Cream of tomato soup. The manager of this hotel knows I've been sick, so comped me the fruit platter and the fresh OJ. Nice one. First time I've had enough bandwidth to upload photos, yee haa !

We took this photo of a spit roasted goat earlier today. Tonight on the way back to find it, in the dark stupid me walked into a 30 cm high metal sign and gashed my shin. No goat for me, instead back to our hotel for wound dressing.... Maybe tomorrow.

Thanks @liuzhou, I thought it was but when I asked our guide she said no, and didn't know the English name. Thanks also for the recipe, one to try when I get home

A stand out lunch in a beautiful setting. Clockwise from top right, pork Spring rolls wrapped in leaf grown at the lodge, mushroom and glass noodles spring rolls, tiny prawn fritters, chokoes and carrots (surprisingly good), banana flower salad, and in the centre crispy chicken. Top left is soup with morning glory. Below is the leaf, any ideas ?

This was dinner last night in Hue central Vietnam. We had a 3.45 am wake up call to get to the airport in Hanoi for an early flight, spent several hours wandering in Da Nang, then 2.5 hours on the train to Hue arriving at 5 pm. After such a long day we were both absolutely shagarillered, so ate at the Hotel restaurant. What a treat to find out this restaurant is rated number 1 on TripAdvisor out of 206. He had pork pho in the Hue style, I had a tuna salad, my first western meal in two weeks. Both these dishes cost about $3 and were superb. There was such depth of flavour in the soup, today I'm determined to stalk the chef, get in the kitchen, and discover his secrets.

@huiray, agree absolutely that soup at every meal is a part of many SE Asian countries food regime. In Myanmar it's common to share the spoon amongst friends too !

Dinner at a home stay. Roughly clockwise from the left - stir fried bean sprouts with pork, nem (spring rolls) with mushroom and pork, chicken with bamboo shoots, green beans, tofu in tomato chilli sauce, stir fried morning glory, white fish in interesting sauce, and banana flower salad. Served with steamed rice, soup with vegetables (both mandatory at most Vietnamese meals) and a beer !

Lunch in George Town, Penang. We're staying in a colonial era property in Little India, so of course Indian restaurants are plentiful. Here is a special biryani in claypot, plus Manchurian chicken. Fresh chapatis, eggplant pickle and cabbage salad, plus a few beers !
-
Im also using what's in the fridge. Nachos with spicy chicken and beans, plus guacamole and dollops of sour cream.

Thanks @KennethT and @djyee100. Curry paste is all I've used them for previously. Google reveals some desserts and drinks. I think these guys will go in the freezer for now.

Thanks @liuzhou. It was Lee Kum Kee, but there was probably only a tablespoon left in the jar (thought I'd thrown it out, but the empty jar was in the dishwasher). Next time, much more chilli bean paste !

Dinner last night was Ma Po tofu, served with rice and stir fried veggies. I clearly need to work on my chilli oil technique. I used 10 dried and 5 fresh birds eye chillies, and while it was damn hot, it doesn't have the distinctive red colour.

I really can't imagine what it's like to live with snow. Okay, I did a few snow bunny seasons in my early twenties, so I can relate, but I wasn't trying to grow anything These are the last of this summers tomatoes and a few chillies. Plus us I harvested these kaffir limes this morning. I'm not sure what I'll do with them, any ideas ?

An easy dinner last night. Minestrone soup from the freezer, sparked up with a dollop of pesto. Served with bacon, cheese and egg toasties.
