Best Wings

Which restaurants/bars serve the best wings in the DC area?

Hooters is good but the best one I had so far was at MVPs near MCI Center. It's sweet and spicy.

There used to be a good one in the Pentagon City Mall but it closed down and was replaced by Popeyes.

Try the Tandoori Chicken Wings at Bombay Curry Company in Alexandria

Marinated in fresh ground ginger, garlic and spices then charcoal broiled on a skewer in a clay pit oven, the 'tandoor'. Crisp n juicy with a nice smokey flavor.

What am I doing ( slap myself), pushing those wings when, with the superbowl, party wings are wholesale close to bonelss skinless chicken breasts!

Anyway I think they are a great starter or even a mini meal with a naan.

But then I do work for the Bombay Curry Company and my opinion could be biased.

PS: here's the scoop, hotter and spicier ' Vindalloo Wings ' are going to hit the menu soon.

Weclome to egullet roaddc

The wings at Clyde's, at least the Chevy Chase branch, are surprisingly good.

If you want some more chi-chi chicken snacks, sometimes you can find some drumsticks (at the two bars only) at Ortanique. They're glazed with this sorrel flower paint and they are very, very good...we ate them in the kitchen all the time when they appeared in-house. Sweet and sticky and a little bitter from the glaze. Mmmm. Call ahead and ask if they're around; they rotated in every couple of weeks when I worked there (more often around holidays when people ordered them for catered parties).

I love those wings, though they are very different from the traditional Buffalo! Can't wait to try the Vindaloo.

Bugsy's in Alexandria makes a good hot wing. Also, when I was in Rehoboth, DE, last year I went to Sir Guy's Restuarant and Pub and they offer a wide range of flavors and spiciness levels (including Scotch Hot for those daredevils out there).

At times, the Capitol Lounge serves good wings. Ssometimes there is BBQ sauce mixed in, which is not good, and sometimes the wings are kinda small, but at times they serve some of the best wings I've had outside of the Upstate NY area.

and here's an interesting factoid about wings: When I went to college in Albany NY in 1990, almost all out staters and many New York City/Long Island/Jersey people had never heard of Buffalo wings, and now they are ubiquitous nationwide. How far the wing has traveled.

In Buffalo I'm partial to wings from a bar called Brennan's. On Transit Boulevard, a mile or so from Buffalo's airport. They serve some of the biggest wings I've seen and the sauce is just right.

Also the Anchor Bar in Buffalo will mail order you wings. Anchor Bar

Gotta get me some wings

  • 1 year later...

I'll be driving through Buffalo next weekend and I'm on a mission to find the best wings. Anchor Bar? Brennan's? Any other suggestions? We'll only have time to hit one place, most likely.
