I was sorry to get an email announcement yesterday that Astral Plane has closed for good, and their building is up for sale.

While the service could be (extremely) spotty (especially during brunch) and the food perhaps not cutting edge these days, I will always have very fond memories of the place and some of the great times I had there. My sweetie and I had one of our first dates at Astral Plane and it's still one of the most romantic evenings I can remember.

Anyway, here's the text of the announcement...

1973-2007

12, 376 Nights and off!

Since  Astral Plane first opened it's doors on June 14, 1973; we  have served you, the dining public, a total of 12 ,376 nights!

We  would like to thank all of our guests from  Philadelphia  and all points beyond, for allowing us the privilege of serving  you all these years.

The  Astral Plane Restaurant is closed for business and now becomes a  part of  Philadelphia  restaurant history. Thanks for the memories we have shared and all  of the great occasions we have celebrated together!

The  properties at 1706 and  1708 Lombard Street  are for sale!

These two buildings have 32 feet of prime  Lombard Street  frontage.

3300 sq. ft. on the first, second and third floors with an 1100  square feet basement.

Liquor license available.
