    Easter Brunch

Boneless rolled leg of lamb stufffed with asparagus, onions and eggplant that have been roasted. The lamb is then marinated in plain yogurt after being studded with qarlic. Finally I grill it over and open fire and serve rare with small red roasted tomatos and basmatic rice drizzled with butter and red sea salt.
  2. I have asked until I'm blue(green?) in the face with no luck and my spanish is pretty good for a gringo
  3. When we lived in Mexico City we could drive to Toluca, 40kms to the west and buy bright green sausage at just about every market stall and from homes along the way. When I say green I mean emerald. About the size of BBQ sausage here in houston and fresh not smoked or dried. I've made Diane Kennedy's green sausage and it's nothing like what I'm looking for. Anybody got a source in Texas?

    Texas Fast Food

Yes the faves are still here. AAMOF if it's fast food Texas has it and especially Houston. I'm not a native so I don't do Fast Food, but most Texans, especially Houstonians seem to live it their cars(Suburbans) and survive on fast food. Not sure about Primos, but Ninfa's went toes up in debt and was taken over. Ninfa, mama that is, died a while back.
  5. Good mayonaise laden cole slaw dumped right on top of the chili and slightly stirred in with corn bread out of and iron skillet. Pure heaven with a Shiner Bock on the side. OMG!
  6. Cherry limeade and a foot long chili cheese dog with raw onions at the Sonic drive in. Absolute heaven and absolutely a pepto bismo moment
  7. Kyocera ceramics. Once you use them you'll never want a metal knife again. Expensive, fragile, but absolutely intoxicating in their ease of use.
  8. The one they opened on Bellaire in Houston had bedlam but they opened one on Wayside in the barrio and practically no one showed up. There is never a wait. I don't think Mexican-Americans dig Guatemalan pollo.
  9. It was in a late spring early summer edition last year. They had several states best fish shacks. BTW Topwater has oysters at 25 cents apiece during the season on Mondays and specials like Rockefeller and garlic and butter and bienville. My wife and I hit it 4 Mondays in a row. Love the bait shrimp.
  10. Mandola's Blue Oyster Bar on The Gulf Freeway is closed permanently. Don't try it. Go for a ride down to San Leon and The Topwater Grill. They were written up in Southern Living as one of the best fish shacks in the South.
  11. Polish/Chinese Signature dishes pierogi potstickers and stirfried kielbasa
  12. Lime salted potato chips into melted strawberry ice cream
  13. Dip them in A1 sauce for an ethereal experience
  14. Wreckers is owned by the same guy who owns Heartbreakers in Dickinson. Neighbors complain about the noise but the sheriff's department seems to ignore the complaints. Seems they are laying off Wreckers.
  15. Heh... I haven't confirmed this yet, but a San Leon resident tells me that Wrecker's is owned by none other than Mr. Kemah chain restaurant himself... Fertitta! All of the locals complain about the prices. Hey... It's San Leon. ←
  16. When I lived in Mexico City all my Mexican coworkers called Corona pepe de raton, rat's piss!
  17. Beef bourginon on french bread with dijon mustard and a glass of red wine is an indulgence not to be missed. Sometimes I add some leftover buttered noodles.
  18. If any of you live in the Houston area Spec's on Smith Street has a pretty respectable assorment of European butters as well as a few "style" ones made in the US that are really very good.
  19. The fantastic French Fries with homemade mayo at Cafe Montrose. The best in Texas or for that matter the Planet
  20. I saw an clip from an interview with the owner, Joe Mannke, who said he was hanging up the whites sometime after Mother's Day. It may have been the writer's imagination but he qouted Mannke.
  21. Having lived in Mexico City for several years to be Mexico City style they would have to serve Swiss Food, Sushi or Polish food. Mexico City or DF, as it is known to the locals, has fewer real Up Scale Mexican Restaurants than any other city. It's all the fashion not to eat Nexican food.
  22. DiBella's is just like Northern New Jersey mafia hangouts. Good food, good red gravy (sauce) and no credit cards. Remember to bring cash or your checkbook.
  23. Perhaps the best pizza in Dallas was picked the same way Texas Monthly's resaurant critic picks the best resaurants. By reading press releases from the restaurants.
  24. Get the bait shrimp appetizer at Topwater grill. Order it first because you probably will be too full for an entre after you eat it. I get all popcorn shrimp no buffalo style because the seasoning takes over the shrimp. Topwater is a place to go dressed as grungy as you want and look out onto the bay and the shrimp boats. It's in a marina at April Fool's point in San Leon at the end of 9th street.
  25. If you can't get Bootsie Landrys corn meal just throw some regular corn meal in a blender a whirl away. I make mine into a virtual powder before I cover the catfish. It works superbly
