    Favorite condiment

i like the hotsauce with lime in it. i think it's franks
  3. she says fantastic too much
  4. ok jook is congee, now someone tell me what congee is. i live in nj we eat eggs and pancakes for breakfast! anything fancier has to be explained:)
  5. ok now you have to explain what jook is
  6. i like pancakes. recently i got into the whole wheat & buckwheat ones. what does everyone else like? and if you don't eat typical breakfast food for breakfast, please share what you do eat.
  7. seinfield: when kramer feeds chile to the horse that pulls the carriage, the jr. mints, the pez dispenser at the concert, the hostess crumbcake george ate, the food george was eating during sex, the big salad elaine eats.
  8. ok, ok i guess i'm just weird!! the yellow color just doesn't do it for me. i think i have issues with eggs in things, like bagels and egg drop soup. i can't even talk about egg drop soup without shivering.
  9. i can't deal with egg bagels. the bright yellow color look very un natural for a bagel. egg is something you put on top of a bagel, not in it. any others have thoughts?

    stew

well it was boiling i saw bubbles. maybe that was why. it was boiling very lightly. actually the recipe called for oven or stovetop but i never did stew in the oven so i did it on top.

    stew

i made a great stew but the bottom burned and it had a faint taste of burnt meat. i kept it real low on a simmer. what could i have done? stirred it more?
  12. rosie i know you said the yogurt dip was not appropriate for an italian restaurant, but boy oh boy was it good!! i even asked for seconds. we were 5 people when we went and they sat us at a table for 6 right in the hallway when you walk in. it was a little loud and the phone kept ringing and that really was annoying. they must have had the ringer on high so they could hear it. the artichoke salad was great.
  13. looks soo nice and peaceful. where is the b&b? do egullet members get a discount?:) good luck.
  14. i've read how people have mixed reviews on nola's. i went there in july and let me just say it was the best meal i ever had! you must go there. the bread basket has a bunch of different kinds of bread, sweet potato roll, onion foccacia, rosemary twists. in fact we had a waiter just to explain the different kinds of bread. had a perfect apple martini. my boyfriend had the duck and it was the best i have ever tasted, i can't say enough about this dish. in fact another poster said he liked it too. i had the pork chop and that was great as well. definitely make reservations and definitely go with an appetite! we had no room for dessert and i think if we had it we would have felt too stuffed and would not have enjoyed it as much. have fun:)
  15. phaelon56 i went with soup today, a safe shoice! funny thing is i like those dried cranberries in my salad but the raisins are a negative.
  16. i for one love the pickle & cole slaw that you get with a sandwich. however, a girlfriend of mine who used to work at a diner, said to NEVER eat them. i didn't ask for the details but i got the feeling it wasn't pretty. sometimes i take her advice, sometimes i throw caution to the wind. i think it depends on what the pickle looks like. if it's nice and green and crisp, i will eat it. if it's limp and doesn't look fresh then i pass. you can't go wrong with diner coleslaw so i always eat that. your thoughts?
  17. phaelon56 i am so freaked out by you saying you put raisins in your salad that i can't possible eat the salad i brought for lunch now!!
  18. there is also a place on main street in little falls, close to the loews in wayne. again, i apologize, i forget the name. they have a wide variety of flavored coffees and desserts. also in freehold on main street is the cornerstone cafe. they serve lunch & dinner but also have coffee and desserts.
  19. i forgot to say that my grandmother used to put them in meatballs. where she got that idea from i will never know.
  20. oh how i despise these shriveled up grapes. they pop up in everything. bran flakes are fine by themselves, why bother putting in raisins? and those yummy breakfast buns from the bakery... with the icing on top, they look so delicious, so tempting. you bite into one and all of a sudden you feel a wrinkly little varmint swimming around in your mouth. there's no need for it i tell you!!! today is the worst, st patrick's day. that fluffy warm soda bread. looks so good until you realize something's amiss. that perfect crust browned to perfection has little bumps all over it. you move in for a closer look and (gasp!) it's the raisins, they have invaded that luscious irish soda bread! i must admit that i cut off an end, it was still warm. i picked out every one of those buggers and ate a full square inch of the bread. anyway i just felt compelled to write and share my hatred of raisins. please feel free to share your thoughts on them.
  21. am i the only person that likes them fresh? i remember christmas peeps one year that tastes like sugar cookies
  22. yes that's it, cafe tartufo.
  23. there is a place on franklin ave in nutley called st honore cafe. very nice and great desserts & coffee. only problem is that they have iron chairs with no cushions and after 10 minutes your butt starts to hurt. might put a damper on the evening if you plan to relax and chat a while. there is also one on broad street in bloomfield and the name escapes me at the moment. it's right near holsteens, the home made ice cream place. they have tables and chairs and also a few couches. they make a great torte della nonna and have gellato in many different flavors.
