  1. Will see you and your wife there tomorrow as well, Milt, and hopefully will add my two helping hands to yours!
  2. Although we are separated by great distances of land/water miles, the eGullet community is united as one family .. we care, grieve, pray, listen, and communicate about many more things than merely food here. This week has done nothing if not solidify this 'family' and you are quite correct, Jaymes, this thread has given us a place to share our emotions and look forward to good times (such as Varmint's Pig Pickin') with hope. Thanks for saying it so very well, Jaymes.
  3. The older Brennans are now all together in Houston .. read this article for details ... In this type of a crisis, the inequities become even more visible ... especially with 24/7 coverage ... very sad.
  4. My rental car may well turn out to be a Segway scooter, depending upon what the situation looks like when I get to Raleigh-Durham Airport. I well may have to fill the tank with that Two Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's ...
  5. Gasoline price gouging .. tonight I heard on NPR that it isn't illegal gouging if the station owner charges customers $6 a gallon when his supplier is charging him $5.75 a gallon ... somehow I find that interesting ..

  9. Please note that the fair and lovely Marlene is the 500th reply in this thread .. doesn't that entitle her to a free drink? This is a cash bar, isn't it, Varmint??
  10. Nothing like a sober shepherd ... I'll volunteer to be the designated sheepherder for the eGullet flock, Varmint .. Didn't the singer Pink have a hit single called "Let's Get This Party Started" not long ago?
  11. Possibly because one of the first family members who tried to break through the outer layer of thickly baked cheese felt a sense of frustration? Could have been worse: panic ...then they would have referred to this dish and Mac'n'Panic ...
  12. Scroll down this page and see how one can make "faux lamingtons" by using Duncan Hines butter cake mix ... not the real thing made of sponge cake! Horrors! a travesty in playing footloose and fancy free with a recipe
  13. This article taught me a bit about lamingtons ..right here but much of it is done humorously so it is a bit confusing .. so is it Australian or Scottish??
  14. but other than your house? where is the best mac'n'cheese, Varmint? will pay big $$ for good stuff .. with a cheddary top crust!

  25. Haven't been there in about two years but it was quite good at that time in terms of both food and service. The creativity was not terribly apparent in what we both ate but then creativity is in the eye of the beholder. more reviews
