Breaking Away, 1979 eenie foods? . Big Night (1996) a truly great film about food!

Cynic to cynic? I had forgotten about their "healthy fried chicken" (an oxymoron to be sure) claims being exposed ... and, yes, I most certainly agree that, for a big operation like KFC, $5000 for positive publicity (spun by them, of course) is a paltry, meagre sum ...

A healthy food at KFC?? What's this world coming to??

Yet another starch added to their already unappetizing potatoes 'n' gravy, baked beans, corn, and biscuit? Actually, I think you ought to enter it, irrespective of the other stuff they offer .... headlines? Fifi Foodfinds: cornbread dressing to die for!

But do those okra pods have true girth? The ones I despise are the stewed pods, flaccid from overcooking and slimy and drippy ... this is not supposed to be sexually explicit, merely food porn at its lowest .. but I seriously hate okra with a passion .. in any form ... overrated vegetable if there ever was one ...

Good enough to enter in their contest??

For this KFC ain't gonna fork over $5000 ... perhaps spork over is more fitting?

Don't you suppose that most superstition was initially grounded in practical reality? and that, over time, it became more simply a matter of tradition, and the original roots were lost in the mists of time ... the final product being much more interesting when repeated over and over ... An example which comes to mind: a daughter questions her mother about why she always cut the ends off of her loaf cakes ... the response was "I don't know but that it the way we always do it in this family." Turns out that the great-grandmother had a serving plate for loaf cakes that was considerably shorter than the finished cakes and the ends were always trimmed! No big mystery after all ...

All American Strawberry Shortcake via Epicurious Have to admit that the recipe is marvelous! and if you happen to find luscious, succulent strawberries, you will be most pleased with the final result!

How about something on the sweet side, like a glob of marshmallow-topped yam souffle? or a cranberry-orange relish using mandarin oranges? Enrevanche: never give away your recipes for free! They want to pay $5000, which is a drop in the bucket (bad pun, sorry! ) so why say no?? Seriously, I would love to see one of us eG posters win this and get some national recognition for eG ...

Look, if you will, for just a moment at what they are currently using as sidedishes: Mashed Potatoes w/ gravy Potato Wedges Macaroni & Cheese Corn on the Cob BBQ Baked Beans Salads and Cole Slaw Potato Salad All good reliable, over-salted starches ... anything else seem feasible? Something that can be eaten with that damned spork that they used to offer? And whatever became of those "wetnaps"??

Actually don't trust group consensus because it is rarely reliable... composite reviews by a panel usually end up reflecting the viewpoint of the person with the most chutzpah, and the most vocal.... Of course, criticism, no matter how deeply steeped in expertise, is still at the end of the day, merely personal opinion. Whatever your level of acumen, when it comes to taste, you should never trust any palate more than the one you own. If beauty be in the eye of the beholder, as the saying goes, taste lives in your nose and mouth. Ultimately, it's what you think about spirits and fortified wines that counts... and then mostly only to you.

Frappucino fattening ?? Some people automatically assume their coffees have few calories .. add a little milk, a little half-and-half, sugar and the totals rise dramatically ...

I recall reading that one should not store potatoes in a cold place, like the refrigerator, because it alters the starches .. this what you are referring to here? But then Dave knows that quite well if I know his abilities ...

KFC: The contest Perhaps my sidedish should be Gifted Gourmet's Grits'n'Greens? Southern enough to please the Colonel? What would you like to submit as a possible sidedish for the contest?

I remember those! The blue in the ice was so intense that it made your lips a frightening blue .. so much so, in fact, that my daughter thought I was in congestive heart failure and she wanted to call 911 . ....
