You'll drive yourself crazy asking those kind of questions. Food Network...why have cooking shows by Patricia Heaton and Valerie Bertinelli? Really?

I was surprised to see many free Kindle cookbooks for the Instant Pot and the Air Fryer. Who knew they were so popular?

I spotted an "Ugly Christmas Sweater" Cookie kit on Amazon and realized that the shape of the sweaters look a lot like an old Bell-shaped cutter that we use when making our yearly Xmas Sugar cookies.. I've already emailed my niece that we're going to try to make ugly sweaters next year. We've finally started using icing tip couplers though we didn't swap tips this year. File that under "DOH!" I did order some extra thick disposable pastry bags this year (that worked out great) because the disposable bags we used last year split on the seams when we were trying to decorate our cookies. Lesson learned!

Cheesy Tots are returning to Burger King for a limited time: "Napoleon Dynamite and Pedro announce Burger King's Cheesy Tots"

One of my earliest memories was when I was 4 years old, sitting on the front seat of my parent's station wagon by myself ( ! It was a different era) while my mom went to deliver a casserole dish of baked beans (pork and beans doctored up with brown sugar, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, etc, and topped with strips of bacon that had me drooling at such a young age) to a family who had just come back from a funeral. I don't recall much from that time but the sight of the browned bacon floating on that sea of baked beans is still vivid after all these years. My condolences to all of you who have suffered a loss.

I'm snacking on original recipe Chex Mix which we always make a couple days after Thanksgiving. My mom (and now me) always makes a Tupperware "vat" (5 qt., 20-cups) of it. Here's a pic of the Tupperware container we use that I found on the interweb: We refill it a couple of times, too! Good stuff, Maynard!

And did you see the prices for the smaller 5 qt. version and the larger 8 qt. version? WTF? Very strange that the smaller version should cost so much more.

Thank you for the link. I have not read it but, being from San Diego, I am familiar with most of his story. He did have a temper. When the San Diego Padres (pro baseball) played their fist game, he got on the P.A. system after the game and apologized to the public for how badly the players had played. His wife Joan ran McD's after Ray had passed. She was a kind and generous woman with quite the opposite temperament from Ray.

Hmmm, that's interesting My mom mainly fries bacon in her cast iron skillet to keep it seasoned and that pan is "pert-near" non-stick these days. Of course, this is after 55 years of use.

No...no tossing. Your suggestions for embellishing the bread sound good to me. The simplest and easiest thing would be to make a trifle from it.You can also take part of the bread and crumble it onto a baking sheet and bake it again until crisp/crunchy...sort of like quick bread croutons used on top of a lemon curd, pudding or other desserts.

You could try serrano peppers instead of jalapeños...they tend to be dependably hotter.

Not available at McD's...yet. There is a small fast food chain called Rubio's (click) that started in San Diego. They were the first to feature fish tacos (we're talking 30 years ago) and fed many a starving college student (back when their fish tacos were far less expensive than they are today). I see by the Locations section of their web site that they're in Colorado and Utah now. Not sure about Montana.

My aunt would always make pork roast and sauerkraut (a dish from Bohemia) at Thanksgiving along with the roast turkey. Having grown up eating the dish, I didn't give it a second thought as being out of place at the holiday table. Thanks for the link to the story. It was very life reaffirming for me.

It's not like it's going to be wait-service...at least that's what I'm perceiving from the various articles I've read about this. It sounds like it will be more like the table service you get at Carl's Jr./Hardee's. You order and then go sit in the dining area and when your order is ready an employee brings it to your table. McD's...always on the cutting edge of yesterday.

It's funny that the man has had so many jobs in the last few years. If I received his resumé, I'd question why the guy couldn't hold a job very long!

Brilliant marketing? Or file this under "WTF"? "McDonald's Is FINALLY Bringing Back The McRib" I enjoy the occasional McRib but there's no way in hell I am going to download an app just to find out where it's being sold.

I found these two photos interesting, Regarding dim sum, I always heard you never get a 4-count of any item since the word for "Four" sounds too much like the word for "Death" in the Chinese language yet here you are with a couple dishes of four items. Is it just an old wives tale, perhaps?

I use rubber bands. One on the top part and one on the body of the mill. No slippage at all.

Yes to this. With the cover off, it allows for larger/faster heat dissipation. You shouldn't let it remain out of refrigeration past 2 hours (food handling 101). You could also transfer the roast to a plastic bag, seal it/zip it, then submerge that in an ice bath which eliminates the container needing to be cooled before the roast cools. edited for clarity

I'm with gfweb...what the heck is a bosom caresser? errrr...Someone we know? Or perhaps a different kind of booze...which would make it a "booze-um caresser". edited for clarity

Many of the local Basque restaurants have communal tables and have had them for many decades. Everything old is new again...

It's ironic that the Fresh & Easy chain went bust here in the States. Half of the store, I kid you not, consisted of pre-made meals/dishes. They'd make a killing in today's cuisine-to-go culture.

Perhaps God is compensating you with zukes this year for your decimated tomato crop. Time to look for more unlocked vehicles.

Holiday cookbooks on sale. Aimed at the fans of Southern Cooking and the ilk (yes, including tons of Paula Deen cookbooks): "Hoffman Media Store Holiday sale" Hmmm...I just noticed that the prices are quite a bit cheaper through my link than if you went through the company website yourself and found the Holiday section on your own. Enjoy the lower prices, folks and yer welcome. I do not have any of these books so I cannot testify as to their quality. Just thought I would pass the sale along.
