  1. Lamb and haloumi koftas with beetroot tzatziki. Served with slow roasted tomatoes, pita bread and spinach leaves.
  2. A really simple soup with homemade chicken stock, risoni pasta, parsley and parmesan. Served with special toasties, olive sourdough, avocado, sliced chicken breast, bacon, tomatoes and melted cheese.
  3. A simple stir fry with chicken, fresh bamboo shoot, bok choy, shiitake mushrooms, carrot and noodles. The bamboo shoot. The noodle bowl.
  4. Strawberry cream and marshmallow cup cake. Because I can.
  5. It was a bit of a stuff up actually. I thought I bought pork mince and was going to make meat sauce for pasta. I fried an onion and garlic, added chilli paste, went to add the meat and went oh oh, this isn't pork. So, I added the lamb, 4 diced Roma tomatoes, a pinch of cumin, coriander and ginger and let it simmer down. Put the pasta away, got some flour tortillas out of the freezer, rolled the sauce up, covered with grated cheddar and browned under the grill. Saved !
  6. Spicy lamb enchiladas.
  7. Correct TftC, it's an avocado.
  8. Part of the haul from our local farmers market this morning. Not pictured, last of this seasons fresh bamboo shoot, tumeric and local garlic. We also scored a potted Vietnamese mint.
  9. Pork satays with peanut sauce. Served with rice, stir fried bok choy and pineapple salsa.
  10. The gardener got quite busy while I was away. He tells me these are broad beans. These tomatoes are coming along nicely, I asked him what variety, he replied red. . These are peas. One of two prolific birds eye chilli bushes. Fast running out of things to do with them. Our dwarf lemon has fruit. The reason for the cages are twofold. They will be used to stake the plants as they grow, and they deter our four legged friends who find the new shoots tasty and also like digging in the soil.
  11. Sumac dusted lamb cutlets with a caper sauce, spicy potato & pumpkin mash, plus sautéed garlic spinach. Love gnawing those bones !
  12. Chicken noodle soup two ways. The stock came from the freezer, the chicken was leftover from last nights roast. For the invalid (that would be me) with broken angel hair pasta, shredded chicken, parsley and grated parmesan. For the well one, with Mi Chay noodles, stir fried carrots, wombok, celery and bok choy, chicken, chilli vinegar, crushed nuts and spring onions.
  13. Home at last after 4.5 weeks in South East Asia, all I want is a roast chook. It's sprinkled with lemon juice and olive oil, then seasoned. I stuff the lemon halves and a handful of thyme into the cavity and roast for 2 hours on a bed of rosemary. Alongside are roasted potatoes, butternut pumpkin, whole garlic cloves and steamed peas. The gravy is made with pan juices and chicken stock. Comfort food !
  14. Dinner last night at Monsoon Restaurant in Yangon. We we started with Shan chips with a yoghurt dipping sauce. Sorry about the poor photo. Then Thai fish cakes, chicken with cashews, and eggplant with shrimp, plus rice. One night in transit, then I'm home to my kitchen ! I feel a roast chicken coming on....
  15. @liuzhou, you must have an asbestos mouth !
  16. Mushrooms sautéed in butter on toast I reckon. Correct me if I'm wrong please Captain ...
  17. I probably would prefer the potato flavour too. Didn't have my reading glasses on, Texan barbecue surprise !
  18. Snacking on the these while holed up in my hotel room, enforced by 46 C heat. I had a hard time trying to open the packet of chips, carry on only luggage, so no sharp objects. It's cool to ring room service for assistance isn't it ? Both made locally in Yangon, the Regal 7 is a cold filtration lager, the chips are Texan BBQ flavour !
  19. @ElainaA, how do you do the chickpeas please ? They look delicious, as does the main meal.
  20. Sorry, it's late and I just realised I left out what's in the middle. The soup was chicken meatballs with tofu and morning glory. The fish was steamed, the sauce garlic, lime, chilli and soy.
  21. Dinner a few nights ago at a no name restaurant somewhere in the mountains of northern Shan state, Myanmar. Clockwise from the top....fried chicken bits, whole river fish in garlic, lime chilli sauce, stir fried wombok, morning glory, pickled vegetables, tomato salad with dipping sauces.
  22. Ha ha, men and their stomachs. I have a FB page called "what's for dinner" because that's the question I get asked everyday, sometimes as early as 7.00 am.
  23. Cream of tomato soup. The manager of this hotel knows I've been sick, so comped me the fruit platter and the fresh OJ. Nice one. First time I've had enough bandwidth to upload photos, yee haa !
