well there's the buckhead diner out that way - most of the rest of buckhead at that hour is clubs and bars. there is a greasy drunk-food shack right near the havana club, but i wouldn't recommend it as good eats. i think theres a taco mac close by too - the diner is pretty good tho. oh there's also an ihop. i'm figuring by the time you touchdown, get your bags and get up there it will probalby be after midnight right? backstreets always open and pouring and they have the added benefit of tuna in their vending machines - something else i wouldn't recommend. they're also in midtown so that doesn't help much. eleven50 might be a possibility - that' smidtown too - but i believe they've got a tapas bar? as well.

we just had brats the other night - we simmered them in beer first and then stuck them under the broiler - i suppose witht he pre-cooked ones you can put them under the broiler too. i do that with hot polishes that are pre-cooked as well.

ummm....i only know the all-night diners...and places to get greasy alcohol-soaking up food late at night. where are you going to be staying whilst in town?

umm..leafy, green....somewhat sour, somewhat bitter. I've neve rhad it with betel nut, and i prefer mine with spices and rock sugar. adding those in give it a spicy-sweet note to go along with the green sour bitter.

word - i've seen some hilarious things happen at white castle at that hour. Like possibly me and a fellow bridesmaid, still all done up, covered in glitter, 3 sheets to the wind, ordering jalapeno burgers and those weird chicken rings, being carefully chaperoned by col klink, perhaps? white castle--word. Batgrrrl *lol* well that's par for the course in my circles - well maybe not the bridalwear, unless it's drag queens - wait the bridal party got to wear glitter? fabulous! i think the craziest thing i saw was this guy in line getting picked on for being in full 80s disco gear by the rest of the patrons. he then got upset and stormed off screaming i'm gonna get all of you! well the entire crowd starts heading for the exits, thinking the guys gonna come back with a gun. (this was in new york) My friends and i stayed at our table in the back wondering what the hell was going on and of course hoping to catch all the action whilst possibly dodging bullets. anyways - the guy comes back with a baseball bat out of his car and smashes in the front window - well when the crowd realizes he doesn't have a gun they chase him out into the parking lot, and he starts runnign down the street, and then they ransacked his car for anything valuable (he left it open in his uhh haste). my friends and i were definitely not sober an dhtis was the funniest thing in the world to us. other than full on girl-fights that take plac ein the parking lot. those were fun to watch too. edit - btw this happened in like '93 - hence the guy getting picked on in the first place.

well my mind first went to the pirates booty collection of styrofoam snacks. then i remembered that red beans and rice apparently are notorious for putting a backside on someone. i think i might have got that from Sir Mix-a-lot in Baby got Back tho.

also different gyms have different clientele i think. the gym i train at is a "for serious people only" type of gym - everyone in there is grimy in their sweats tuned into their headphones and doing their workouts - there's very little interaction and no one passes judgement one way or the other. now the gym i work for is a"beautiful people" gym. It prides itself on bearing "no judgements", and really there are no judgements - we have people of all sorts, but a preponderance of the incredibly good-looking. there's a bit more socializing, and a lot more cruising and i can see where it can be more intimidating, if you judge by just the surface. heck i felt quite intimidated when i first started working there.

protecting a worker in their place of employment makes sense to me. once again tho - there should still be places for smokers to do their thing, as opposed to out in the street. unless you prefer smokers to be taking the party into your neighborhood. what i've detected so far in this thread tho - has been a lot more of a volatile emotional issue on BOTH sides, as opposed to a clearcut case of workers rights.
-
and perhaps this is where my main issue with these rulings is. there is no alternative for smokers other than outside, which then impedes on people in the neighborhood. so basically you've taken the "right to the pursuit of happiness" away from smokers, and given it to gloating non-smokers. i find the sanctimonious unappealing no matter what their particular soapbox might be, and i find it ludicrous that the sanctimonious are now in charge of everyone else.
-
and that's fine. everyone has their concerns. but why does your problem become my problem, or on the flipside of that token - why should you have to bear the weight of my issues? for instance - like someone else said here - i find being gassed with soemone else's perfume to be the worse thing on earth. i avoid those people or do my best to move quickly away. i hate the smell of cigars. I don't visit cigar bars. I find sugar added to sweeten up something savory to be absolutely disgusting. i will choose not to put those things in my mouth. do i somehow feel i can control everythign around me? hell no - i know i can't. if someone does something that is not your choice, then choose not to be in the company of that person. but to whine and complain and throw nasty glances and then eventually move on to legislating - well in my mind that's passive aggression. you have the freedom to do whatever you want to do. just like anyone else does. as long as smoking is legal, and anyone over the age of 18 is free to smoke, why should those people have to adjust to you and your needs - why don't you adjust yourself to your needs? you know what i mean? or probably not, becaujse the sentiment seems to be that your needs are more important than those around you who might hold different priorities. i just find this self-centeredness and lack of personal responsibility to be a uniquiely Western thing.
-
to be honest with you - i do that now. if i were diabetic and forced to eat sugar, that restaurant would not be getting my business i don't care what kind of recommendation it has. as for the handicapped and parking spaces, that i can understand - if you have limited mobility and i'm doubting it was your choice to have that limited mobility, then yes, allowances have to be made for you. my lifestyle is not your lifestyle, that mine should bend to accomodate you, or anyone else for that matter (whether it be in a perceived positive or negative way) is self-centered on your part. essentially your asking that no matter what the situation, the world should be molded to meet any given individuals demands. at what point do you decide that that is no longer ethical? that the world doesn't have to bend to the whims of whomever? my guess is when it starts infringing on your rights and/or desires.
-
i'm not debating which is worse - y'all are. i'm giving a hypothetical situation in which, quite possibly, the government can rationalize what is best for you, to a degree which i don't believe too many people would be comfortable. if one is concerned about inhaling excess smoke, one can always choose not to go to bars and clubs where excess smoke occurs. as it stands the bar and club-hopping set has always been hand in hand with the smoking set. in restaurants i think it's fine that there is no smoking. i just find it laughable that those who most likely are tucked safely in bed by 9pm just legislated the hell out of the after-hours crowd. as my mom said, it's probably because the after-hours crowd was too busy nursing a hangover ot make it to the polls. but regardless..... at what point do you decided that you have given away too much of your personal freedom and right to choice?
-
hmmm...i've got a couple of different ideas - would you mind explaining the context in which you heard this phrase?

y'all don't think sugar consumption directly leads to type II diabetes? or obesity - which is our latest epidemic? We can start talking about heart disease and arteriosclerosis, and direct links to insulin release, but the scientific research is too new, and/or limited for it to make a dent in your way of thinking anyway, so i will rest on that until the facts become self-evident. which they will in due time. do you really think it's a minute concern? as children get fatter, and get higher cholesterol levels and more and more cases of adult-onset diabetes start popping up, it's going to be a major concern. and sherribabee - whilst i agree on the point of lack of choice in the matter of second-hand smoke - i think the other two points are a matter of perception no? if people were innundated with propoganda about the evils of sugar, eventually you would be a bad bad person...nay the devil incarnate for using sugar at all.
