a version of the one shown here is what i use. mine has a suction cup on the base so i can tuck it away when i'm done but i think there are versions that clamp onto the countertop.split the coconut, hold a half to the serrated blades and twirl your way to lovely grated coconut.stop when you get to the brown bit.really easy and if you want a creamier texture toss the feathery shavings in the blender.

yup-surely inspired by those very films-channel v and mtv india. their 'fillers' were the best thing on tv! now someone needs to confirm if these are the ones i'm looking for- ``Modhalla sambhar...aparama nee,'' the legendary Quick Gun Murugan yes mind it

I can remember a bottle of olive oil in my parent's medicine cabinet back in the '40s and '50s. Nobody in suburbia used it for cooking back then. It was either Crisco or Wesson Oil. We've come a long way, folks! Jim i'm guessing there are enough people out there who do not use olive oil in cooking on a regular basis( and also might not fancy smelling like the makings of bruschetta when they do use olive oil for topical application or whatever)to make it worthwhile for drug companies to package what i think may be something close to deodorised oil.that's pretty much what we found way back when!

for many years, the only place to buy olive oil(in small cans or tiny bottles)in india was at the chemists!used primarily for skin and hair care but also as the token dose of healty fat by those following the latest fads.frightfully expensive too.it's changed now of course-most well stocked department stores carry some kind of olive oil !

this sounds interesting Spiceroute!is there a 'Bhima' angle to the film too,as the cook? i've heard about telugu 'westerns'(from the 70's i think)that are based on hollwood fare-hero walks into a saloon, orders a glass of milk, bad guys laugh, fight ensues -do any names come to mind?a friend used to keep us in splits with his versions of these and i'm really keen to see one.reminds me of 'strawberry kannaanadhu' prabhu deva!

never had a problem myself but if it's important enough to warrant a proverb of its own,hmm..ok let me guess- maybe it applies to lentils with the skins on? the lentils we use today are faster cooking strains? b.c.-before (pressure) cookers? i read in some places that the addition of turmeric apart from improving digestibility, actually speeds up cooking guess you could always do a controlled experiment!
