chicken rings scare me. it's just not right
  2. i just got off the phone with an evan at trattoria fresco. i asked him if there had been a change in management. i figured maybe that's why things have gone down hill. he put me on hold, then came back and said the owners have been there since january. i then proceeded to say i have to be honest with you, we have been to your restaurant a 1/2 a dozen times in the past, always pleased with service and food. but this past friday we were there and the service was god awful and the food just so-so. i then expected him to ask me what my experience was like. instead he said the next time i made a reservation to make it with him. so i said ok and he muttered he was sorry and that was that. kind of turned me off even more. he wasn't at all interested in what went wrong. felt like he didn't even want to hear what the problem was. maybe i should have said it anyway.
  3. had my first disappointing experience on friday night. waitress disappeared for most of the night. wait for the food was painfully slow. the place filled up by the time we were done with out apps, which made me think they would actually be rushing us since people were waiting in the lobby. no such luck. i finally had the short ribs, huge disappointment. lacked the wonderful flavor they usually have. maybe it was an off night.
  4. john mazur sold the bakery so i'm not sure how the cakes are now. gencarelli's in bloomfield is good. you said around nutley, don't go to vitiello's, their cake is crap.
  5. do you eat just the cheese off your pizza eat the middle of the danish and leave the cake pick the crumbs off a crumbcake eat the crunchie topping off the casserole and leave the inside eat around the veggies in your soup eat just the flower part of the broccoli and leave the stems take apart a sandwich, inspect it, then pull out what you don't like i live for picking the crumbs off the crumbcake. the cake is such a waste i don't know why they bother with it. just sell the crumbs. share your habits... what do you pick off, move to the side, or discard?
  6. porcini is awsome! they have a broccoli rabe and bean soup that is incredable.
  7. i would inject peanutbutter into my veins if it was possible. whole grain bread toasted smooth skippy or if i have it smooth natural peanutbutter grandma's home made raspberry jelly another slice of toasted whole grain bread.
  8. this takes a little time but comes out nice in the end. a friend of mine makes her own baileys irish cream. then she puts it in a nice bottle and ties the recipe on with ribbon. if the hosts drink baileys it's a nice gift. then after dinner everyone can have some.
  9. sandra lee and her fantastic makes me crazy! everything is fantastic. paula deen stuffing her face with what she just made and trying to talk at the same time. and ina's annoying laugh
  10. pinkpau welcome:) in the winter i have hot oat bran cereal, it's like oatmeal. or farina on the weekends. and in the summer i have cheerios or kix. sometimes i splurge and have whole wheat pancakes with blueberries or bananas and walnuts. or an omlet. i love breakfast and am hoping to have all my friends over for a big sunday breakfast in the near future.
  11. rosie, what is frico? you said it was on the complimentary appetizer. i never heard of it. thanks
  12. people are talking about fink's bbq restaurant in this topic, i just wanted to say that they are closing as a restaurant and remaining open as catering only.
  13. thanks for including me but i have a concert that night. would have loved to go and meet everyone. perhaps the next get together.
  14. -sometimes restaurants drop a glob of butter on top of meat to make it look glossy... then all you taste is the butter. -cold bread
  15. chicken marinated in balsamic, olive oil, s&p then grilled. romaine lettuce, red onion, red pepper, pepperjack cheese, and spanish olives chopped up real good. cut the chicken in bite sized pieces and mix it in with the salad, veggies, cheese, & olives. dress with ken's greek salad dressing.
  16. the pizza is awsome. perhaps antipasto and pizza as an appetizer.
  17. maybe she didn't know what you ment by hoagie... if you had said sub she might have gotten the idea... i'm just teasing you. people from different parts of jersey say it differently.
  18. it's on valley road, byo. interested to hear details from anyone who has had dinner there. thanks
  19. i ate outside on friday for my birthday. had the chicken, it was great. served in the 3 part dish, nice touch. the french fries were baked and really crispy, not oily. boyfriend had the shortribs, i tasted them they were really good. had the pizza with eggplant, fresh mozz & roasted red peppers as an appetizer that was good also. had no room for the zeppolies unfortunately. next time no pizza and maybe i will have room.

    Chicken salad

i like chicken salad with a little mayo & honey mustard, just enough to coat. then crushed pineapple, onion celery, & a little red cabbage for color. you can sub the pineapple for apples or grapes also.
  21. we went maybe 2 months ago. i forget what we had but i remember it being good. it was a friday night and it was very crowded.
  22. that's funny that you said you ate the chocolate with the spoon. i looked around at one point to make sure no one was looking and i spooned some chocolate out. way too good to leave. i definitely want to try the zeppole next time
  23. potato salad - i do with fried pancetta and onions, evoo, lemon juice, fresh parsley, coarse salt & fresh pepper. pasta salad - i like with veggies, pepperoni and an oil and vinegar base, no mayo
  24. i went the other night and enjoyed it also. we had the salad with the grapefruit that was good, and also the shrimp & asparagus you had. i was going to get the ribs, next time. i had the hanger steak and that was great. someone had the lasagna and i agree with you it was delicious. you have to get the fondue, out of this world. i will definitely go back. i understand they have a courtyard with outdoor seating. we sat inside because it was warm out but next time i'd like to sit outside.
