  1. their spam isn't looking very good either. interesting tho - spam and those syrup splotches. i need to move to hawaii.
  2. Florida too, around Kissemee and the outlying groves. incidentally i can't see your picture mcdowell.
  3. Oh oh oh, I wish you hadn't reminded me! Thorn Apple Valley used to make a spicy kielbasa that I loved - just perfect for the lentil and sausage salad that, alas, just won't ever be quite the same without it. They dropped it a couple of years ago, for no apparent reason. WAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH! god that sausage sounds good too. i'm absolutely heartbroken about the hot polishes. they were a combo of beef and buffalo and had 16gs of protein per sausage. it made the perfect hot dog for me to eat for dinner on an ezekiel hot dog bun, and feel like i was cheating without cheating. *sigh*
  4. ari - i'm not sure about in town - but I do know if you go to the corner of hammond and mt vernon in sandy springs there is a farmstand that has them. Unfortunately the lady that sells them there is under 70, but does meet your specification for minimal teeth. also if you ever decide to drive to florida, stop at pretty much any gas station in South Georgia and they will have them simmering in crockpots. worst comes to worst, check Publix produce aisle - they've got them near the bagged salads in plastic bags.
  5. oh, and New West Buffalo Hot Polishes. dang those things were good.

mmm...kippers on toast with mushroom cream gravy. anyways...ruthcooks - do you have a recipe for those cottage cheese pancakes? I'm intrigued.
  7. chocolate chip cream of wheat.
  8. a former co-worker of mine (and rutgers graduate and jersey native) used to rave about those fatcats. of course he was beanpole skinny as well.
  9. hmm...strange. I have no idea what those bushes were. the fruit looked like blackberries (or at least the blackberries that you get in stores) but there were also brambles (like raspberry) that turned black as opposed to red when they were ripe. these berries are so confusing. *lol* oh i forgot - down here in georgia i've foraged for berries as well as muscadine grapes.
  10. hwilson - this thread is reminding me of summers hiking the hills behind my house in Upstate New York with my sister and our friends. Literally 500 feet from my backyard there were raspberry brambles and I guess blackberries? (they looked like blackberries, but on straight singular stalks?) wild grapes, wild apples and pears. what saddens me now is that that area is now a housing tract and all the foliage (along with the deer, rabbits and pheasants) is probably long gone. on a side note - i remember being insanely jealous that a friend of mine had wild strawberries growing all over her backyard!
  11. i'm a wild raspberry fanatic. blackberrys too. and i absolutely adore the taste of wild strawberries.
  12. so i don't get it.....does it become some sort of waffle and syrup sandwich?

  16. *lmao* at the smackdown a page back. mags you're dangerous.
  17. hmm... you're making me want to try the chicken salad at chik-fil-a now, fifi. (with a side of fried apple pie) hee.

god breakfast is my favorite meal, and i'll eat breakfast foods at any time of day. i go through cycles tho. i love french toast or waffles with soem ham or bacon and maple syrup. biscuits slit in half with a sausage patty on each half and the whole thing covered in cream or sausage gravy. eggs benedict scarmbled eggs with cheese and hot sauce with some wheat toast. fried egg sandwiches with s&p and ketchup on buttered wheat toast. eggs over easy with some hash browns (the shredded kind, not the homestyle) with uhh..buttered wheat toast and lots of S&P. all with strong hot cafe au lait - sometimes sweetened, sometimes not.
  19. *lol* maybe i'll try cider this time therese. beer makes me bloated. for some reason i got on this cajun penauts and vanilla coke kick a couple of years ago. it kinda cuts the spiciness, but it does set my teeth on edge. i'll give cider a shot.
  20. i actually stopped by Publix last night and picked up a bag of cajun style boiled peanuts in the produce aisle. i will eat them cold for dinner tonight, perhaps with a vanilla coke.
  21. so therese - those bags they have of mature in-shell peanuts in netbags at say harry's....are those considered raw? (to be honest i've never really looked at them)
  22. okay here's a question i have.... the boiled peanuts i eat seem to be mature, ones that come in the netbags. the raw peanuts i see in the farmers market are soft, tender, and little baby peanuts with dirt still on them. i've fad the "new penauts" boiled, and it tastes nothing like the mature peanut boiled. am i missing soemthing? are the mature penauts in net bags considered raw as well?
  23. mmmm..boiled peanuts. also - in addition to pronouncing it "bawled", you must peel them with your teeth and suck all the juices out, not try to shell them with your fingers.
  24. layered? is she nuts? swirls maybe, but layered sounds like it would become a purple mess. my thoughts are tarts with the requisite blueberries and strawberries and some layer cake type thingies with cool icing (white w/ blue stars?), angel food layers, and raspberry jam in between? those would make cute petit fours too. or those rainbow petit fours, except with red, white and blue layers, and white chocolate coating. Here's a recipe with a picture of the cookies i mean: http://www.wchstv.com/gmarecipes/rainbowcookies.html ) edit: freezing might work, but wouldn't it cause crystals which would turn to air pockets upon baking? edit again: doh nevermind...just saw Sinclair's post.
