My first reaction to this question was "Daniel Rogov, an eGullet regular member will know." Then I found his article here ads for wine on the right here

Did you at least get her to sign up for eGullet?? maybe her curiosity was piqued ...

a "Master Class" with a famous chef in history
Gifted Gourmet replied to a topic in Food Traditions & Culture
Slight correction if you will permit me .. on Ho Chi Min: a busboy? and now he has the capital of what was VietNam named after him?? Whatta world! Would have said "only in America" but that is all wrong geographically ... -
Speaking of chintzier, I was appalled when Delta Airlines, due to financial considerations, eliminated the iceberg lettuce leaf from their sandwiches to save money ... didn't hit me until, at 70,00 feet, my sandwich seemed "empty" ...

So now the famous "Twinkie Defense" has been thrown out in favor of the "Hot Dog Defense"?? Will Jason, your barrister of all things beefy, speak up for you in court, intoning sonorously. "My Lords, the Crown intends to prove that Jon Lurie is not guilty by virtue of having ingested a surfeit of weinery ..."??

You have, either vertantly or inadvertantly, picked the one serious offender: ricotta cheese containers, which is my nemesis! How did you know? I dread opening them knowing what a battle is is to later have to reopen them ...

Group Grub Therapy?? Meetings once a week, month, day, or hourly?? This is positively cathartic to be able to rant about stuff the "outside" world can only sit in their homes and become paranoid about ... but here we have the eG Food Vent Deluxe!! Jason and Steven will start doing "billable hours" for helping us through our daily psychic crises!!

I don't know why packaging has to be so hostile ... I value the "safety" it affords me but really .. and, yes, Compass Rose, I have been summarily disemboweled while tearing off aluminum foil and plastic wrap more than once ... actually had a large "restaurant size" roll of each of these food films and the teeth on that were like the ones which they put near the exits on rental car places ... with the warning "Backing up can cause serious damage to your vehicle tires" ...

Many thanks for this recipe, Adam Balic! and I, too, am a devoted fan of the author of Lobscouse and Spotted Dog ...

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I am so paranoid that I always thought it was just me!! You have saved me untold amounts of money for therapy!!

On the top of the page is a button which says Recipe Gullet.. click on that and post your recipe there! We will be waiting for your hot, hot, hot habanero pepper jelly!!

Jason, I am so incredibly impressed with your hot dog "research" here!! Slate survey looks positively wimpy by comparison! Think Consumer Reports will make you an offer for this project?? and, more importantly, is this a fond farewell to your cherished and beloved White Castles?? Still digesting?? Great post in all respects! Many thanks for doing this thankless task on behalf of us all who adore the hot dog in whatever form! No rabbi has ever been more scrupulous in checking out the kosher franks you reviewed here.

Ah, you must have been in my kitchen during my long and hard fought battle with many, many wrappings!! I handle cheese in the same way basically .. but I don't, how can I say this delicately, "cut the cheese" .. in half anyway .. slice pieces off the ends ...wrap in more plastic and then a bag as well ... Hate anything that says "push here" .. invariably doesn't come away smoothly as hoped for.... always disappointing ... Boxes are getting more and more complicated ... thought it was just me .. apparently not! Thanks for the topic!!

If the smoked salmon is: (a) not actually smoking a Marlboro (b) if the salmon is not holding any nail clippers © if the salmon first removes its sneakers (d) if the salmon shows a picture ID Answer? Choose one, or all of the above ... Glad you enjoyed the website!

Ha'aretz article on airline food Supposedly, airlines now are trying to make their food offerings more passenger friendly and appealing ... catering to individual needs ... they consult name chefs for ideas and appear to be making some effort (probably concerted, but difficult to ascertain) to offer more interesting inflight service. Your opinion on which airline you have flown that serves excellent meals? Or simply horrible meals? Better on flights which are national or international? The concept of charging extra for meals (after one has purchased a seat at no small expense)? Of course, economy class is always less interesting foodwise than first or business, a given here .... I have enjoyed the food service on Virgin Airways the most .. Lufthansa? the least. Continental international service is not half bad really. I live in Delta's homebase so most of my flights are with them, and their food is not good in any respect, in my opinion. How about you? Perfect website for airline meals! I especially enjoy the pictures of foods on planes in the 70's, 80', 90's, etc. It is a marvelously entertaining website (especially the pictures with the customers' ratings and comments for each meal by airline!). Best when viewed from the safety of one's home and in the proximity to one's own kitchen!

I started a thread on bread puddings back at the end of May and there are some posts which may be relevant to savoury, although some were definitely about the sweet types as well: click here

The red onions I buy for use at home are generally sweeter than the other varieties of onions ... of course, I live not far from Vidalia, Georgia, and we have the sweetest of onions all summer ... just found a cool recipe for red onion marmalade .. love red onions and never salt them ...

The debate continues Your opinion? Is it comfort food? For Southerners only? What is there to debate anyway?
-
Here are a few possibilities for what you may be contemplating .. personally, I think I may make the Wensleydale because I like most of the ingredients: Savoury bread puddings which look interesting something a little different from BBC something from Food Network Canada Wensleydale bread pudding

Since your question has been asked and answered in many forms so frequently here on eG, I was curious to learn more about the idea of "comfort foods" .. and, to be sure, they are, for each indidiual, quite personal from their own childhoods .. mine are not even particularly unusual: chicken soup with matzo balls, macaroni and cheese, chocolate pudding ... here is just a snippet of the article I read: Maybe the better question would be "what are your favorite ethnic comfort foods based upon your own personal experiences growing up?"
