  1. Anyone have the address/phone/email for this restaurant? The article just says, "Rendezvous restaurant in Aberystwyth, Cardiganshire." I don't even know in which country that is located. (Great Britain? Australia?) I'd like to send the restaurant owner a note and a printout of this thread to let him know he has some support out there.
  2. My fish was yummy. An added benefit was getting to tease dumpling with my fish head puppet, as jhlurie dubbed it.
  3. GWB is no problem.
  4. FYI - curdnerd does have a grill for us to use, so I don't think it is necessary for you to bring yours, unless you really want to.

    Dinner! 2003

Yesterday, I defrosted something from the deep freeze that I thought was moussaka. It was double wrapped (individual portions wrapped in aluminum foil and then all in a plastic bag), so was not freezer burned or anything. Turned out to be an eggplant rolatini casserole (like lasagna, but with eggplant cutlets instead of noodles). Very good, but we didn't realize what it was until Jason took the first bite. Moral: Label those packages!
  6. Maybe the name Keith Blackwell brought to mind "Mr. Blackwell" the obnoxious "best/worst dressed list" fashion critic.
  7. When I saw this thread, I thought, "how ridiculous," but then read the article. Here's a quote: Um, what if the jar broke in the microwave or in the jug of water? What about the smell of chicken in the air from the warmed food? If she had just fed the baby without having the baby food heated up I'm sure the restaurant wouldn't have even noticed. It was an 11 month old baby eating mushed up meat and veg -- would it have been so hard to order a little dish of veggies to feed the baby? I agree with the other patron Mrs. Graham bothered, quothe the restaurant owner, "I felt she was rude to me. She even asked the customers on the next table for their opinion and they told her that I was right."
  8. (running to my purse to get the takeout menu...) Kratiem Asian Fusion 4 East Palisades Avenue Englewood, NJ 07631 201-894-0343 201-894-0344 I'm interested in returning for dinner sometime soon, as the dinner menu did have some additional selections, including many fish dishes and Gai Yang. Mmm, gai yang.
  9. We could drop you off at the ferry. Or, perhaps Fat Guy could return you in the Momo-mobile?
  10. I like taking their fat free vanilla and mixing in some fresh fruit and granola for breakfast. It's very easy to eat while cruising eGullet. PS - I just found Stonyfield Farm's website which has recipes and coupons for their products.
  11. Ah yes, the chicken coup. That would be, um, the P for Poultry in the amended "map" above.

The bread-and-cheese shop will be open until at least 5 PM, and people can leave orders in the bakehouse (68F) or ripening room (55F) to keep it cold. 6. Parking Czar - this person should plan to arrive early. Update: jhlurie and =Mark are being shanghaied into this position with me and Jason. If you don't, you are volunteering to sweep out the barn! 7. Ice: Excellent suggestion, tommy. If you are bringing your food in a cooler, take note of above. 8. Recipes - If everyone will please post their recipes on recipeGullet that would be great. Also, if your food contains any common allergens, please bring a tag (like a table tent maybe?) to label your food. Thanks. 9. Leftovers - We're not leaving any for Curdnerd unless he specifically asks for something on the day. So, if you're the type of person who may wish to bring home leftovers of others' food, bring some plastic containers so everyone can take their own (real) dishes home. The disposable Glad® or Ziploc® containers are great. 10. Bring a Serving Implement for your dish. 11. Try to remember to bring a roll of TP per carload of people. 13. Think of the property like this: B ... L slope x F A H C |D| ============= Road ........ |E| ................. A is Bobolink's driveway H is curdnerd's house C is the lawn where we'll be D is eGullet's driveway and the main parking lot E is the parking lot across the way with a steeper driveway (for SUVs please) B is the Barn L is the Dairy building (Bathroom, aka L for Lavatory) F is another field - I think this would be a good area for the kids to play
  14. I'd assumed the well water was connected to curdnerd's house. That's only about 10 yards from our field. The trampoline is in the middle of the lawn where we'll be partying.
  15. Banana Pudding Serves 8 as Dessert. Made for the NJ eGullet Potluck on Sept 21, 2003. The photo is a quadrupled recipe, that's a 320 oz bowl (5 quarts of custard, a dozen bananas and two boxes of Nilla wafers). Feel free to just make the original version. 3/4 c sugar 4 T cornstarch 1/2 tsp salt 4 c milk 4 eggs, beaten 4 T butter 1 T Vanilla extract 1/2 box Nilla Wafers 4 large, ripe bananas 1/2 c Cream, sweetened and whipped Mix together the sugar, cornstarch and salt in a 2-4 quart saucepan. Whisk in milk and cook over low heat (or use a double boiler), stirring frequently, until thick. Stir about 1/2 cup of the hot mixture into the beaten eggs, then return to the pan, stirring thoroughly, over very low heat. Stir and cook about 5 minutes longer. Remove from the heat and add butter and vanilla. Whisk in completely. Strain the custard to remove any possible pieces of cooked egg. Cover and refrigerate until completely chilled. Up to 3 hours before serving, line a clear serving bowl with 1/3 of the Nilla wafers and sliced bananas. Smooth over 1/2 the custard. Another layer of wafers and banana, the rest of the custard. Decorate the top with the remaining cookies, bananas, and whipped cream. The bananas on top should be dipped in acidulated water to keep from browning. Keywords: Dessert, American, Fruit, Pudding ( RG608 )
  16. Did she answer the security questions truthfully? (Did you pack your own bag? Did anyone give you anything to carry?) I suppose we'll hear about it in the next episode, but I do want to know how J's recuperation went. Was she supposed to go with you to Beijing but decided to go home instead?
  17. OK - I've edited the above update. If anyone is looking to bring something else, since Soba dropped out along with his roasted tomatoes and wilted greens, so something along those lines would be nice. Oh, and we have all these garbage bags - how are we going to support them? Is anyone bringing a garbage can? Or should we just tie them to a tree or something?
  18. Tommy's the bestest. Why don't you just put everything you're bringing into the tub? (Although I'm sure you've already thought of that, duh.) Edit: just reread your list, what, no serving spoons? 'trix - sorry about your car and that you can't make it to the shindig. Soba - ditto, except not about a car. Soba was making a couple apps, roasted tomatoes and wilted greens. We have plenty of apps, but if anyone is looking to fill a hole, some more veggies are always welcome. Re: Charmin - I'm sure there's some there, but it may be a good idea to bring a roll with you anyway - don't want to run out or leave curdnerd with none. OK - BYOC and BYOTP
  19. Isaac Misrahi for Target. Edit: Damn, Klc beat me to it.
  20. I figured everyone should bring their own serving implement to leave with their dish (see #10 above). However, a few more couldn't hurt. But I'm done shopping for the event. So there.
  21. the top of whose page? i don't know if 10 serving spoons is enough. If your eGullet settings are set to 40 posts per page, most of the updates I've been posting appear at the top of most of the new pages. All of you who haven't optimized your eGullet settings must think I just post the updates randomly, huh? The 10 spoons I brought were the extra (in my mind), JIC people forget to bring their own serving implement for their dish.
  22. I didn't notice the desserts. With Jason taking all those pictures, they brought that one out comped. BTW - we didn't order all that food. We had a nice conversation about eGullet & stuff with a neighboring table and we traded bites of our dishes.
  23. Jeez, this thread is moving fast, so I once again missed to top of a page. Sorry. Tommy - I bought 10 plastic serving spoons. I don't know if that's enough or not, but I figured at 30 cents each, they couldn't hurt. ~~~ Date, Time, Location: Sunday, September 21, 2003 at 1:30 PM. 24. OK, I've bought the ingredients for the banana pudding (gotta give the bananas a couple of days to ripen). So no one else make it, you hear! Serious question though, since I've never actually made banana pudding before. Are the cookies supposed to get all soft? Because I could make it all up on Saturday, or I could bring the components with me and assemble it there on Sunday. In either case, I am not doing the baked meringue topping as I don't think it will travel well. Instead, I got a huge clear plastic bowl at a restaurant supply house so you can see the layers. While there I also got 20 small aluminum takeout trays & lids, if people want to take home leftovers (it still might be a good idea to throw a few of your own plastic containers in your car, JIC. I also got 10 plastic serving spoons, but it also might be a good idea for everyone to bring their own, JIC again.
  25. See above, Suzanne. It won't be down all weekend at this point. BTW - the weather report for Sunday has actually improved. From "Partly Cloudy 69°/47° 10 % precip" to "Sun Sep 21 Sunny 72°/47° 0 % precip "
