Renting a commercial kitchen - Sydney

I would like to know if anyone has heard of restaurants or cake shops/bakeries who are willing to rent their kitchens on a casual basis, say on a day or time when the kitchen is not being used. I wish to make some baked goods to sell at the local market and assume that I can't do this in my home kitchen due to council regulations, so it would be great to rent a council-approved kitchen on a casual basis for a couple of days a month, more or less depending on the orders.

Thanks in advance.

You should check with your council first. Local markets are small scale and I'd be astonished if there was some bylaw against you using your kitchen to bake goods.

But other than that, you should try one of the cooking schools. The might be able to help you.

Thanks for your reply. I would think that it should be ok too, especially as I am only doing it once a month if that. At the markets I noticed a few stalls, ladies selling homebaking and I would be very surprised if those came from a commercial kitchen.

The cooking schools are a good idea, thanks. Lately the issue of insurance reared its ugly head and it was suggested that businesses wouldn't want to rent to me because of insurance issues, they wouldn't be covered if I burnt the place down.

<sigh> The drawing board is a bad place to be!

I'm also looking for a full time (day shift) kitchen to rent in the Sydney area from now until the end of the year. Basically Mon - Fri 9 - 5.

Capable of accomadating 15 trainee's.

Have just received a large government grant for commercial cookery training and will be running courses full time throughout the year.

Of course, we are prepared to pay $$ for the kitchen rental $$.

There are worse places than a drawing board, if indeed you're talking literally about a drawing board. I have one too, and I too am currently bent over it...

...but to keep on track... i think Fenix here in Melbourne hires out their commercial 'training/show' kitchen every now and then...
