I have never had a problem with ducks. I prick the skin all over with a carving fork and place breast down in a 500 Deg. Oven for 20 Min. Reduce heat to 300 and cook until the breast meat is 140. flip the bird and finish to 160.

Yes! Or the person needs help with a drinking problem.

Why Would anyone do that to a dog? -
All well and good if properly done. But...

The sad thing is you have to have a dual income household now. The days of one person working and the other taking care of the house are gone.
-
some do actually - or used to in the early - mid 90s. It depends on the state. NJ will not in IL they do...
-
Better yet is the following example. In NJ you can get change of under $1.00 on food stamps. So I can’t recall how many times working as a clerk (my second job.) in a convenience store I would se a mother hand a 10 dollar food stamp to one child and have them buy a small item, get change and then send her other children in to buy small items under a buck to then come in with a handful of silver to buy smokes. Nothing you could do about it! Great to watch the system working. This is the stuff that ticks people off.

Granted the system is not perfect and people abuse the system. Hence where a lot of the as you put it “anger” comes from. Part one of the problem would seem to be the system is neither designed to or encourages getting off assistance. So mom and child get to live in the same sort of apartment that I do. They pay 10% to do so. I don’t have a problem with that on the surface. In the same apartment there are several other people that come and go and use the place as a flop. So now my taxes are not just paying for mother and child but all sorts of friends and relatives. They also have every cable service offered. If they are that bad off how can they afford that? Not cool in my book. Some of the direct food surplus programs are flawed but do try and help. The first time I ever saw Cashew butter was not at the store but in a food bank I volunteered at. Heck I’ll take that over peanut butter anytime. But this was a case of government agencies and private business making donations. Not a state run program that mandates what items are purchased and how. I would think that frozen juice concentrate would be better than Juice Juice or any other sugar laden belly wash. Again this is where a lot of people get confused. It’s not giving people that need it help but how they get it. It’s also sad that there are people that need help and can’t get it because they make a little too much or have a little too nice of a car. But others in the system seem to be living a better life. I remember a friend I had growing up. Her family had to hide the phone and other things like the TV when the welfare people came over. How things have changed. The poor in this country are better off than any place else.

My favorite diner in the world is open 24/7 Congratulation on being in the minority in this case. Sure there are some exceptions and I am happy you found one. Unfortunately I don’t see the green and gold joint, the blue and white joint or several other chains being in that group.

Sorry to say it goes deeper than consumerism. In most places WIC mandates what products and the sizes that you can buy. I am not sure of the exact mechanics of the program but I do see little tags next to prices on items in the store indicating they are WIC approved. How they choose what is allowed seems to be more restrictive than food stamps. Sure mom and kids get food but not the most nutritious or economical. Personally I would rather have good staple items to some of the stuff I see people forced to buy that we all pay for.

I would even say there is another factor yet to be brought up. The mistaken idea that the world run on 24/7. Sure 7-11 started out being just open those hours but I have yet to see one closed except in a power failure. I have had clients want assurances that there network be up and running 24/7. Ok, if you’re a large bank or multi-national insurance company this makes sense. Not if you are a landscape architectural firm in Lisle IL. But we are tricked into thinking that should be the accepted practice. Who ever had a 2:00 AM shrubby emergency? It’s great that one of the Home Depots near me is open 24 hours. It was actually quite busy at 1:30 when on a lark I decided to get a gallon of custom blended paint. But for the vast majority of us this is not needed. The real rub was when my wife and I went there on a Saturday afternoon to ask about custom counter tops and where told that we would have to return during the week between the hours of 9-5. Where is the logic in that? So the guys at the big box store (any of them.) seem a bit fanatical about the organization. The same observations have been make at other companies be they IBM, Radio Shack or Kirby Vacuum cleaner. Some people need that sort of environment and while a number of studies have compared them to cults, true though it may be. We don’t produce anything to speak of here in the USA. Why else would Toyota and BMW set up shop to take advantage of “cheap labor.”? Sam Walston became in the end what he was trying to fight in the beginning. Strange how things work out sometimes. Seldom do you se a place that repairs consumer goods. As they are more easily replaced than repaired. How can a part cost more than the unit it is used in? GM came up with that long years ago. Planned obsolescence. So all the guys that used to work in the mills and factories now have to go to the Big Box and where stupid looking vests. We just got what we asked for. We wanted cheaper, faster and longer and got screwed in the process. So back in the late sixties when computers started to be more affordable they where lamented as great time savers that would relive the drudgery. We all would work smarter and have to put in fewer hours. Wrong! Now enter the PC. We where to be able to do more for ourselves in less time. Unfortunately with the factory mind set in most businesses it was seen as a way of getting more work out of fewer people. We all bought into it suckers that we are. Instead of working fewer hours we take the work home and do it there. No additional pay, just the hope that you will keep your job by looking productive. I don’t think the problem is business at all. We allowed ourselves to let this all happen. We invited it and embraced it with open arms. Like the self important brats we where taught to be we look to make excuses and look for others to blame.

I hope it's better than the Vegas one...

That would be my take on it. Used to be able to find it here in Chicago at some of the more odd outlets.

Any place open 24/7.

We just had that happen at a Greek place down town. When we spoke to the manager he said (I wish I was making this up.)"What do you expect? We are in a hotel building." The head office has yet to call us back about the issue. Customer service at its finest.

It looks more like a butchers chopping block than a cutting board. You might want to try some of the restaurant supply places. They have different sizes and sometimes in colors to match the kitchen.

High gluten flour is the key. Also make sure the mineral content of the water is low. At least a 24 hour cold rest of the dough and work the dough at room temp to make the pie.

Lest we forget Sabrett Hot Dogs!

Still the question begs to be asked. In other cases involving chemical companies and health risks there is a bit of a pattern. Lack or regard for workers or the environment seems to be a recurring theme. You do have the factor of people looking to place blame to even out this little equation. Somewhere in the middle the truth lays rotting.

I guess you did not watch 20/20 they went over several. Hence the segment, they have known for a long time the adverse effects on birds. PTFE is made by heating Freon until it forms a particulate. Interesting enough phosgene gas is mad in a similar fashion.
-
Any teflon or PTF could be harmful to birds.

This is turning into a warped version of The emperors New Robes. While some valid points have been entered by both camps this it seems to digress into a morass of snobbery from both ends. It seems on one end we have people that want to elevate CT to the level of Buddha; fine I just choose not to visit that shrine. Others that seem to get price confused with quality along with discount seekers, thrill mongers and the usual cast of suspects. If you didn’t like the meal, the service or any aspect, guess what? No amount of badgering, berating or belittling is going to change the O P I N I O N. Unfortunately we all know people that think all-you-can-eat is the way to go as well as the people that have other strong opinions on what makes for a great meal.

I thought they’re where several of the Three Brothers places in the Ocean County area. I can think of two near rout 9. 1 is off 9 in Lakewood and the other is on 9 almost in Toms River. Both tend to run hot and cold. Again this is almost 10 years ago. Red Lion Pub in Brick does a good pie as did Parkway on Burnt Tavern road. The Hub outside Ft. Monmouth was good too.

I cook the barley separately in stock. If I am short on stock I use a good soup base never bullion. It imparts flavor without throwing off the balance.
