  1. Well, I haven't stayed there myself so I can't speak for the rooms...maybe they are dark and creepy...LOL
  2. ***I think if you go to caesarspalace.com and then on to the dining link there is a blurb I think.

  4. Sound like it all worked out int he end with the Blackjack....of course mine was the other way around, ate for free but had to feed the slots an equal amount! Did you eat at Mesa Grill by chance? ***Yep, definitely successful trip! No I haven't tried Mesa Grill yet....WOW it is a beautiful restaurant though. Maybe next time. I am dying to get back to Vegas, I think I am going to try and stay at the Orleans this time. They just built a new tower and its set back from the strip so you can get a good view of the strip. I was not pleased with the crappy view from my room at Caesers....all I could see was the pool and that new tower under construction! ***I also love Vegas and go a few times a year. Sometimes Paris or Aladdin have very inexpensive rooms and good Strip views. I stayed at Paris for Millenium New Years Eve and had a fantastic view looking out at the Eiffel Tower and strip. If you do another low-roller trip Bourbon Street can be very cheap and is just a couple blocks off the strip (-:
  5. Hey Chris! I can't remember the name of the young chef who showed me around....spikey black hair...a few piercings.. Yes, the Kobe WAS incredible..but then the entire meal was fantastic. Wish I had "connections" like you and didn't have to shell out all that money...but I did very well at the blackjack tables so it ended up to be a free meal.....LOL
  6. Well, little ms foodie, you've got plenty of time to research your trip and narrow the field ! Happy Eating !!
  7. There were three tasting menus (5, 7 or 9 courses ) in addition to the ala carte menu. We had the 7 course which was priced at $135 per person but we added the Triple Seared Kobe Beef which brought it up to $150. per person. We had cocktails and bottle of white wine (about $60 as I recall) and I had an additional glass of red wine ($18.00) With tax and gratuity you can do the math...((-: Hey...you asked ((-: That said, when we go next time we'll probably opt for the 5 course tasting menu which, I believe was $110 per person. My only mistake in ordering was the expensive (for me anyway) glass of red wine. I thought I 'needed' it to go with the Kobe Beef but, in retrospect, I could have skipped it. Bye the way...on my first visit I had the 9-course tasting menu and even that didn't seem like too much food. The portions are not large and I love the entire 'experience' so much that I would definitely go for a tasting menu rather than ordering ala carte and being in and out the door too quickly. Hope I've been helpful.
  8. Just returned home after a week in Las Vegas and (other than feeling I've gained a few pounds) can say that, with the exception of one bad lunch, all our meals were fantastic. Having too much fun to keep track of all the dishes through the week but here are a few impressions. Re-visited some old favorites and tried a few new ones. EMERILS'S FISH HOUSE: Still can say it's one of my favorites in Las Vegas. The room has been re-designed and quite exquisite. A very loud and fun place with terrific service and food. Texas Red Fish...YUM !!! PRIME: For someone with a big appetite this is a great steakhouse choice but, once again, my eyes were bigger than my stomach and I could barely finish half of the Double Lamb Chops and our sides of Tuscan Fries and Creamed Spinach. We split an Heirloom Tomatoe/Maytag Blue Cheese salad and it was still a huge amount. I think I'm done with PRIME...no matter what I order it's always too much food and I leave feeling absolutely stuffed. The Palm: There were three of us for this dinner and my husband and friend shared a 5 pound lobster (I had a few bites) and I ordered Prime Rib which I shared with both of them. It's straight-forward food with very professional and efficient service. Love this place! BRADLEY OGDEN: Probably the most expensive dinner we've had in the USA...maybe even in France now that I think about it....but WOW is it an experience. We did the 7-Course Tasting Menu and, after mentioning my love of cooking, was treated to a tour of the kitchen. The level of service is beyond words....The head waiters wear suits and have an incredible range of knowledge about each and every course. It is a very classy restaurant without being at all pretentious. Last dinner was at AQUAKNOX and after BRADLEY OGDEN anything would be a bit of a let-down but we enjoyed our meal. The room (yes..it's very blue) is already very loud but with horrible music blasting it gets even worse. I can't even describe the music....all I could hear (and feel) was noise and no melody. The service was a little uneven but the seafood is very, very good. The happy surprise was CRAVINGS....not really a surprise as nighscotsman knows his stuff! We had one breakfast and one lunch and it's a real departure from my usual idea of buffets (something I generally run from in Las Vegas). No long buffet counters but numerous individual 'kitchens' with a wide range of cuisines being freshly prepared. For an amazing value I think CRAVINGS is a wonderful option. It's hard not to over-do as everything we tasted was fantastic.....the desserts....some of the very best I've ever had!
  9. There is a Nobu here, which I've heard is quite good. ***My only Las Vegas sushi-type experience as been at Nobu...maybe 3 or 4 times and I've really enjoyed it. That said, I've ordered the omakase menu both times and those have included more than sushi...think I even had a little fois gras once. So..it's not a sushi restaurant in the classic sense...but very good food! Heading for LAS VEGAS on Sunday.....YIPPEE !!
  10. Ok, I'm in way over my head here...but have quite a few mushrooms growing on my property. I was brought up to think they were all poisonous and to be avoided at all costs. Some of them look mighty tasty. Is there a Cliff's Notes on such mushrooms?? THANKS
  11. heyjude....If we weren't going to be in Las Vegas next week I was definitely up for the Anne Willan dinner. Oct. turned into a busy travel month for us and I know I'm missing some great events...)-:
  12. Our dinner at Maple Drive got off to a bad start (service-wise) and we almost got up and left...but the server explained EVERYONE SHOWED UP AT 7:30 PM and after things got going we were well-taken care of... I wish I could remember what everyone ate...I had a Beet Salad and Loup De Mer...FANTASTIC. One friend had the Hunan Steak which melted in your mouth. Our friends have a huge cellar so they brought the wine and we didn't order dessert...so I can't comment on either. Fortunately we sat in a booth FAR away from the "combo" playing because otherwise we couldn't have had any sort of conversation...and this was on a Thursday night. Overall it was a very nice meal...not terribly expensive by L.A. standards. P.S. Had lunch at ORSO the same day...what a great patio for lunching with the L.A. movers and shakers...(I which I am not one, but my friend is...LOL )
  13. I have a friend who goes every year. Heard it's an amazing event. Guess there is a Chef's Tasting Dinner the following night which is really over-the-top!
  14. Thanks for such a thorough report on Maple Drive. I am really looking forward to our meal ! On our next visit I believe we're going to AOC with our other set of friends...heard that's a winner as well.
  15. Hey, thanks for the tip. I haven't had a chance to read the my new Gourmet...THANKS
  16. ***Thanks russ...I'm looking forward to the experience...just wish someone had some specific recommendations...oh well
  17. Yeah, I don't get it. We've been to Union twice and had poor service both times. Now I KNOW many others have gone and had GREAT service. We'll go again...maybe third time will be the charm and the service will reach the level of the food.
  18. Thanks FoodZealot! Yes, my friends are 'foodies' and usually take us to great L.A. restaurants. Not having been to this one I thought I'd see what others are ordering.
  19. Hello from eG Pacific Northwest We'll be in CA next week visiting family/friends and one dinner has been planned at Maple Drive. If it's awful please don't tell me as our friends made the arrangements and really like it. So...if there is a thread on Maple Drive or anyone as thoughts as what's good/not good to order I'd love to hear from you. Thanks !
  20. I've eaten there twice...most recently about a month ago. The first time...about a year ago I found the food fantastic but the amosphere very subdued. I felt that we practically had to whisper. This last visit I noticed the room was a bit less 'somber'. The chef was notably friendlier (I think I wrote on another post that he came out to the street and helped me flag down a cab ). Overall the atmosphere was just perfect...the service professional...yeah, everything was great. As for the age of the diners....well, I'm not sure what you're calling 'elderly' as I'm in my 50s...maybe you saw me....
  21. The menu for the Julia dinner at Etta's sounds so good....I'm a little leery after reading about your bad experiences...but we'd be game to give it a try if an eG table gets organized. (I always figure there's safety in numbers...LOL )
  22. ***The limos were all busy that night...taking people to Lotus of Siam...LOL In truth I think the person helping me was probably unfamiliar with some of the restaurants off the strip and just knew it required a cab ride. OH and since you're so enthused about FIX we're going to have to find a way to squeeze it into our schedule when we visit next month. Aquaknox may have to be the sacrificial lamb.
  23. $40 for a cab ride? Might as well rent a car - then you could take a nice side trip to Red Rock Canyon (only about 20-30 minutes from the Strip), or Hoover Dam. ***Well yeah if I'd only known. This was awhile ago and the concierge at YOUR hotel said it was a short cab ride. Well it was $20 each way....LOL Live and learn.
  24. I do all my soul-searching at the Red Square (mandalay bay) bar...((-: Hey, Chris..why not do a little low and high roller trip?
