NJ e-gulleter going to PIT to visit friends for weekend in Sept. Have heard good things about Cafe Allegro - comments, suggestions for other spots appreciated.

Thanks.

Any particular kind of food you're after? Here are a few places I'd recommend, in the moderate

to expensive price range:

Soba - pan-Asian

Casbah - Mediterranean

Fajita Grill - Mexican

Koto Buki - Japanese

Baum Vivant - Portuguese/French

You would probably want to get reservations at all of these, although Baum Vivant is probably the

only one that would require more than a two-day notice. Koto Buki is way up in the North Hills, so

that could be a haul depending on where you'll be staying.

On the other end of the price spectrum, if you're looking for grease, FatHeads has the best wings in the city (sorry, Quaker Steak and Lube), and if you're looking for a coronary, give the Reuben Kielbasa a try.

If you're looking for a good beer selection, FatHeads is good, but SharpEdge has the best selection in

the city.

Enjoy your visit!

We've been to Soba - a few years ago - very good. We've also been to Fatheads (for burgers, etc); have not heard of Sharp Edge, though, so maybe we'll stop by for a beer.

Not looking for any particular kind of food - just good & something other than the usual "burgh" cuisine. We're staying in Carnegie so it's pretty central to just about anywhere.

Thanks for your recommendations!

Does Quaker Steak have a Pittsburgh are location? That could be worth a detour...

Apparently it's easier still to dictate the conversation and in effect, kill the conversation.

Since you are staying in Carnegie, you could head down to Sullivan's Pour House right on the main street in Carnegie. Little Irish pub serving, well, pub grub. They pour a great pint and their food is quite tasty.

Not far from Carnegie you have an excellent Indian restaurant called Namaste. I highly recommend that. Or if you want some Thai food, take a look at Angkor in Green Tree. Also close, and one of my favorites (especially if you can get a seat outside) is Il Pizzaiolo.

Those are all just South Hills places that you should be able to get to within 5-10 minutes of Carnegie.

Quaker Steak has a location in Robinson Township along with all the other urban sprawl that has sprawled out there. Good chance if you ask "Does Pittsburgh have a [insert restaurant here]?" it can be answered with "Yep, there's one in Robinson." I'm pretty sure you can get Lube wings at PNC Park these days too.
