Hey, that's my cannoli lady! I love Madonia's cannolis. (Dean - you may wish to move the last image up to the Babbo section of the photos).

If someone's willing to drive.... I will take that as a hint in our direction. We'll arrange for a caravan of cars to pick people up from the ferry or something, but not for a couple weeks I think.

Jinmyo - were you thinking in Canadian or US dollars?

May I make a suggestion? I know there must be a very good and probably socially and politically correct reason for spelling Hawaii, Hawai'i. However, we try not to use unusual spellings or accent marks on eGullet. This is not because of disrespect for any culture or language, but for the sake of search engines. eGullet's search engine doesn't work with apostrophes, and Google's misses words with accent marks. There is a fuller explanation from Fat Guy, in the Accent Marks thread. The jist of it being that if someone searches Google or eGullet using Hawaii in the parameters, these threads will probably not come up in the results.

In Bergenfield? Hmm... I only did get a little piece of Peking Duck yesterday...

I too hope Herb was lying. How late would he have had to arrive to not look behind a wall? Elyse - Of course Dumpling can pick up her starter at my house. Except I wasn't sure if we'd be going to Bloomfield this week. When is the last week? I hope you made arrangements with Blondie to bring down the pie & PdQ, because we're leaving on our drive on Monday the 6th and stopping at various places before going to Raleigh on Thursday. I don't think the pie would last nearly a week in our car (it's not the heat, it's the Perlows). Jane - thanks ever so for planning, we had a great time. Better even than at the New Years Dinner there ages ago, more funner table. Varmint & Jason - HAPPY BIRTHDAYS!

I thought it was in the just right to perhaps too many nuts range. 5 out of 6 adults at the table liked that the nuts were large and whole (and roasted before incorporation?). My mom expressed a preference for chopped nuts. Not that she didn't finish her piece.

Thanks for a great Q&A!
Rachel Perlow posted a topic in eGullet Q&A Andrew Dornenburg and Karen Page
On behalf of eGullet management and membership, I want to thank Andrew Dornenburg and Karen Page for doing a terrific job on this Q&A. They will be awarding two copies of their latest book when it is released in October. Winners will be notified by PM. -
Darn, you brought me some starter and we both forgot about it when I was there on Thursday? The Pecan Pie was a big hit tonight. My brother, a self proclaimed pecan pie connoisseur, was skeptical when I said you make the best pecan pie in the world. He took a bite. "Yeah, this is pretty good." Another bite, "you know how pecan pie should kind of melt in your mouth? This just dissolves!" Another bite, "the whipped cream is a distraction" as he scrapes it off the pie onto the side of the plate. "You know, this is really good pecan pie!" My ultra-picky nephew and his unpicky sister ate most of the crust and the goopy part -- I guess they're not into nuts yet. Even my perennially on a diet sister in law ate most of her piece. You done good, kid!

Yes. And, although the food is good, I find it overpriced and crowded. The crowdedness more annoying than the priciness.

You beet former loathers should read Varmint's latest missive.

eGullet NJ Pig-BBQ & Potluck, Sunday, 9/21/03
Rachel Perlow replied to a topic in New Jersey: Dining
Is the chipotle a dried form of the chile, or can you use a spoonful of chipotle in adobo, a jar of which I usually have in the fridge. Please post recipes in RecipeGullet, include that it was made for the potluck in the notes section. Like I did, here, for the Banana Pudding. -
Mongolia. Seriously. Freddy v. Jason.

Part VI Part VI Part VI Part VI Part VI Part VI? -
We told them to update their answering machine's outgoing message. Jay, why do you post pics without comment on the food? Neither of the soups we had today were as good as the Tom Kha Gai we had last week. We also preferred the Tomato Dip from Saturday over the Soybean dip from today, although they are very similar to each other. The other two dishes were very good, but if that Beef salad was mild (the way I ordered it), ordering it spicy will probably blow the roof off. Noticed on the menu today that they offer the Spicy Duck Salad as a main dish, over egg noodles -- next time!

Lobster Fried Rice. To keep it from overcooking, make the fried rice and only add the lobster for the last minute or two to reheat.
