Tommy, a must is Spikes in Point Pleasant...a dive seafood joint that all the locals know about and flock too...gets mobbed on the weekends...it is a fish market as well as a BYO restaurant(you can get package goods just across the street at Tesauros)...killer lobster sandwich served on a hot dog roll for lunch and all their fish is very fresh and well prepared...I like Rockafellas at the inlet in Point as well...casual above average Italian/Seafood.

awesome lamb.

we'll be dressed in shorts.  that ok with these places?

Shorts would be fine.

Spikes in PP Bis OK, but Reds is better (on the inlet, next to Shrimp Box which is yucky). It is VERY small, however. You might be ok this weekend. Rockafellas is ok too, as per Rock. I know that you mentioned Used To Be previously. As of two or so years ago it was there, but I don't know about now. I think I remember hearing that the restaurant attached to it on the other side had changed hands, but I don't remember if it included UTB. Damn memory loss - too much alcohol! :raz:

Capt'n Ed's is ok if you want steak on a stone. You can get a tshirt that says "I got stoned at Captn Eds"

See you on the Boards!

spikes used to be great. last few meals have been more than disappointing. was there on tuesday and it was lousy.

they recently re-did the mill in sping lake heights. i was not impressed with food but they have a nice bar on the lake.

i have had great meals at mahogony grill. there is very goood thai in manasquan. siam garden in a trip mall next to the train station. there is foy's in pt. he is one of the brotheres that had le delice (?) in ho hokus back in the eighties. very very good but without a doubt the smallest entree i have ever encountered.

another great one is moonstruck in asbury.

I second the Boradway as a bar/casual restuarant. I would also pick Red's over Spikes. If you want some Lobster to take home, checkout Point Lobster Co. near Southside Marina. Cheapest, though not cheap, in the area.

well, we ended up hitting the following:

frankie's in PPB. i love this place. had some clams and oysters

Broadway. this used to be an old-man's/fisherman's bar when i lived down there. now it's a little nicer, but still pretty dumpy (during the day at least).

The Off Shore. this place has been here at least 20 years. seems they've remodeled. they have a pretty good bar pie, but the wine list is sad.

Jenks. it was raining and there was not a soul on the boardwalk. my friend had some crab claws for some reason, and they were bad. really bad. we couldn't get the smell out of our minds for days.

martells. the front bar was open, and dead of course.

the Ark. another favorite that i stop at whenever in town.

something that used to be called "the blue whale" or something like that (behind burger king on 35 south). pretty much a locals place, still.

westside tavern. point boro. right over the bridge on 88. i forget what this used to be called. however, i believe the building is a historic landmark, so they had to build around it when they built that bridge back in 79 or whatever it was. hopping place with a lot of young locals.

idle hour. point boro on 88. this place has been here for years as well. definitely still a locals place.

the sawmill in seaside. great pizza at this place. surprisingly jumping for a rainy night when the rest of the boardwalk was closed.

bum rogers was closed.

berkeley was open.

the next day bum's was open. the bartender was shucking some clams in front of us, and boom, that smell from the night before came back to haunt us. bad clams. damn that's a disgusting smell. it reminded me of why i didn't eat seafood until my 20's. growing up "down the shore" i was subjected to miles of rotting, fly infested fish on the beach every day. and it smelled just like that.

top of the mast. the bartender was pulling out some crabs, which were clearly from at the very least the night before (and since it had been raining for 3 weeks straight, maybe from 3 weeks before), and we told him the story of our 2 hits of bad seafood. he smelled the crabs and threw them right in the garbage. i think we saved someone's life.

went on that slingshot ride on the boardwalk at seaside. damn, that's one awesome ride. and also another "premium" ride that was like a big ferris wheel with only one car. this thing must have gone around in a circle at 100 mph. it was quite amazing.

made our way to the tiki bar. pretty crowded. had some fried food, as we didn't want to chance anything raw. lots of drunk and strange people there. we had a nice time giving everyone nicknames and commenting on their actions. one middle-aged fellow who was dancing with himself a la an SNL skit was particularly entertaining. and then the "dancing broad" who was dancing with anything and everything that would pay attention to her was quite amusing. this is what lonely guys do when ladies won't talk to them.

looked for lamb at the sushi bar several times, but had no idea what she looked like, so that wasn't very successful.

stopped in at what is now called "stretch's" on broadway. this used to be a faux-irish place. now it's just a normal bar, which means it's the same but without green walls. seemed like a fun young crowd.

it was a long coupla days as you might imagine.

thanks for the recs!

I was looking for you too Friday nite! :raz: Our kids got settled in reasonably early, so my hubby and I were at the sushi bar around 8:00.

The Tiki Bar looked pretty dead at that time, guess it was early.

Saw a guy sitting at the sushi bar with a woman, for a fleeting moment, thought it might be you (from the pics posted earlier at American Grill) only saw the back of your head in those. But the guy at the bar was drinking some blue concotion in a beer mug, so figured it wasn't you.

I headed out to walk back home about 9:00 - was done for the night. How sad am I??

Didn't go out to eat this weekend as our condo was celebrating the "renters" leaving with a party on Sat night. Entertained by a kick ass band that has played at Broadway called Dynamic Duo. They were great. But damn, the boards were packed on Saturday. Everyone came down to see the 10' waves. Too bad you didn't get to Tardi's. One of my favs down that way.

We'll be down again in 2 weeks for the seafood festival. Will get there early (10 amish) to beat the crowds.

Can't beat life down at the beach.

Edited because I'm tired and can't spell

lamb, does your husband look like an allman brother?

That made me laugh out loud

My roman catholic Italian M-I-L would have said many novenas if he looked like an Allman Bro.

Can't think of anyone famous he resembles, unless some mafia guys in the news lately count for famous. :raz:

Saw you said you hit the Ark while you were in PPB. I've stopped going since I don't like the musty smell that seems to permeate the entire restaurant. Have they taken care of that?

Frankie's is great too. Even better off season.

i only ask because there was a couple at the sushi bar (one of 2 as i recall), and the dude had really long hair. we figured it could have been you guys, and refered to him as "the allman brother" during subsequent trips out there to try to find you.

the ark didn't seem to smell of anything but beer. although i wasn't paying that much attention, as i was so caught up in the moment.

Geez, I'm sorry if you spent your night at Martells trying to find me.

I really should have thought to at least put out a descrip of me earlier - not thinking. If you plan on being down again just post and we'll plan to officially meet over a drink at the Tiki Bar.

I was sitting at the sushi bar in front of the chefs, had my back to the boardwalk, facing the Tiki Bar and the chefs. Italian-looking hubby (whats left of his hair is short), I'm blue-eyed with light, short hair, had on a yellow t-shirt with a pair of jeans. Both in our 40's. Had Corona's with lots of sushi (my face could have been red from the wasabi!)

A family with mom/dad and about 5 blonde haired kids were at the sushi bar directly across from us, facing the boardwalk. Didn't think that was you :raz:

We were there btw 8-9 - sorry to have missed you.
