Last I heard it's in the Rio but (supposedly) not quite as good as the original. Adding the $40 + for the roundtrip cab ride kinda spoiled an otherwise perfect dinner. I didn't care for Aureole either. Amazing, I don't think I've heard/read any good review of that restaurant....

I haven't limited my choices to any specific cuisine. Here's the group that interests me the most, so far: Bouchon FIX Bradley Ogden Nobhill Rosemary's ( on Sahara) Michael Mina Aqua Aquanox Bradley Ogden: One of the best...but VERY $$$$$$$$$ Rosemary's (if you have a car) is long drive ($40 roundtrip in a cab!) so that's something to consider. Never had anything but great seafood at Aqua/Michael Mina Nobhill was good but didn't knock my socks off

I know one place that most people talk about is the Buffet at the Bellagio, so that takes care of one night. I'd like to plan on one more" not too expensive" place and two nice dinners. I was there a few years back and dined at at Olives, Aureole, and Circo. Also need a suggestion for a good show...Been to Danny Gans and "O", and this time will be catching Celine Dion's show on Friday Night. Another less expensive one would be great. Need to have some money left to gamble .. :-) FIAMMA at the MGM is sort of middle-range price (hard to know what your spending parameters are) and really good Italian food. Not quite so good as Circo but I've enjoyed it a few times. For the 'nice dinners'...how about telling us your preferences....French, Italian, Steak, Eclectic Tasting Menu...and a ballpark of what you'd expect the meal to cost.... Based on the the shows you've seen I think you might enjoy Penn and Teller (I think they are at the Rio but not sure) or Rita Rudner (NYNY). If you're familiar with George Carlin's work and he's in town you might consider....though be fore-warned...his material (though hilarious) is not for those who require G-rated entertainment. Those three shows are not terribly expensive...but anyone like Elton John or the other Cirque shows get quite pricey.

****************************** Yep, I've read only rave-reviews...thus my surprise at the Fare Start Dinner -
________________________________________________________ Thanks SeAAtle...I appreciate your encouraging reply. We're going on Wed. and I'll write up our experience. Unfortunately I'm terrible at remembering the details of those multi-course dinners...which is why I try to swipe a menu if possible...LOL

We have reservations next week at Rover's to celebrate my birthday. My inclination for special dinners is to go to places that I KNOW I'll like...so it would have been easy to pick Cascadia or Lampreia but we haven't been to a really good French restaurant here so my husband wants to give it a go. Just wondering if anyone has dined there recently and has any menu suggestions....Must or Mustn't Haves... Thanks so much !!!

[SEA] Fare Start Guest Chef Nights in Septempter

My first Fare Start dinner and on the plus side was the pleasure of dining with some terrific eG folks....the negative was the idea that a few small bites of food could possibly constitute a dinner. Yes, I had to have a snack when I got home too. While I appreciate and congratulate any chef who donates his time and money to a great cause it can backfire and create a negative impression unless it's done right. -
**************************************************** I love an eG consensus of opinion! Thanks everyone...

Thanks, dougary/elswinger but for this quick trip into Seattle I'd like to stick to a downtown location.

I enjoy sushi but haven't really explored great places in Seattle as yet. My daughter is coming to visit and she read some good stuff on a world-wide sushi website...or some such thing. For a 'walking distance from the ferry restaurant" is Shiro one that you'd recommend? THANKS

P.S. I'm a huge fan of the chef now as when my friend and I asked for a cab to be called he came to the door and said he'd walk us out. No cab in sight he proceeded to whistle one down...across the street with no intention of making a u-turn. Scott literally walked us to the cab...had a nice chat with him along the way...he's way cool in my book !

YES, I ate there just a week or so ago...had the Tomato Tasting Menu....fantastic!! Is this the menu you had?

I think we're talking about two different issues... Of course I'm very appreciative when a server subtly or not subtly waves me off a dish that he/she knows will be disappointing.... I'm talking about servers who feel the need to tell me quail is a small game bird.... or that vicchysoise (I'm too lazy to check the spelling) is a cold soup...that sort of comment comes across as the server's judgement that I've just fallen off the turnip truck.....
-
This has been one of my 'disappointments' in many Seattle restaurants. There seems to be an assumption that the diner needs the menu explained. If I have a question I will ask.....it's a little insulting when the server decides he/she needs to tell me what something like...oh say Arctic Char is...DUH And, no, this doesn't happen all the time...but often enough.

That was me and we're looking forward to returning this winter to enjoy the view by night...should be very romantic. Yep, I thought the food/service was the real-deal. -
Yes, I'm definitely a girl (foodie GIRL) being the tip-off..... It was one of those rare evenings when I didn't need to powder my nose...but my husband did and was pointed in the right direction.... Boy, I wish I'd known how great El Gaucho was...I woulda bought more of those KIRO gift certificates.....

And I am literally wiping the drool off my shirt. What a GREAT write-up on a restaurant that is a real stand-out in Seattle.

Italian Food and Wine in Seattle

Isn't it amazing the differences in experiences we can have at the same restaurant.... We are definitely not in the 'old boy network' and order something very moderate from the wine list but I find it a very upbeat and professionally-run restaurant. They make a terrific ravioli...filled with lamb shank as I remember...YUM -

I love Il Terrazzo Carmine ! (that's probably where you heard it, tighe)...LOL I've been three times...great service and atmosphere. I felt as though I were in Italy.
