Several years ago I was a disaster in the kitchen. I used to joke that I could burn water (I did ruin a few pots, letting the water boil away).

 

It's sort of embarrassing to admit, but my life was changed when we got cable. I didn't care for most of the cooking shows, but Good Eats really interested me, particularly the science behind cooking. As soon as I started learning the science, I started learning to cook. We ditched the cable eventually, but I'm still cooking and still learning.

 

I really love learning to various ethnic foods, particularly Indian, Thai and Mexican. In fact, I ended up here by googling "asafetida".
