Gorgonzola waffle fries at Cutters.

But seriously folks, anyone wanna talk about how over-hyped the fries are at Monk's? More often limp than not.

yeah, holly and i have lamented this very fact many a time on here.

My complaint, not limited to Monk's, has to do with restaurants that go to all the trouble of twice frying fresh cut fries, but cut them shoe-string, making it impossible to produce proper pomme frites.

Holly - have you had the fries at Grace's Tavern? It seems to me that they're cooked the same way as Monk's, but they're cut to a normal size. Every time I've been there, they've been great as far as I'm concerned. In fact, my first thought the last time I was there was, "Man, this must be what Holly's talking about."

I've had those, they were good but I thought the truffle overwhelmed the fries, and the dipping sauce totally overwhelmed everything else. They were still good, but if they'd replace the dipping sauce with whatever they're using to get the truffle in there (truffle oil, I guess) to be drizzled at the diner's discretion, that would be better.

Not recently, because every time I go to Grace Tavern I am compelled to order their Jambalaya which doesn't come with fries.

Back when they first opened, they seemed to be bouncing back and forth between shoestring cut and proper cut fries. That's discussed in the thread on Grace Tavern. Maybe, and hopefully, they've settled on properly cut french fries.

Really - I didn't have that problem. I found that the stinky-sexy-yummy combo of truffle oil and smelly cheese was just right. I've had them maybe three times and thought they were really good each time (as well as the Steak Frites they accompanied on one visit). Maybe you just had a heavy-handed chef that night?

You mean Twenty21, don't you? What had been Cutter's changed ownership and names several years ago. I loved those gorgonzola waffle fries, too, but Cutter's took them off the menu about six or seven years ago, iirc. Have you been back and have they been reinstated?

That was the joke. :)
