  1. see..why is it no one is ever willing to out and out ban sugar? it does just as much harm in the long term as smoking. it definitely causes an increase in insurance premiums. and we've already had Big Food lawsuits. i think it's just a matter of time.
  2. this anti-smoking thing is working out so well..... let's ban sugar next!
  3. what are the movements like? typical hatha sun salutations, or more like the ashtunga style of strength moves?

    Packaged Cookies

mmm...adjective? could you give me an example of what you mean?
  5. anu - how has bikram yoga helped you? i've seen a lot of places popping up recently and i'm curious about it, but don't know if i'm curious enough to pay for it. (my gym membership is free currently) could you describe it for me?

    Winter squash recipes

i'm a big fan of honey and butter for both squash and chestnuts. that's just me.
  7. *lol*! this is one of my pet peeves. also - me personally - i find the eat less move more motto a bit too glib, but i'm not a normal person. I'm the only person I know that (well previous to getting medicated) could eat anywhere from 0 - 2000 calories for weeks on end, and lose nothing - but gain if i ate 2200 or more.
  8. first off congratulations on losing the pounds! good for you. my tips are as follows: - eat several small meals during the day - the best method i've ever followed (shared with me by a competitive female bodybuilder) is eat around the clock - 6am-9am-12pm-3pm-6pm-9pm. you can tailor this to whatever your schedule may be. - obviously doing this you don't want to have big big meals - here is my meal 1 and meal 2: m1 - Cappucino Delite Myoplex lite shake - (i'm useless without coffee in the morning, and like you - i can't stomach much that early) - i mix it with 2 tsps instant coffee and water, a little half-n-half and 2 tbsps brewers yeast (chromium, b-vitamins - 13gs protein) - i wind up with an easy 40gs protein, plus my caffeine, plus it's something i can drink. It also gives me the energy to go workout prior to going to work. m2 - 1/2 cup 4% cottage cheese, and fruit of your choice ( i found for me that a ketogenic diet was too difficult to stick too - i just make sure my carb choices are from fresh vegetables or fruits, and make sure that those fruits and vegetables are low on the Glycemic Index.) I've also in the past built in oats as my breakfast carb source. i'll tell you the mealplan that truly worked for me and got me losing a pound a week WITH an untreated thyroid condition was as follows: m1 - coffee+ half n half, 1/2c cottage cheese + 1 tbsp flax seed oil m2 - oatmeal with blueberries m3 - 4oz meat, poultry or fish plus 1c veggies m4 - trailmix of nuts plus dried fruit (homemade, not prepackaged) m5 - fresh mixed green salad with red onion, fresh carrot, cherry tomatoes, honeyroasted sunflower seeds, and either 2 hard boiled eggs, or one of those 3oz cans of albacore tuna, with a balsamic vinaigrette. i think it came out to about 2000 cals once all is said and done. and my other non-diet tips are: - sweat everyday - i can't stress enough how important weight-training is - you can lose weight without exercise, but oft-times you wind up being a smaller version of your old lump-bumpy self. to truly shape a physique, weight-bearing exercise is key. plus strength-training with proper intesity results in up to 14 cals/per minute burned, as opposed to the average 10 doing low-intensity cardio. - Interval training when it does come to doing cardio - ie walk/sprint routines where you walk for 2 minutes and then sprint for 1. Do that for 20 minutes, and it will pay off much more than just walking for 30 or even 45 would. It also helps your cardiovascular system much more. - weigh yourself only once a week - and use a tapemeasure to mark changes - don't beat yourself up if you cheat occassionally. i know for me, pms is a difficult time for me to stay on a low-carb diet - so i allow myself to eat whatever I want for that week, and skip exercise if i don't feel up to it as well. It goes a long way in helping me stay sane. hope this helps a little bit.

    Packaged Cookies

word. me too! i got gifted with a pack from work last week. i'm not sure why, but i also got a pack of pre-sliced queso cheese. haven't tried the cheese, but tore up the cookies last night. now i need more.
  11. Do you also feel lighter like maybe you have less water weight and you can move better on that day than the prior days? oh absolutely - p-week is the one week I can actually see something akin to abs as well. i also feel almost flushed that first day. if anything during p-week, i feel super-normal. one thing i have found is that the cravings come int he evenings during PMS, and if i actually bump up my calories per day to 24-2600 (i normally eat around 2000) i don't wind up bingeing in the evenings.
  12. really? do you remember what you found to be incorrect?
  13. i'm kinda thrilled that mizrahi will be designing for target - i can finally afford him. there is no shame in my game - i am a hardcore target shopper - i love their jeans for trendy clubwear. anywho....i think it's hypocritical that bayless is on about this sandwich. and i won't be buying it. mainly cuz it looks gross. and commercial mass-market chicken scares me. and burger king is the devil.

    I've Got Flax

good stuff for breakfast. i like the friendship california style best. actually it's the only one i will eat, but it's 4% milkfat. this week for breakfast it's been grapefriut flesh, demerara sugar (just a sprinkle) and cootage cheese. :D not quite the acquired taste of flax and cottage cheese....and yeah, toss yours out and get a new bottle, preferably fom cobblestone mills or jarrow. in a pinch spectrum isn't bad.
  15. i prefer goat to lamb. and i love a good biryani or a mutton and potato curry.
  16. mmmm...this sounds really good. how much garlic did you use? i'm actually thinking about making one with garlic, bell pepper and horseradish flavored vodka. my problem is, that i'm liberal with my use of garlic, but it winds up incredibly overpowering.
  17. not exactly a hot dog, but tastes great on a bun.....New West Buffalo Hot Polishs. yum.
  18. well this is good news. i wonder where all the bikers will park their hogs tho.
  19. all forms of carby goodness. usually i alternate between sour cream and onion pringles, and chocolate and candy. it's bad. i also want to sleep in and not move off the couch. wierdest thing is come the morning of P-day, i wake up craving salad and freeweight squats. i also wake up bright-eyed and perky at 5am.
  20. i know. mysteriously i could find no author for this book - judging what i know of my mother's cooking, the quantities look right - they even have several biryani recipes in there - from the extravagant to the simpler. suffice to say i'm fairly impressed in theorynot practice, yet.
  21. there is only one sandwich cookie for me......Carr's Ginger-Lemon.
  22. doesn't that make it a smore? not that there's anything wrong with smores. yum.
  23. I went by the bookstore yesterday on a whim and saw this book sitting on the shelf: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...=glance&s=books I was thrilled to find it, especially for myself, because it has recipes for all sorts of things, alongside recipes for making tamarind pulp, or garam masala. i haven't tried any yet, but after I move i intend on breaking in the new kitchen with a complete meal from this book.
  24. well my doctors (both GP and endo) have always required fasting, because of the chance of skewing. I mean you really don't want to have say a 3 egg omellete and then go in for a test, because your numbers are goign to look off the chart, simply because those triglycerides are being transported when your blood was drawn. it can give you a"false positive" as it were. if you want to know if soemone has a problem, look at their baseline.
  25. mmm..praline mousse. toliver - bourbon sauce goes with everything as far as i'm concerned.
