    Lunch! (2003-2012)

don't be malawry - it wasn't that exciting. the onion rings and the peach pie were good. from now on i'm sticking with strictly deep-fried items at the big V.
  2. did you edit that list at all jackal? or is that how it originally was? because the thing i can't understand how one spells the same word a thousand different ways. i mean granted it's old english, and they were most likely illiterate, but i say take one spelling and run with it. Lunch! (2003-2012)

went to The Varsity today - grilled chicken sandwich with onion rings, varsity orange drink, and a peach fried pie.
  4. hmm..what about vinegar? that might be better than lemon juice. plus you can use it for flavor.
  5. so couldn't you still use lemon juice in water? it's still citric acid.
  6. doh. the main reason for dipping in an acid solution is to retard blackening - so just squeeze a lemon into water and dip it in that. same solution you would use to retard any other fruit or veggie's oxidation process.
  7. i wouldn't suggest the diet coke thing. especially not when it comes to boiling. why not jsut buy some citric acid and experiment with various solutions?
  8. this post made me want to attempt sauce from scratch this weekend in my crockpot. and could you give me some measurment guidelines for the ingredients? (more specifically the tomato products - the spicing i can do by smell) thanks!
  9. there's a really good Indian place in Buffalo apparently - called Tandoori. (can't vouch for it personally, but i've an acquaintance who goes every time he's in buffalo - and he's from philly.)
  10. never liked it, wouldn't eat it growing up. tomato soup, on the other hand.....(with the little dollop of cream)
  11. what'll ya have, what'll ya have....
  12. hee!
  13. emily - that was a great piece of writing. thanks for sharing. most of the other posts as i've kept up with this thread have been blah, blah, chicken, blah, palette, blah palate, blah blah...yours transported me. thanks for giving me a better idea of what the CT experience is like.
  14. mom used turmeric, chili and salt. they never made it to the next day.
  15. ooh that reminds me - chocolate chip cream of wheat packets. nuked til it was hard and lumpy. for some reason it tasted best that way.
  16. the original cookie crisp (before they changed the recipe) cocoa pebbles or count chocula crunch'n berries. and lucky charms.

  18. well..all this bruhaha aside - welcome to a fellow Atlantan!
  19. raitas qualify don't they?
  20. this is a funny, funny story. kind of sad too, but very funny.
  21. ahhhh..nuts would give adequate fat. i guess i stand corrected. (but i'll never admit it! )
  22. i know - i meant with effects like laughing, eating and sleeping well, it doesn't seem like a bad thing. are the fruits coconuts? the reason i'm asking is because the ingredient in marijuana that makes one "high" is tetrahydracannabinol (THC) and it's fat soluble. i had a long argument wiht someone once in another time and place regarding whether fat in the form of butter or oil or cream was truly necessary in order to extract the THC and ingest it. My argument was no, but they didn't believe me. If Thandai doesn't have any fat in it, then my arguments holds water.
  23. so you laughed with your friends, ate well and fell sound asleep. i don't understand why bhang is illegal. also does thandai have any source of fat in it?
  24. what is the traditional bhang recipe anyways?
  25. i understand what you mean about crispy.... i wonder if you did turn the heat up a little on the pan, and take the shrimp out of the liquid, sear them real quick on each side, and then add the liquid to cool the pan down and lower the heat, simmer and proceed witht he rest of the recipe.
