Bars in Midtown East

I'm looking for somewhere to have a drink or two before dinner at Aquavit. Is there anything particularly interesting somewhere nearby that you'd recommend. TIA.

I get to the city once or twice a year and I have no idea where Aquavit is. But when I hear bar and midtown east I become fixated on the Four Seasons.

if you want hip and rooftop the Kimbelry Hotel ( 50th / 3rd) has a fun bar on it's roof. It has indoor and outdoor seating beautiful views, and a retractable roof.
