  1. Two by David Tanis (who worked with Alice Waters): David Tanis "A Platter of Figs and Other Recipes" Kindle Edition $2.51US David Tanis "Heart of the Artichoke and Other Kitchen Journeys" Kindle Edition $2.51US This is from a well known Canadian restaurant I have never heard of before: "The Art of Living According to Joe Beef: A Cookbook of Sorts" Kindle Edition $2.99US British Pub Food: Gordon Ramsay’s "Great British Pub Food" Kindle Edition $4.99US Indian food: Denise D'silva Sankhé "Beyond Curry Indian Cookbook: A Culinary Journey Through India" Kindle Edition $2.99US

  3. The dimensions were listed further down the product page: Size: 21.5x6x4cm
  4. Slater's 50/50 can't really be classified as fast food. I've been there and had to wait a hellava long time to get the customized burger I ordered (lesson learned...never order a customized burger...which is supposed to be one the features at Slater's. Next time I will order whatever is already on the menu). Plus, they serve a kabillion beers on tap, ranging from Big Beers (Michelob, et al) to craft/IPA beers. That ain't a fast food joint. I'm just sayin'... edited for spelking
  5. I say cut across the grain. Don't worry if the strips are too short to coil into a "burger patty" shape. You can always wind another strip starting where the previous one left off, repeat this until you get the desired size of "patty". If you're worried it might fall apart, a long wooden skewer (or two) can hold it altogether until after it's cooked.
  6. Both books have very good reviews: Alexandra Stafford "Bread Toast Crumbs: Recipes for No-Knead Loaves & Meals to Savor Every Slice" Kindle Edition $2.99US "Me, Myself and Pie - Amish Recipes (The Pinecraft Collection)" Kindle Edition $3.99US *Note: There was one review that mentioned poor editing in some of the recipes. I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  7. Steer clear of armadillos, dead or alive (click).
  8. @Shelby, can you ask any old folks around your area? Others might have painted plates, as well, and might remember better... Thank you @andiesenji, for the enlightening information. The plates look very familiar to me, as well. Now I just have to figure out where I've seen them!
  9. I've had the sugar cookie dough "crust" topped with sweetened cream cheese and the sliced fruit. Didn't care for it as I thought it was far too sweet. Why not just give me the fruit and some lightly sweetened whip cream or some sugar cookie "bars/fingers" on the side? Also, in the versions I've had, the sugar cookie "crust" was always too thick, like a sugar cookie on steroids, which made it difficult to cut through. Your mileage may vary...
  10. D'Artagnan (click) is currently having a 15% off sale on their "Roasting" collection.
  11. I'd say "no". I think to be labelled "craft" you have to make your beer in quantities small enough that it's possible you could run out of it. I don't think Karl Strauss could qualify for that. It's ironic that craft beers can become so successful that they expand and eventually become too large to be called "craft" beers any longer. I think Samuel Adams is a good illustration of this.
  12. I was aware of this. As I wended my way through my daily Kindle ecookbooks offerings, I kept seeing a notice that I could pre-order his new cookbook. Since it was not what I considered a "deal", I didn't post about it. He appeared on the syndicated Rachael Ray TV show this week looking completely out of place, replete with his bow tie, while promoting his new cookbook and TV show.
  13. Michael Symon's "5 in 5: 5 Fresh Ingredients + 5 Minutes = 120 Fantastic Dinners" Kindle Edition $2.99US A lot of Amazon reviewers of this book were shocked (shocked! I tell you) that the recipes actually take longer than 5 minutes to prepare and cook. Insert your favorite PT Barnum quote here... I am a US Prime member and your price may vary.
  14. "Burned-out French chef gives back Michelin stars" It's happened before (as mentioned in the article). So how commonplace is this stress to maintain the stars? It's be interesting to find out if all the other starred restaurants share in this peculiar "misery".
  15. I'm curious...How does the fat(butter)-to-flour ratio compare in this recipe to the ratio in other more successful cookie recipes? I know the higher the amount of fat, the more likely the cookie will spread (see any Irish Lace Cookie recipe for an example of this). Your "melted" cookies are a puzzle indeed.
  16. Dale DeGroff's "The Craft of the Cocktail: Everything You Need to Know to Be a Master Bartender, with 500 Recipes" Kindle Edition $2.99US I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  17. This has been on sale for quite some time...it's from last year's series: "Great British Bake Off - Perfect Cakes & Bakes To Make At Home: Official tie-in to the 2016 series" Kindle Edition $0.99US Through the "Take a peek inside" feature, I could see the recipes are in grams/liters, which may put off some US readers. Joanne Chang's "Flour: A Baker's Collection of Spectacular Recipes" Kindle Edition $2.99US She's the owner of the Boston bakery Flour. She also has a sequel cookbook called "Flour, too" which has a mix of sweet and savory recipes (though that book is not currently on sale). I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  18. If you can afford it, why not? Better to have two ovens and not use the second one than to need two ovens and not have them both. My mom would have killed for a second oven when making holiday meals. She's a stickler for everything timed to be ready to eat (and hot) at the same time but with one oven, that's a pipe dream.
  19. My mom rarely cooks these days but when she uses her Corningware on the stove, she always uses the handles. The biggest issue for her is some of the handles fit only certain pieces of the Corningware. The length of the existing physical handles on the dishes determines which of the add-on handles will work and which won't.

  22. I read an online article this morning that suggested one of the reasons Amazon bought Whole Foods was due to Amazon Prime. Amazon will introduce in-store Whole Foods benefits to Amazon Prime members, thus, hopefully encouraging more customers to become Amazon Prime members. Jeff Bezos may know what he's doing after all, eh?

@Kim Shook I found that very same tube of cream corn at my new local Walmart Neighborhood Grocery Store. It's in the frozen veggies section of the store. They had the regular and the white corn. Good to know it's an edible product! You might look for it in your local Super Walmart that has groceries.
  24. Received in my BookBub email this morning...from a Food TV host: Marcela Valladolid "Fresh Mexico: 100 Simple Recipes for True Mexican Flavor" Kindle Edition $1.99US I am a US Prime member and the price you see might vary.
