  3. want to venture into bergen county for dinner on friday. looking for a good byo restaurant. anyone have any ideas? thanks.
  4. Went to Salt of the Earth in nutley as we did last year... last year it was great. This year it was a disaster. 6 of us ordered filet mignon. We were told that they were out and were substituting ny strip. Ok fine but we paid for filet mignon, there should have been an adjustment on the price. The waiter then came back and told us they were short one steak so my husband ordered zuppa de pece. 4 of us ordered the pumpkin raviolis for an appetizer. Instead of 4 plates we got 2 plates with double orders and were told to share. Also the raviolis were spinach ravs with pumpkin filling, never saw that before. We had to flag down the waiter for more bread and refills on soda twice. The restaurant was only ½ full, if that. My husband finally got up to say something to a woman in charge and explained all of the above. She replied with but I don’t understand. As he was speaking to her our dinners finally arrived. My sister and I got the chicken and it really didn’t like it, tasted like rubber, the steaks were ok, zuppa de pece awful. My husband asked for the check and we looked at it to see if the tip was already included. We noticed the we were charged $72 for the pumpkin raviolis. The menu stated that for an appetizer portion the price was $9. we told that to the waiter and he said well that’s what it came up as. We then asked for him to get the menu so we can show him and to speak to the manager. He said the mgr was not in and my husband told him to call him on his cell since the whole dining experience was a disaster. He left then came back and said, I quote, “oh sorry that was my f up.” He said the whole word though. Since when is it ok to speak to customers in that manor? So very disappointed in this restaurant and will never go back. I am calling them tonight to speak to the mgr.

    FASCINO

had dinner at fascino last week. shared parpadelle with braised beef and crumbled gorgonzola, very good and just enough portion wise. could have been a little hotter. in fact the entrees could have been hotter also. he had rack of lamb with bulger pilaf and fava beans. our server was quick to point out that instead of fava he would be getting haricort verts. no big deal but it was nice of him to tell us that. i had osso bucco over mashed sweet potatoes and spinach. both entrees were very good. for dessert he had chocolate mousse and i had the chocolate moulten cake. excellent on both. only thing was our server did not pour our wine for us and he didn't ask us how everything was. usually after the first bite or two i like to be asked in case i need anything or anything needs to be sent back. in this case everything was ok but it would have been nice to be asked. he did ask us when we were finish how everything was and we said great. i called and asked for a table instead of a booth and anthony did indeed have a table waiting for us. all in all it was a nice meal.
  14. my friend just had gastric bypass surgery but has not changed her eating habits. she still eats carbs and cheese and sweets, just less of them. we were at a wedding this past weekend, beautiful place with a killer coctail hour.... sushi, pasta stations, carving stations, huge italian meats and cheese platters, dumplings, you name it they had it. she flags down the waitress holding a tray of something and asked where the pigs in a blanket are. enough said

  18. i agree with rich... suck it up and try the savoy
  19. at stretches curlz. tommy you have never been to the belmont? it's quite different from what you are used to i'm sure!! fascino is right, waitresses are nasty, throw the food at you, set the table with mismatched plates dating back to 1977, and you can cut the smoke with a knife. sometimes you don't even get a menu they just ask you what you want.
  20. also the cavatelli with pot cheese.
  21. village gourmet right on park ave is great. they serve lunch and dinner and have a variety of sandwiches, soup, chicken, fish, beef, and pasta. there are also several pizza and chineese places on park ave, names escape me at the moment. paisanos's or trattoria corrado for italian and mignon for steak, all on park ave.
  22. anyone been to the park steakhouse in park ridge? we have a wedding in park ridge and are thinking of going there the night after for dinner. thanks
  23. on core the list for dairy includes all fat free things. my question is why not low fat versions? i have looked for fat free and sometimes can't find. i guess if i substitute say a piece of low fat for fat free cheese i will just have to watch the scale. there is really very little difference in the fat grams, 3 grams for low fat vs 0 for fat free. that's not a whole heck of a lot, but i guess in the long run it might add up.
