  1. Polish people eat duck's blood soup with prunes in it. I believe my mother called it charnina.

    Salt (merged topics)

I bought a cinnamon sugar stainless shaker at IKEA for about 3 bucks that is the perfect shaker for kosher salt.
  3. Stanley tools make a yellow plastic handle with an inch wide rubber strap at one end that you can pull tight around any size screw cap on any jar and using the handle for leverage it opens anything easily. I bought a large and a small one for $8.95 at Fry's electronics. Amazingly handy in the workshop also.
  4. For all egulleteers, Specs on Smith Street also has a helluva deli, produce and cheese and exotic groceries selection. Great sandwiches and pates as well.
  5. Let us know if the redneck BLT is a hit. My grandson and I love them
  6. BLT bologna, fried thick slice about 1/2 inch thick, lettuce, tomato and mayo on sourdough toast. A sophisticated redneck.
  7. Fifi, what is the "favorite asian market" in the Bay area, Houston? Hong Kong on Scarsdale or something closer
  8. If you're near a Schaller and Weber a one inch thick slice of leberkaser, pan fried in butter until crisped would be great with pancakes.

    bone-in rib eye

I use a cast iron pan, old and black, cover the bottom of the pan with kosher salt and on high heat wait for the salt to begin to brown. Put the dry steak on the salt without any oil or anything and sear, turn and enjoy. It doesn't turn out salty at all
  10. Do you have Hong Kong Markets like we have in the Houston area? If you do, go to them first for produce of all kinds. No self respecting oriental would ever purchase anything but the freshest and ripest greengoods and fruits. After HK Market go to Fiesta then CM.
  11. I'll be there the beginning of November. I believe the Air Force Academy is there so there should be some places for parents to take their budding birdmen and birdgirls, but are there any seriously good restaurants? I'm going with the CFO and he's buying, I hope.
  12. Gilhooley's in San Leon makes a cold rare or a warm rare or a hot rare burger for all of us true carnivores who want hamburgers that can be healed with a few band aids.
  13. I started at lunch today at the Burger House on the Gulf Freeway. Don't see it making Walsh's list anytime soon. Adrian's here I come.
  14. Khan's is king. Better than K&Z's, just don't go to Katz's, it's not a real deli at all even though it claims to be one. Take the word of a NYC kid. The only other deli close to NYC delis, Gugenheim's, closed a few years ago.
  15. providing a dining experience that exhausts all the human senses. His food styling is modern and very creative and he joins a group of young chefs that are pushing the envolope of gastronomy. Please!
  16. It sounds pretentious and I'd bet against it flying in Houston

    Houston Visit

I heartily second TopWater Grill in San Leon. Also Cafe Piquet(sp) for cuban specialties.Houston places to eat
  18. Be aware Indika's has a new owner chef and it is just not the same.
  19. The ones sold by Sam's Club are big a juicy and well seasoned. They are under 5 bucks and very good. They're great for chiken salad etc as well
  20. Had the new menu last night, the only new things prettymuch are the prices, all up at least a buck, a $20.99 flounder, wooden chairs and tablecloths on the porch. As much as I love the food, eating there at least weekly, I think I smell the upsccale syndrome
  21. Topwater grill for sure and for some very good food in an atmosphere that being in Houston will surprise you The Rainbow Lodge(think hunting lodge in the mountains).
