Mushy, wet pepper stuck in grinder

Recommended Posts

We had some cleaning people in today who somehow got the pepper in the mill wet and it's stuck. Any thoughts on how to extricate? Not a high faulting grinder, but somewhat sentimental.

Thanks

You just have to let it dry out, then it should work again (this happens to me quite often...).

Will try. Just as is?

Thanks

If your grinder comes apart then open it up so the air can get in. Then just stick it in a dry place!

Okay. Took apart what was possible, will now wait. Thanks.

Put some dry rice through it along with a teaspoon of baking soda. That should get the little nooks and crannies clean and dry.

If there is some residual rice and soda, it won't affect the flavor of the pepper. (Been there, done that.)

If you have one that is wood and the wood got soaked, filling it with corn starch and leaving it in a warm dry place for a couple of days will allow the corn starch to pull the moisture out of the wood.

I have had this experience - dropped a wood pepper grinder into a pot of new potatoes as they were just beginning to boil.

"There are, it has been said, two types of people in the world. There are those who say: this glass is half full. And then there are those who say: this glass is half empty. The world belongs, however, to those who can look at the glass and say: What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass!" Terry Pratchett

Thank goodness for egulleters. You realize that you were not the first to screw something up and others have ideas/solutions.
