutherford on Thursdays. I was just there and was so disappointed that I couldn't pick up some of that corn ya'll are talkin about.

My vote is for Juanito's. It's not your regular Mexican. It's a BYOB, too! They do virgin Margarita's...you provide the liquor. Another fav is a Thai place, the name of which I can't remember. It's across from the Galleria Bldg. It's also excellent. You could also do a casual place like Basil T's ...a brew pub.

Curlz, My dining habits have changed in the last few years and I don't get out quite as much. Having returned to the single life, it's not in me to "dine out" alone. Maybe that should be another thread... Do any of you go out to dinner alone? Also are there any singles dining clubs in the Bergen / Passaic area?

Curlz, Be sure to ask about the varieties, and definitely take some white peaches. I had those last week and they were real good, too.
-
I made lots of fresh Pesto, this afternoon, with the beautiful bunches of basil bought at the Montclair Market. Will freeze some so I can enjoy it all winter, long.

Curlz, Which peaches did you buy? I picked the yellow peaches that they called "the soft variety", that were on the outside table with the plums. They were on the opposite side all the way at the end. The ones next to them were referred to as "the hard variety". Were those the variety you chose? I just ate one of my peaches and it was great.

Curlz, Did you buy peaches from the stand that had the santa rosa plums? If you did, you're in for a treat. They were the best peaches I've had yet! (Both yellow and white) I went back for more yesterday.

Rosie, I was there several years ago, when it first opened. It's one of the nice places I've forgotten about. As I remember it, it was a very small restaurant. The pasta dishes were excellent, and the fish entrees were perfectly prepared. Hmm...think I should make a trip over the Union Ave Bridge and enjoy this place once again. Oh...and it's a BYOB !!!

Stay away from this place. Since the new owners took over about two years ago, it has taken at turn for the worse. Last summer, I made two visits to purchase fish, and walked out, emptyhanded, both times. The sight and smell of old fish was not appealing.

My favorite Ciao Bella is the Raspberry Cabernet. It's not too sweet, with a nice cabernet finish.

Went to the Farmer's Market on Walnut Street yesterday. While I was there, I purchased a Peach Crumb Pie. What a disappointment!!! The filling was tasteless, and worse yet the crust was undercooked. The bottom was soggy and the under the crumbs was a glue like mess. I wasn't sure which stand had the best fruit/ produce. Which is your tried and true favorite?

Even Mazur's uses stabilizers in their Whipped Cream. The only Bakery that doesn't that I know of, is Delicious Orchards in Colts Neck. It is just pure whipped cream. Hmmmmmmm...Think I need to take a trip...

Mazurs isn't all that good anymore. Lyndhurst pastry shop is better. My favorite was D'Anna's in Garfield / Lodi, but they have started adding something besides Ricotta and sugar to their cannoli's. They were terrible. It's a shame when a shop starts to skimp. My neighbor raves about a place in Bloomfield. Haven't tried it yet..I'll post the name later.

MsSumida, That's sounds similar to a roasted eggplant soup that I found in Gourmet mag, years ago. Your version sounds yummy!!!

A Gazpacho....

I seem to remember a really good Chinese Restaurant on RT 35 in Middletown. They had a fish tank in the front , where you could pick out your fresh fish. It was on the north side of the road. Anyone remember the name?

I saw a comment on the NJ.com food forumt hat The Petite Cafe is up for sale. Is this true? or just a nasty rumor?
-
It's a small store on the left side of Ridge Road, going towards Kearny, severla blocks past Mazur's.

Ghostrider, What's for favorite Pizza place? Don't keep it a secret! As mentioned on another thread, mine is Jo jo's in Lyndhurst for Regular pizza. It's not Brick Oven, but it's really good.

I totally agree with JB_973's assessment of pizza from Star Tavern. I just never quite understood all the rave reviews. There is a place on Ridge Road in Lyndhurst, or N Arlington that does a great pie, and, if I recall correctly, even does slices. I think the name is Joe's. I'll find out and confirm, later. When I first walked in there, the smell wafting in reminded me of pizza that my family used to get at a "Bar /Pizzaria" back in the day, on Hyland Blvd in Staten Island. Now, that was THE BEST! ohhhhhh the memories...lol Unfortunately, a chain Drug Store is now standing in it's place.
