New Year's Eve BEER!

I know, I know, most purists will usher in the New Year with a bottle of bubbly, but for those of us who appreciate beer, New Year's Eve provides an excellent opportunity to crack open a special bottle of BEER! What will it be for you?

For me, well I have a case of Lindeman's Cuvee Rene (1994 vintage) that will probably see some damage tonight, as well as a bottle of Cantillon Rose de Gambrinus, as a prelude to the midnight toast I will probably savor the flavor and aroma of an old Thomas Hardy's that is stashed in the back of my beer shelf. Oh, boy, I can't wait! I'm getting thirsty as I post this

We'll mostly be drinking from a 5 liter keg of Olde Hickory Christmas Ale that was a gift. The New Year will be rung in with a Malheur Brut Reserve.

AFTER the Champagne we will have Hitachino Nest 'New Year Celebration Ale' form the Kiuchi Brewery in Japan. It is ale brewed with coriander, orange peel, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla beans according to the label. Who knows, it might be good? If we run out of that, we have Asahi 'Super Dry' in liter cans brewed in Japan not Canada. Next comes Haufbrau Mai Bock and then sleep! -Dick

Great topic idea Bob!

If all goes well, I'll be sipping a small snifter of 1994 Samuel Adams Triplebock, given to me by good beer buddy Mike Gates, bless his generous heart. Then maybe (maybe), I toast the new year with a glass of 1998 Perrier-Joet La Fleur champagne.

Wine with my dinner, but I may crack open one of my 86 Thomas Hardy's at some point in the evening. If I can't bear to open it, then I'll pick something from my holiday mix case.

The 'Celebration Ale' was not bad. My brother-in-law is an excellent home brewer with computer controlled equipment. The interesting thing is that he produces ale with the same type of tastes as the 'Celebration Ale' without flavorings! -Dick

For me it ended up being Portland Brewing's MacTarnahan's Blackwatch Bourbon Porter.

I still have yet to get ahold of some of this. Although I have tried their Mac Frost which is really fine.

for me it was champagne and a beaumes de venise muscat. tonight I rang in the new year again ;-) with Bosteels Deus and a '96 Drappier and some Prager Aria.
