  1. A simple noodle soup with chicken and snow peas. The stock was chicken with a boost of miso and wakame. Some rehydrated shiitakes, a hard boiled egg, sliced spring onions and coriander to garnish.
  2. Spinach, potato and bocconcini pie. Served with roasted tomatoes, roast pumpkin and baby spinach salad, plus a few bits of crispy bacon.
  3. Spicy and sticky baked chicken wings. Served with sushi rice and stir fried snow peas.
  4. Inspired by @ShelbyI made my first ever skillet cornbread. It's not common food here in Oz, my local supermarket doesn't even stock corn meal. So, I adapted using a mix of plain flour, polenta and baking soda. Other ingredients were whole corn kernels, grated cheddar cheese, chopped coriander, buttermilk, a beaten egg and melted butter. I snuck in a few (well, four) finely chopped pickled hot chillies. It worked well, cooked on the stove for 10, then into the oven with the top element on for 10. I was foiled trying to replicate the ham and beans by Shelby. My deli lady at the supermarket brusquely told me that bacon and ham bones are winter food, we'll have them when it's colder...err, rightyo ! Instead, I made chilli con carne with chuck steak and red kidney beans plus lots of chilli.
  5. Last nights dinner was a simple linguine carbonara. Its a favourite with a certain bacon lover in this house... Served with a mixed salad and olive sourdough.
  6. It was a 1.5 kg corned silverside. Into the PC with one clove studded onion, 40 g brown sugar, 40 ml malt vinegar and two cups of water. Bring to low pressure and simmer for about an hour. Slow release and cool in the liquid.
  7. Corned beef cooked in the pressure cooker. Veggies simmered in the broth, plus mustard sauce and a few pickles.
  8. Looks great @ElsieD although I bet they call them prawns. I have half a dozen of the AWW cookbooks. Good basic and Australian centric recipes. Did you know that it used to be a weekly magazine, then got changed to monthly editions ? There was controversy at the time about changing the name to Women's Monthly ! Didn't happen....
  9. Stuffed mushrooms with a mixed salad. The mushies are stuffed with a sauté of onion, garlic and bacon, fresh breadcrumbs, garlic chives and bits of bocconcini.
  10. Homemade chicken pie with tomato sauce. I need to work on cutting off the excess pastry in a cleaner fashion......
  11. I'd like to try this, what kind of paper do you use ?

  19. Thanks for the link, an interesting read about cast iron pans (which incidentally is what attracted me to your cornbread). We have one that has been in the family for many years. I'm not sure if I've ever tried cornbread, it's not that common here in Oz. I am sure I'd prefer the non-sweet one, and some cheddar cheese wouldn't go astray. I'll report the result in due course !
  20. I'm inspired @Shelby. Looking for cornbread recipes now !
  21. Hainanese chicken rice with the usual accompaniments.
  22. Thanks @liuzhou, you're right, lamb is traditional, but he who must be considered is not fond of lamb. I adapt.
  23. Indian feast. Rogan Josh - beef in a spicy yoghurt sauce. Potato, cauliflower and peas veggie curry. Dal with cabbage, steamed basmati rice, lime pickles, hot mango pickle and papaya chutney, plus naan bread.
  24. Pan fried chicken breast, served with mashed potatoes, broccolini and garlic spinach. A sauce made with pan juices, chicken stock, white wine, lemon juice, thyme and butter gets poured over.
  25. Wow, that power outage and flooded kitchen sounds horrible. I hope you got a good rest after all that effort. I should say I'm a director of the garden, I don't actually get my hands dirty..... It's rare to get below 10 C here even in the middle of winter. Not sure about the cabbage growing, but worth a try if I can find the right seeds. Our autumn (fall) officially starts in a few days, although leaving them until May might work. Good idea @Thanks for the Crepes.
