  1. Of course, silly me, used to collect them in the local creek. Sorry about being unpc.....
  2. Oooh, what are they, they look kind of scampi-ish ? It's a shame we're so pc now that you can't chase the staff while holding a wriggly one, with someone else taking photos.
  3. Our first tomatoes, I think one will be thinly sliced onto some hot buttered toast...
  4. A rare fail. Hawaiian steak, with baked potato, roasted garlic & broccoli and fennel slaw. I marinated the steaks following a recipe given on the create my meal thread. The marinade was pineapple juice, soy, ginger, chopped onion, sugar and sesame oil. The steak was tender, but way too fruity for me.
  5. @Norm Matthews, that's my kind of meal, love being able to mix and match flavours at will. I see tacos in my future...
  6. Okay, first catch your cucumbers, ha ha. Peel 5 small cucumbers, cut in half lengthwise and scoop out seeds, then slice on the diagonal into 1.5 cm pieces. Place in a bowl and sprinkle with 1 Tbs white sugar & 1 tsp salt. Mix well and fridge for 30 minutes. Make a dressing with 2 tbs light soy, 2 cloves garlic finely chopped, 1tbs grated ginger and 1/2 tsp sesame oil. Hand squeeze the cukes, mix with dressing, sprinkle with pepper. They end up silky and crunchy.
  7. Mussels in spicy red sauce, served with toasted sourdough that was slathered with garlic butter.
  8. A Chinese banquet. Corn and egg soup, pork fillets stir fried with hoisin, green beans with ginger/garlic and sesame oil, braised cabbage (with a bit of trout perhaps) served with rice. Kylie Kwong has some easy and delicious recipes. I am naturally repellent to technology, so can't provide links, but Google should find her. ETA, she also has a fantastic cucumber salad recipe which I've made a lot. If you're interested I'll post the recipe.
  9. Double darn, we can't buy that stuff here. I've never seen gravy in a can, only powder to mix your own.
  10. That looks so good, especially the gravy. Could you share details please ?
  11. We started with a little antipasto. Then seafood chowder with a herby garlic loaf - no picture. Followed by strawberries with cream, also no picture.
  12. Great food and experience, thanks for sharing. OMG, all those chillis, pass me the yoghurt !
  13. Thanks, I put it on the phone for scale and natural lighting just worked, lucky. We're in the middle of winter here, it's the only time to try growing peas. Motto, never give up, the gardeners third attempt I think. He's not home yet.
  14. The start of the peanami...the first pod. There will be nowhere near as many to harvest as the beauteous bounty enjoyed by @Tere. But, these are our first ever peas, not easy in a subtropical climate. I now have to try to not eat the last three peas until the gardener gets home in a couple of hours.
  15. Thanks for the ride, it all looks delicious, and you took delightful photos
  16. Inspired by @ElsieDs Japanese curry, I pulled out my packet of S & B Golden curry and made this. It is unusual in that you first cook meat and vegetables in water, then add the curry paste for the last 10 minutes or so. The paste was labelled medium hot, so I added some of my home grown chilli powder to the sizzling onion. Here it is with chicken, potatoes, carrots and baby spinach. We liked it, and I will buy more of this paste.
  17. Cabbage rolls using the frozen pork in a tomato/pepper sauce. Paella with the chicken and shrimp, tomatoes and peppers.
  18. Thanks @ElsieD. Mine is the same, medium hot, I figured I'd need to add more heat. I like the grated apple idea too.
  19. What if one is not a serious culinarian ? Some of just like to eat and have fun.
  20. @huiray, that's the one, although mine comes in a 100g packet.
  21. Did you use S & B Golden Curry mix ? I have one in the cupboard which might see the light today.
  22. Inspired by many on this thread, I made zucchini, feta and dill fritters. Served with avocado, yoghurt and mint dipping sauce and a Greek style salad.
  23. I'd like to know what the "smothering" consists of, anyone ? Looks delicious.
  24. This is oxtail braised in Guinness with lots of garlic, bay and thyme. Served with herby cheese damper.
