Hello again,

last week I've been searching the internet for liquor stores in The Netherlands that have a nice collection of rums.

Well, to be short: none on the net.

But several shop advertise with how many whiskey's they have, so I wrote to some of them, complementing them with their whiskey's and asking how their rum collection was.

So far I got one reply:

Rum nation:

Panama 18 jaar 43.50

Demerara 18 jaar 51.95

Demerara 26 jaar 94.95

Jamaica Supreme lord 26 jaar 94.95

Malecon 12 jaar 20.00

Malecon 21 jaar 39.50

Malecon 25 jaar 49.50

Appleton Estate 21 jaar 52.50

Appleton VX 18.50

Eldorado 12 jaar 21.50

Eldorado 15 jaar 33.50

Mathusalem 15 jaar 27.95

Additional information: jaar means year, and the price is in euro's.

Can someone give some more information about the Rum nation items? They are very expensive, as you can see, and I wonder, are they worth the prices mentioned?

Thanks,

John

Hi John,

Never heard about the first 7 rums. For the rest (Appleton, El Dorado and Mathusalem) I can tell you that the prices are really Ok (compared to prices in Germany).

From Appleton I only know the Estate Extra (it's in the middle of the 2 you mentioned). And this is quite OK. In a few weeks I will buy a the 21 yo. Than I can tell more.

Both El Dorados are definitely worth every Cent!!!!!

And also Mathusalem. A bit light for a 15 yo with a strong vanilla note but very nice.

Bye

Hi John,

In Holland there are not many shop that sell good rum. In amsterdam there is Cave Rokin (on the Rokin near damsquare) and in Venlo there is Joep Dielen (near the city hall).

I know the owner of Cave Rokin. If you want a certain rum, and he is able to get it, I can arange it for you.

By the way, your list of El Dorado is not complete. There is a new one on the Dutch market now (sorry, not in USA yet). a 21 year old. Great spirit for a good price (I tasted it with the importer for Europe). Funny thing is I don't know the Malecon. Shouldn't it be Macouba? Did they tell you where to get this Rum? please let me know. I collect information about all the rums that are available in the Netherlands

For any question about rum in the Netherlands, I can help you. I life in Koog aan de Zaan (north of Amsterdam) and was twice a judge on Rum Fest in Barbados (couldn't go this year to Newfoundland, perhaps next year)

I have many rums, and am looking for partners to taste them and rate them. After that I want to start a Rumsite where people can find information about all kinds of rum.

Best regards,

rene

The more information, the better.

I strongly reccomend not to buy Malecon of any age, they are absolutely not worth the money you pay, a real disappointment.

I have tried two of the Rum Nation's product , the Demerara 18 and 26yo, they are not bad, but a little overpriced I think.

Do not hesitate on Eldorados ,Appletons and Mathusalem, they certainly are a shure bet.

For Rene

Malecon is exported in Europe by Caribbean Spirit inc. of Panama, but apparently they are not producers but "negociants", they blend and bottle only, and in my personal opinion with scarce results.

Thanks everyone for the reactions.

I will keep my hands from the Malecon, and go for the Appleton first. That one hasn't been in my collection yet, and your reviews of it are quite good.

So Appleton first, and than on another occasion maybe Rum Nation out of curiosity.

Rene, thanks for the adresses! I will check them out!

John
