  1. Very impressive pig there ! We've been known to choose holiday destinations based on their roast pig abilities !
  2. A ramen bowl with chicken, edamame, greens, tomatoes and our kitchen bench sprouts.
  3. @huiray, the steamed fish with hot oil is a great dish. My Italian mother in law took cooking classes with Charmaine Solomon (Sri Lankan born Australian author of 30 cook books) in the 1980's and learnt this technique. They are both now 86. She has a website (the celebrated cook, not my mother in law). www.charmainesolomon.com
  4. We have a light on the deck
  5. Chicken paprika, served with couscous and garlic zucchinis. By happy accident, this became one of my all time best chicken dishes. I browned skin on chicken thigh cutlets, made a sauce with sliced onion, garlic, diced tomatoes, paprika, Harissa, fennel seeds and stock, then simmered partly covered for about an hour. That's when I put the lid on and thought I turned the stove off, but realised another hour later it was still on low. Oops. Enriched with a spoon of sour cream, it was so tender and moist, with the meat falling off the bone.
  6. Aw, where's the photo ? Sounds delicious......
  7. It's part of a leg TftC, and we had that same "the other white meat" campaign (probably copied). I can almost make myself sick with crackling I should add that this was on special at $8 per kilo, a bargain here.
  8. Hot roast pork, apple sauce and gravy sammiches. Ah, the joy of leftovers.
  9. Roast pork with apple sauce and gravy. Served with roast potatoes, pumpkin, shallots and garlic, plus pickled red cabbage, and of course crispy crackling.
  10. Spaghetti carbonara plus a salad and crusty bread. I semi roasted the tomatoes to add intensity.
  11. Spicy Korean pork belly, served with stir fried broccolini and mushrooms, salad, kimchi and rice.
  12. Thanks, they look very interesting.
  13. The steak looks perfect @Kerry Beal. What's a BGE please ?
  14. A simple winter soup with veggies, speck and risoni pasta, served with grated parmesan. The real star was the toasties with grated cheddar, mozzarella, finely diced onion and garlic chives.
  15. Nothing like a lamb shank braised in Guinness to stave off the cold. Served with potato, cauliflower and horseradish mash, plus green beans with garlic.
  16. @ElsieD, could you get the man to cough up the recipe ? They look sooooo good !
  17. This is a de Longhi electric oven with gas cooktop now nine years old. There is no mains gas here, so it's plumbed into two LPG tanks at the side of the house. I would like the wok burner to be hotter. Other than that, it's a great cooktop. The long burner is good for gravies or a grill pan. The trivets make sliding pots around pretty easy. The oven has had its problems with temperature control. They seem to be fixed after a $250 visit from a tech a month or so ago. There is a largely useless range hood above it. Searing lamb equals smoke detector, if we had a noise detector it would go off too. Next time I would get the motor installed outside, and we've always suspected it vents into the roof cavity.
  18. Beige, but very tasty. Chicken, mushroom and thyme risotto, using dried porcini and fresh swiss brown. Served with salad and crusty bread.
  19. Geez, it all sounded so promising....until the end. I feel your bread pain, a tricky beast at times.
  20. Somewhere on eG people are talking about chicken and gravy sandwiches. Mmmmm. Toasted seedy sourdough buttered, topped with sliced chicken & prosciutto rolls and warmed sugo. Lousy photo, yummy lunch.
  21. Chicken wings kinda Vietnamese marinated with fish sauce, soy, garlic, onion and sugar then baked. Served with rice, garlic spinach and chopped kimchi.
  22. Ha ha, that's so funny TftC. I don't think we have earwigs here, guess it's rats or mice. He's caged both planters now. I asked what happens when the plants outgrow the mesh, apparently we'll worry about that then.
  23. I like the smaller red onions, we seem to only get giant ones here. Tuscan tuna and bean salad is screaming try me.
  24. What a way to commiserate/celebrate, I'm glad it's over. Could you elaborate on the fried pork wonton bit please ? I just happen to have sour cream, kimchi etc.
  25. Could you share the recipe please Norm ? They look delicious, and I have some wings in the fridge.....
